Anecdotal, but Ive seen this. Had a friend/acquaintance who was annoying to be around because he liked to be edgy and get a rise out of people. He was 'warm to trump' because Trump was edgy and got a rise out of people. This guy couldnt GAF about anything else. FFW 5 years and now he finds abortion abhorrent, bought a gun, and refuses to get vaccinated

As someone who was here until 2013ish then absent until last year, I’m curious- how much of the board left? Would also be cool to hear how TMB started. I had heard about it from a guy who had an extra for an RU game and was kind enough to give it to me. I see he hasn’t posted in awhile, but he said it started with a couple of guys who were sick of the staff on other college team boards censoring posts. Is that even close to accurate? I do get the sense that most posters here follow college football, so it gave what he said some credibility.
I Mean the guys who left could be best categorized as Actual White Supremacists. No that's not a joke or exaggeration either.
I'm not an OG here but I always assumed it was to fill a void of a normal person's college football message board but without the racist olds and people obsessed with academic smack talk that basically makes up the rivals experience
TMB started as a breakaway from the Rivals.com national football recruiting board. The mods on that board would occasionally get super strict with off topic posts and go on sprees deleting and locking threads, hence the "nothing is off topic" (former?) motto here. That, plus the large number of out of touch and/or proudly racist people on the Rivals board (whose behavior wasn't censored to the extent off topic posts were), turned a significant number of younger, more normal users against the mods/board. Not that this board didn't have its own tolerance issues for many years, but that's for another day. I wasn't around for the actual breakaway so someone can fill in those details if they want, but you are both on the right track for the most part.
Edgelord humor/behavior ruled the day early on. Then people started getting jobs and decided some limits on the shit that was getting pulled were needed. (People were getting calls at their places of work and getting their real lives fucked with. And while that is kind of funny when you’re young - it sucks when you actually have something to lose). Then people started having families and realized caring about other people didn’t make you a pussy. At that point the racists and posters incapable of understanding empathy were purged and the board’s been a better place for it.
Yeah I went back and added an edit because I probably made early TMB sound much more enlightened and noble than it actually was.
