Their only store in North America is 3 blocks from my office so I strolled in the other day. I like their watches but after a closer look I don’t think I like them enough to pay for one.
Fucking asshole & dumb, local IWC AD… holding their ground at 10% off the Big Pilot 43. Now I have to actually make some calls.
I loved the fit of that Heritage Spring Drive. It was a close second for me. I also really liked the Skyflake in person. Much more than I thought I would.
The Blackfish I really haven't been seeking out, or shopping for anything of note. Lucked out getting the Batman in record time & put my name on list for a Daytona a few months back. I'm only looking again now, because the guy that offered up 2007 E2 Polar flaked. My wife sanctioned that purchase & coupled with me having a record month, I'm back on the hunt.
Made 2 calls to ADs, within about 15 minutes received 15% off retail + avoided 7.5% local sales tax... Saved $1,930 Only downside, is that I'll have to wait a week or so, before I smugly walk back into the Local AD wearing the timepiece they could have sold me.
Alright, I need feedback. Got an email from Omega & the new Seamaster 300 co-axial is available to me... It's a coin flip for me. Which do I go with? Spoiler will be @ MSRP, direct from Omega, but $1k less. Or the IWC Big Pilot 43 Spoiler
I like the Omega more but it's similar to the Tudor you have, at least to me. You don't have a blue dial watch so I'd go with that one. I know nothing about the details of either, just going off looks.
Similarity to the Tudor is a negative, as both are heritage/homage watches... Think I'm leaning IWC. Called my Omega AD & he have a list 7-8 deep waiting for the updated 300... ugh
as an owner of that 300m, I can confirm it is incredible and by far my favorite watch. Far superior IMO
I admittedly don't care much for IWC in general, but I don't think that this one is even close. Get the Omega.
How does this conversation go? You just call saying that you're shopping around for a particular watch and ask what they would be willing to do on price?
Went on IWC website & started calling ADs listed. Let them know you are serious & aren't just someone that's getting quotes/wasting their time: I've been calling regional ADs, looking for this model #, do you have it? I live out of state, are you able to sell it to me without state sales tax (some states still can & others can't) I'm prepared to give you my CC info over the phone... what deal can you offer me? Really just a direct conversation, letting them know I'm looking for a fair deal. Some ADs will play ball & others won't.
I dont like whatever the IWC style watch is (Flieger or something to that effect?) It’s a definite Omega purchase, blue or black whichever your collection is missing.
I’ll play Devils Advocate. I much prefer the styling of the IWC. Edit: I agree it would look a bunch nicer on a different strap, but that’s easily fixable.
Again, I don't really care for IWC watches in general, but I like this one less than any of the previous big pilot's watches they've done.
I don’t disagree, as I might regret not getting the OG Big Pilot, despite it being massive on my wrist (that’s kind of the point)
Also, these aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. I’ll very likely own both, at a future date. I’ve reached out to 3 other Omega ADs & none of them have access to the new 300… they’ve all stated that there is a long waitlist.
Had the Omega carted & CC info entered, but slept on it. The Omega is great, and while an "upgrade," it's a bit too similar to my BB58. Having 2 homage divers seems like overkill. It's also just been released & I'd have to pay retail... once they hit the boutiques, they will be available to the masses within a few months. If I still like it, I can pick it up at a discount in a year or 2. Also, I don't have anything in my collection similar to the IWC. Going back to AD & go try on the OG Big Pilot again, to compare with the 43. Not dropping $13k on the OG today, but will wait/save, if that's what scratches my itch
Congrats & welcome to the club. It is the watch I wear the most (apart from my CasiOak) & by a large margin
Have to report a Watch Thread violation! I'm not going to identify the perp, but someone in here just reached out & referred to a bezel as a "Twisty-Thing"
Quite the welcoming environment we are cultivating here. In solidarity, I will be referring to the crown as the "Windy-Thing."
