That’s probably what it is. Very similar to Sam Houston 14. The secondary prices posted in here for it are a huge reach.
Del Mesa appears to have the YNWA Widow Jane 10 Yr #Liverpool https://www.delmesaliquor.com/products/copy-of-widow-jane-10-year-you-ll-never-walk-alone
There was a place in Florida selling them. I posted it in the LFC thread and I think we bought them out.
For any Tampa people I pitstopped in at Luekens and picked up a barrel pick of Woodinville, which is a Washington state, distilled, barreled and bottled product. Pleasantly surprised, I’d say it’s solidly above average. 122 proof, the nose is great, loads of caramelly/ brown sugar, and dark fruits. Even my wife said it smelled nice from where she was sitting, and she does not enjoy bourbon at all. Honestly one of the best noses on a bourbon I can remember for a non “high end” bottle. My initial expectation after the nose was that it would be a very smooth pour. It was certainly not that. It had some heat on the palate for sure. I’d guess the mashbill is corn heavy, but the sweet notes from the nose carried over a little, but the primary flavor profile I was left with was a punch of green apples. After sipping for a little bit my initial guess is it’s on the younger end, I’d guess less than 6 years if I had to wager. I’m thinking I’ll enjoy this more once it’s had an opportunity to open up a little bit, but a very solidly above average pour. It’s something I’ll be interested to go back to because I don’t have anything with the flavor profile in my cabinet currently and that is exciting to me. The finish isn’t anything to write home about, it will linger for a few minutes but it’s not something you’ll still have on your palate for a significant period of time. Assuming this is a younger barrel like my initial guess, I’d be very interested to try their products again in the future. Overall a very worthwhile pour, and a distillery I’ll keep an eye on as their products continue to age.
I was incredibly worried about a completely originally crafted bourbon, especially from a region not known for bourbon. Very pleasantly surprised. It’s hot as fuck though. Might put a drop or two of water in my next glass to see if it opens up a little bit.
Is yours barrel proof or the 90 proof? I’m curious if the 90 proof has as much heat on it. My bottle doesn’t drink sweet at all got me, but the nose makes you think it’s pancake syrup and dark berries.
The 90 proof is not hot, pretty smooth. I loved the barrel proof store pick I had. It did have some heat at around 122 proof, but a drop or two of water tamed it.
Mine is a 124 proof store pick. I also have a bottle of the 90 proof, its pretty ordinary tbh. The 124 also feels really heavy in the mouth
Local Whiskey group in KC got a barrel of Woodinville. Cracked mine open earlier this week. Agree it drinks very hot. I likened mine to a chai tea with a punch - mine was all baking spices and peppery, which surprised me with their high corn mashbill. I added some water to it the next day I had another pour and it brought forward the apple orchard you mentioned and really tempered the heat. Looking forward to it opening up and will definitely be interested in what they can churn out the next few years
My local place put this out last night at 10:00 pm Christmas in July Bourbon Release at Covington Plaza Santa stopped by and said it was time to spread some holiday cheer. So we're sharing some of our allocated Bourbons with YOU! Thursday, Noon- 3PM | No Calls No Holds | Limit Two Bottles Please be respectful of the two bottle limit so we can share the cheer with as many people as Couldn’t go but my wife did, stood in line for an hour and a half and walked out with michters barrel proof rye and a stagg jr im so proud of her
That's the local place I usually stop at. The one in downtown Dunedin usually has the best stuff. Got a Willett Rye from there the other day that I hadn't seen before so snagged that up. Usually they're just a tad overpriced on the hard to get stuff but if it's one I know I won't see for awhile, like a Blantons SP, I'll just grab it. My 1792 Full Proof SP from there is one of my favorites. Saw the Woodinville there the other day actually but didn't know too much about it. Might check it out if it's still there next time I stop by.
I just grabbed a delicious Stellum store pick and a Shenks 2018 don’t ask me how. I missed a RR13 by an hour. Sad
what kind of info was provided on the stellum pick? Assuming it was a true single barrel and not a blend.
I NEED TO BE TAGGED WHEN THERE ARE BENASH PICKS AVAILABLE SO I CAN SEND MY MOTHER TO GET THEM FOR ME.
Gordon's has a store pick for the stellum bourbon and rye - 100 $ for both bottles. Tempted to pick them up.
Also, can someone explain the store pick Stellum situation to me? I thought this was a large batch blending test project.
Their new store is quite ridiculous and open until 11:30 pm. Might just have to head there after putting the kid to bed.
