yeah i was going to go there too. Lot of forced time with relatives you don't actually like. In-law time typically sucks. I love my Mom but I don't always get psyched about her visiting and staying with us for extended periods of time. Then I have the stress of picking and choosing which families I spend the actual holidays with. man fuck all that. Give me the summer holidays when you can actually choose you spend them with. And you're not just sitting around someone's living room getting shitfaced watching football with people you know you won't see for another year.
First Thursday and Friday of the NCAA tournament and it isn’t even close 2 full days of incredible basketball games while the weather is finally warming up and winter is over. Doesn’t get better
Baseball opening day for me. It used to be NYD but it is a shell of what it once was (which I’m sure has been mentioned here already).
We do that for staff. They can take off any day during their birthday month as their "birthday" holiday.
i dont even like baseball but living near the field and it marking the real start of decent weather here its great
Hell nah That's screwing yourself out of a day where people lie about how much they like you and give you free cake
I’ve never been a make a big deal out of my birthday person. Especially once you get past 30 it’s just another day.
It's hard not to pick Christmas and Thanksgiving, since those are country-wide holidays where the world kind of shuts down. Thursday/Friday March Madness always feels like the debut of spring to me. Spring forward is nice but you also lose an hour of sleep. More than worth the tradeoff but takes it out of contention. I went Independence day for #4. Just a personal thing. Master's Sunday is really nice and it feels like the REAL beginning of spring, but it's hard to put it in the top 4 since so few people "celebrate" outside of the southeast. When I lived in Atlanta Master's weekend was basically a holiday but outside of Atlanta it doesn't register for most people. Never really got the Labor Day/Memorial Day hype. It's nice but nothing to write home about.
Eh I’ve never really cared about Thanksgiving. Halloween was nice as a kid. Christmas is the only holiday I really give a shit about, and half of that reason is NBA is in all day long
In order: 4th of July Labor Day/CFB Day Christmas Thanksgiving Christmas and Thanksgiving are dependent on not getting dragged into family shit that ruins everything though.
Also, it fell short of my top 4, but shout out to Kentucky Derby Saturday. Similar vibe as Master's Sunday, but without the Sunday.
Feel like Christmas & Thanksgiving are highly subjective and dependent on your family. Thanksgiving is always better for me because it's very laid back, whereas Christmas has always been "you better be here". And in Alabama I have better memories of Thanksgiving because the weather usually isn't unbearable yet. Personally I'd go: Labor Day Saturday/CFB > Memorial Day Friday > Thanksgiving > March Madness Owsley meant to delete the quote. Was just using it because I went similar.
Write in vote for today: 1) Kentucky Derby 2) NFL draft 3) ND spring game 4) I found beef plate ribs available for purchase at Costco 5) it appears as though it will be sunny
First day of NCAA tournament Memorial Day Friday Fourth of July Write-in: High Five Friday Personally would say Memorial Day Saturday/Sunday > Friday. I've become a scrooge at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don't even care about them anymore. Championship Sunday just missed the cut.
Still feel confident in my claim after this past Masters Sunday. Ho hum. Fourth of July Christmas Black Friday (if you get it off) The second day of any 3 day holiday weekend
I used to prefer winter to summer, even though I hate the temperature extremes both provide and the humidity in the south is fucking awful, but once I started working in college athletics and having to work out in the weather in these cold as fuck February and March lacrosse games, I instantly preferred summer. But that's like saying which do you prefer to eat more, shit or vomit. I'm 100% sure I'd very much hate the flavor of both, just like I very much hate peak winter and peak summer weather, both just completely unbearable to be in. Either dress in multiple layers to prevent your nuts freezing off, or sweat your ass off just casually walking from the parking lot to the store.
Voted Christmas, Thanksgiving, Start of CFB, and start of NCAA, but also always have loved the first day of school.
