Yes. It is great. We always camp around Nordhouse Lake because it is more secluded and then hike to Lake Michigan during the day to hang out at the beach, but when we were there in early July Nordhouse Lake was gone. Like completely dry. I've never camped on Lake Michigan there, but most people do. I've heard that the closer you are to the parking lot, the more it feels like a music festival instead of back country camping. If I were going to camp on the lake, I'd hike to the north of the main area and try to secure a more remote site closer to the recreational area. To do that, you'll want to enter at the trailhead along the road (it is marked) and NOT from the parking lot trail. From the trailhead hike north until you hit Nordhouse Lake (it will be dry, but it's an obvious feature). Hike along the west side until you see the obvious trail up into the dune. Hike along the Algoma Ridge on (I think) the Lake Michigan Trail. You'll pass a few camp sites up in the dunes - don't use those. Keep going until you exit the dunes down to the lake. Find a camp site you like that isn't occupied tucked at the bottom of the dune and have fun. Please pack out your trash and bury your waste.
Thank you! I'll provide some pictures when we come back. I'm excited to be up here and exploring some new spots, still need to get into the UP but figured we need more than 1 night for that.
Looks like today will be the last of the oppressive heat, though you can never count out September being a cunt.
We have power, but a lot of the area doesn't so the first day of school is postponed, and everybody's internet is down.
Heading to first game since moving to Ann Arbor this weekend. Very excited but question about tailgating. We (5 of us) are debating doing a reserve spot at Pioneer, parking the car there and setting up tent and then walking home (live about 15 minute walk from the stadium) to watch OSU v Oregon and hang out. Then we'd walk back down closer to game time and have a spot there to hang out and drink. Other option is to just walk down later in the afternoon, not have our own spot, but bring beer and just hang out in the area. Any thoughts on that? Not sure what the best option would be if we don't want to spend 7 hours tailgating but do want to be down there for a bit before the game.
That sounds like a pretty good plan. I like the golf course better than Pioneer, but that's not crucial. You can also kill some time at home afterward and wait out the clusterfuck getting your car out of there. If you're not doing food amd don't care about a place to sit, the wandering option is pretty good too. You can cover Pioneer, the golf course and some of the campus area. Backpack of beers and a sandwich from Maize & Blue Deli is a delight.
A guy I work with has four nephews that are between 4 - 8. His brother is a teacher (he’s vaccinated). The 6 year old just tested positive for covid, and two of his brothers are symptomatic, waiting on results to come back. They started school last week, and it’s just a total shit show. Good luck to all of you with kids.
My buddy was told they are supposed to be masking. Not sure what district, but it’s somewhere in Oakland County.
Even if kids mask in school, seems like it’ll be hard to keep kids masking outside of school when they are hanging out together.
Apparently DTE was doing some fixing and just knocked the power out at my house and the surrounding area, with no restoration time. Thankfully it's only 86 fucking degrees out, so we can go without AC for at least 12-15 minutes.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for 42 counties, so half of them. And a thunderstorm bringing hail is apparently going to throw hail all over Oakland County in the next hour.
2.5 - 4 inches of rain in the forecast through Thursday morning. Thankfully we have awesome infrastructure here so we shouldn’t have any flooding.
Apparently a Chick-Fil-A is coming to Southfield. Not sure where but somewhere on Telegraph. Gonna be a shit show when it opens.
They're trying to put one at Rochester/Auburn as well...literally the worst possible place for it in the area (for traffic purposes)
The legendary Miller’s Bar in Dearborn is up for sale as the owners prepare for retirement. Miller’s has been a mainstay along Michigan Avenue in Dearborn since 1941. The bar is routinely named among the best burger spots in Metro Detroit, but it’s the national recognition that has made the name so iconic. Last year, Miller’s ranked in the top 31 U.S. Burger Joints. In 2012, “Food & Wine Magazine” named Miller’s among the top 25 burgers in the U.S. The owners, two brothers, want the next owner to continue the bar’s tradition. The sale price is undisclosed.
!!!!! Dispo in Bay City continues to have unreal medical prices on everything, but especially edibles 6 | $20 Elation, Fwaygo & Chill Medicated 100mg Gummies like how is that even possible?
made a few trips up to Traverse City over the past few weeks and spent time in Northport, Frankfort and Ludington and went back to Pyramid Point a couple times. Really nice fall colors up there might try to hit up the Pictured Rocks area this Sunday if there's no rain in the forecast
I would imagine you could still see some really nice colors. There was a fair amount of green still left a couple weeks ago
