Pretty sure that Tommy Caldwell and his (edit: ex) gal on the Dawn Wall (or El Cap). His documentary of the same name came out at around the same time as Alex Honnold’s Free Solo and I think Tommy’s is far more compelling a story.
Yeah I came away from the Honnald film not really liking him at all. Much more moved by the Dawn Wall
Perspective is funny. My grandfather used to do all kinds of crazy (stupid) shit with his planes. Lived in rural Ky and had a grass strip and hangar by his house. Got his first plane in the late 40's. His favorite thing to do was take people for rides, many times their first, stall the engine and act like there was a problem. He said some people would freak out so bad they would try to open the door to get out. He would also stall the engine miles from the city airport or his strip to see if he could glide it in to land. Just to test himself. He won many trick landing and flying competitions. They would take the doors off the plane and fly over the lake to shoot ducks. He would fly over peoples houses and some would shoot at him. He would figure out what type of gun they had and provoke them knowing the range he had to keep. All kinds of crazy shit that wouldn't happen today. Cool to think of him giving many people their first, and many times, only airplane ride. He flew most days for years and was incredibly generous with people who wanted to go up. Easily hundreds of people he was their only plane ride.
God damn, love going on my very first plane ride and having the pilot fuck with me. Hope he didn't mind cleaning the actual human shit up afterwards.
how fucked up is Tennessee that the place the civil rights leader got assassinated is the non-racist part
You guys are good at holding the camera straight. I always start off my panorama right then end up way off base
