But seriously, after he came back from being out 2 weeks with that wrist injury, he struggled for about a week and then since 7/2 he's hitting .329/.386/.671 Still striking out a lot but fuck it, similar to the numbers Riley put up before being called up and he's figured it out.
Also Contreras hasn't gone hitless in a game he's started at AAA and should definitely replace Smith ASAP, he's hitting .377/.441/.868 with a 234 wRC+ since going down.
hopefully we just keep panda all year and once we're officially out, we start him in centerfield every day. give me some entertainment at least

I don’t know why we wouldn’t bring him up until TDA is heathy. Then again, I wouldn’t have sent him down to begin with considering our alternatives. We’re so short-handed playing the kids serves both competitive and development purposes. You can’t convince me Kevan Smith is better than Contreras, Pablo Sandoval is better than Goat (or even Demeritte), or that Abe Almonte is better than Waters.
It's such a "fuck you" move by the organization. Everyone knows we don't have the horses to make a run in the playoffs. But they know they can do just enough to keep playing decent baseball, stay in contention, and keep the fanbase interested and paying money the rest of the season. Hey "we tried. We did everything we could to add pieces at the deadline." GTFO
It really is terrible GM’ing to buy this year. We should be at least willing to listen on everyone organizationally except Ron, Oz, Riley, Max, and Ian. We should be actively shopping Morton, Smyly, Smith, Arcia, Heredia, and Swanson.
Disagree. It would be terrible to spend any actual prospect capital on rentals but there's no reason we shouldn't buy players under control if we can get them.
If you can get someone undercontrol for the next few years, sure. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to shop anyone with a pulse that isn't under contract next year.
Agree with this. Can’t go crazy for a rental but if you can get a guy with control this season and next then go imo

One of the most insane tangents in this thread is the fervor to get rid of Dansby. I won’t sit here and tell you he’s some stud SS, but I’m genuinely fascinated what you think the org would do to fill the SS position if they cut him loose. Short of acquiring a legitimate dude at SS, he’s the guy.
He might bet the 2nd highest paid position player on the team next year. People are balking at the price more than anything..especially knowing how this org works
That’s kind of my point. Unless you’re getting a top 5-ish player at the position, you ain’t touching him.
Dansby is a sub-.300 OBP guy this year, has a career OPS+ 13% below league average, and his defense is so up and down he grades out at 10 DRS for his career in 600 games. What exactly has he done to deserve the type of money he’ll command in arbitration that we can’t just find something similar off the scrap heap
The fact that this team has to address Freddie’s extension, two OF spots, a DH spot, catcher, multiple SPs, and the bullpen this off-season, but sure, let’s throw SS in there, too.
Dansby is a below average hitter, and has been for his entire career except for his call up season and the covid shortened season. He’s coming up on his last year of arbitration where he’ll make at least $8M-$10M, and then his market will be no less than $10M/year and upwards of $15M/year in FA. We 100% do not need to plan on resigning him after next year and pay him twice what we pay Oz. We also shouldn’t tender him a contract for his last year of arbitration. Therefore, trade him. Then go get Corey Seager in the offseason. Hell we can sign him and keep Fred if we trade Smith and bump payroll.
Except, like, he doesn’t. He’s a guy that should be hitting 7th or 8th in a healthy lineup, but due to injuries and Ozuna (and a bad manager), he’s had to hit in spots in the order that he shouldn’t be hitting in all season.
I don’t necessarily disagree with your plan. My whole argument is you don’t move on from him unless you can land a legitimate player in that position.
