I’m not arguing it’s ideal, but this isnt unique to coastal areas is my point. This happens all over the country. Rivers in middle America flood like crazy too and they rebuild back constantly as well. What’s the cut off, end point etc. Majority of people who have to rebuild after disaster lose money. Sometimes folks come out ahead, but that’s not the norm
I'm with you on the spoil islands thing, but what’s your cutoff? There’s plenty of places that get whacked by nature routinely
Is dauphine island actually wealthy? Sure a few nice beach house areas, but it’s not some Uber elite place. What about those folks that work in support industry for those “rich people with views”? Do they not deserve roads and bridges to be rebuilt so they can continue to live their lives in their not so wealthy beach homes? My point is for established areas, it’s not so easy to just to say don’t rebuild .
We can have a whole discussion once the storm is done. We are not even to the halfway point at the moment.
I don’t see anything else on it. Reporter says he saw it on sherriff deputy blog. Doesn’t seem accurate. Don’t see anything else on it
bad news for a million reasons, but especially the pumps: https://www.nola.com/news/politics/article_e25801f4-0923-11ec-b243-4bfa9c9b8f4a.html
I’ll be up all night in case of tornado. Flooding won’t be an issue, winds are tropical storm, but they are swirling. We under tornado watch until 6:00am.
Saw this on Facebook. Makes sense with people posting shit and tweets coming from the Laplace area. WDSU New Orleans a pretty good follow if you looking for more local area stuff compared to national news REPORTS ARE.... I'M TRYING MY BEST TO VERIFY! ****BREAKING: COMPLETE LEVEE FAILURE IN JEFFERSON PARISH AND DES ALLEMANDS. CATASTROPHIC FLOODING IN LA PLACE****
According to police scanners Jefferson Parrish levee is holding actually, but it’s overflow. Seems folks are taking on lots of water though. Some people are in attics and asking to be rescued, etc
seems a ton of misinformation happening because people think water going over the levee = levee broke
How do we even know there's an actual hurricane, seems like LAMESTREAM MEDIA propaganda. It's not affecting me in Florida therefore it doesn't exist. Spoiler please stay safe everyone Ida is really scary
This is really bad as stated but Waterford Nuclear has probably declared a Notice of Unusual Event for a Loss of Offsite Power which puts them on them emergency diesel generators to generate power to the site. Shift manager has discretion to call in the emergency response team, but I imagine they were already supplementary staffed. If anything else happens, the team gets activated.
High tide is still two hours away for lake pontchartrain. Rain, storm wind still pushing gulf water in and high tide may keep waters rising for awhile.
