I don’t know about that. Didn’t give up that many good chances and controlled the second half pretty handily.
too many easy giveaways for me, as opposed to Robinson. did make some huge tackles though and was the 3rd best player for me (behind Robinson and Turner).
I don’t think Turner made more than 1 good save to be MOTM. That says a lot about Robinson and the defense though.
loved Turner's positioning and the fact that he didn't do anything stupid with the ball on an awful surface. agree though, defense was very good overall and excellent at recovering from stupid midfield giveaways.
Yeah, Acosta was brilliant in breaking up plays but passing lacked a bit. Robinson’s 1v1 defending is elite CL level. If he can improve his line breaking passing more, very high ceiling.
Also, I’d like someone smarter than me to rewatch and confirm, but I really felt like the Acosta-Busio rotation was excellent.
Normally am not a huge fan of twellman on the mic but that’s an awesome call. Got so excited his voice broke
Williamson would’ve been better next to Acosta, but I have zero issues with GGG throwing Busio in there for 90’ for experience.
I think I’m forgiven midfield sloppiness on ball because of the shit turf more than others in this thread. There’s several passes from all that looked like the right ideas that the turf ate up. But hopefully playing on a non-shit turf next week we see the passing to go along with making space for each other.
Lletget has struggled in the GC because he’s supposed to be driving the attack, but he’s so much better as a complimentary piece. Bummed that Luca de la Torre turned down the call up. I’d start Roldan over Lletget against Qatar because he’ll go and find the game more.
Yeah, looking at most of the lineups in this cup the obvious issue staring everyone in the face is that we don't really have anyone anywhere on the field that can create offensively. Like 90% of our chances have been off set pieces or crosses into the box. Hoppe can do a little of that but it's not really his bag. Williamson is needed from here on out imo.
I hope no one ever lets Gary forget that he called Mckennie "Fucking terrible" the year before he became a regular player for Juve.
They got invited since they’re the next WC host- it’s happened with some South American teams before as well. But mostly
if only ggg brought some other wingers on not named Jonathan Lewis so we could actually see Hoppe at cf... even out of position he's looking like the best player on the squad though, you can tell he's processing things at a much faster speed than basically everyone else
And clearly told the kid to dial up the physicality ten-fold. Rather see him getting shoved to the ground in a duel than not making the challenge.
I came into the Gold Cup generally being fine with a semifinal game and not expecting much more but I’ll be damned if I’ll accept a loss to fucking Qatar on our own soil.
Really wish we had a roster capable of allowing Hoppe to get a look at CF. He and Robinson have been the standout players on the whole team with him playing out of position.
Am I wrong or do some people think he doesn’t wind up at ST. I feel like that’s a thing but I can’t remember where I was reading it
