I paused it to use the mainboard as a way of telling me if I should watch them or not, because I’m a superstitious bitch
Sorry I started looking and still cannot fathom why finding times, channels and scores is like a gigantic puzzle when it comes to the olympics. End rant. that said what time are they on?
Would love to know how this squares with the Amicus Brief filed by the USMNT in which they argue such things as: U.S. Soccer “has persistently treated the women as second class throughout the 35-year history of the Women’s National Team." “The women deserved better from the Federation — and a lot more money," The men’s team argued that, contrary to the judge’s ruling, the women had been “pressured” to accept “an unfair and unequal" collective bargaining agreement. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/07/30/usmnt-supports-uswnt-equal-pay/
Yeah If that’s the case then that should brought to the forefront and be addressed and fixed. But that should also be the narrative. From what I’ve read and seen and it might mainly be Rapinoe, is it’s just about money. IMO they should be framing it as systemic prejudice, money being a part of it.
I woke up puking at like 4:15 or so. Spent the next 100 minutes watching that crap, puking and drifting in and out of sleep. Good times
I know very little about the W player pool. are they still loaded with young players coming through the ranks or are we looking at the beginning of the end as the rest of the world starts to take this more seriously?
Yep. Old players like Sauerbrunn, O'Hara, Heath, Lloyd, Press, Morgan and Rapinoe need to stop being called in. You all had great careers. Now move on and let the next generation have their turn.
Tons of women in this group (non Americans) of ladies played in NCAA. Until their reliance on the NCAA developing players goes away we should be able to compete. Once academies start popping up, we’re done, imo.
And I think that’s been an issue many times on the USWNT because of their CBA with the USSF. Salaries are structured based on caps because there used to be so many matches a year before the club game started getting investment. Thus resulting in fewer international matches. I know there’s times where vets have threatened to not accept call ups if certain other vets don’t get called into the team.
We're never going to be "done" as a woman's power. Unlike men soccer is by far the number 1 sport women play in this country and we 166 million of them. We might not win as often as we have recently, but we'll always be a top 5/10 team.
We had this same conversation at the end of Wambach's era. The team reloaded. This is likely correct. Women's soccer will always be a semi-final-or-better side. They could always be beaten earlier in any given match but it's unlikely they drop below this top 4 space for a long ass time. Girls/womens soccer remains to be huge here almost in the same way you didn't see women's tennis drop off.
Plus, coaching is getting much better in this country. Still a long way to go but girls now are playing for better coaching at the youth level than the older players on this team received.
I know this will likely receive some backlash, but I think the women’s team needs to find a new striker ASAP unless they change stylistically. Morgan is a one trick pony
I have been eh on her for a while, and it always seemed whenever I brought up my skepticism it was met with a lot of resistance. She’s a poacher and nothing more. And that’s fine, but not what the team needs anymore.
She wouldn't necessarily create a lot 1v1 but when given opportunities, in her prime, she was excellent at finishing most of them. Which after watching that Gold Cup Final on both sides...a skill that can't be undervalued. But she's past her prime now and not as reliable and yeah
Right, but I’d argue their the last few tournaments the teams style hasn’t been beneficial to her as a player, and IMO, holds everyone back. She is awful with the ball at her foot unless it’s to shoot on goal
It’s was probably the Best Damn Soccer Show but some podcast mentioned an interview with Vlatko where he said he wanted to integrate more young players but with Covid restrictions and lack of friendlies he didn’t feel like he was able to. Sub-Zero nailed it though, every decade or so we ask if the worlds catching up. This roster will turn over and we’ll be fine.
ehh I think it’s become a bit different. big clubs in Europe have increased their investments in women’s football exponentially over the past few years. it’s a whole new ballgame.
As far as the women’s leagues go, what’s the talent difference between going to Europe and staying in the US?
For the most part I’d say NWSL is a good pool a player spread out. In Europe, once you’re out of the Champions League teams, the pool isn’t that talented. England/Germany probably have the best leagues outside of us. France has two great teams and Barca is the strongest team in Europe (possibly the world) ATM
No where near educated enough to give a definite answer. It seems like top to bottom NWSL is the strongest. But I don’t think the Courage/Thorns/Dash/Pride would fare well vs those elite Euro teams.
I would agree with that. That’s what I was trying to see if it didn’t come out clearly. The champions league teams are better than the NWSL teams. Although, the courage of two years ago would have given any team run for it’s money.
That Barca team last season was just absurd Lyon of course is Lyon but those Barca numbers last season were just mind boggling
