My biggest frustration is the team continues to find new ways to lose instead of new ways to win. One week it’s the o-line, the next week it’s field goal kicking, the next week it’s punting. If the team had a consistent weakness, but played solid in the other aspects, I think that would be easier for me to rationalize what’s wrong with the team.
I think one of the massive issues is the staff cuts corners when it comes to coaching fundamentals or completely cuts corners with coaching special teams in general so they can teach whatever dumbass scheme they're going for on whichever given week. It opens up the team to penalties and dumb mistakes and it's honestly the most consistent thing this coaching staff does
Im sure it’s due to a combination of inexperience and arrogance, as well as the fact UCF was just so much more talented these little mistakes didn’t matter. I’m sure Frost assumed his offense was good enough to overcome a couple penalties or a non-offensive TD, and it was that second year at UCF. Now it’s turned into a scramble on figuring it out and I’m sure they’re grasping at straws which isn’t working obviously. I don’t doubt Frost when he says they work on this stuff in practice and I’m sure they aren’t THIS in practice bad either, but at this point in the process he has to say “OK whether it works Mon-Fri or not, we have to try something different”.
I knew he was with Tucker at Colorado but I did not realize Ross Els went with him to MSU and is coaching their special teams. LOL
This is spot on for the offense, but ironically the defense has gotten progressively more fundamentally sound each year under this staff when everyone thought Chinander was the weak link. It’s absolutely pathetic that we aren’t 5-0 right now with as good as the defense is.
I didn’t think Chins would get it done, especially after the first year or two, but I always liked how he never made excuses. I remember when he came in while Frost was blaming Riley guys, Chinander said something like “these are all my guys now, when I took this job they became my guys so I’m going to coach them” (paraphrasing). Even in the games the D has underperformed they at least appeared to have some pride, showed up and played hard. I didn’t expect this type of performance but I also can see why guys are buying in. I also would argue that Tuioti, Dawson (OLB specifically) and Fisher are pretty good ACs.
I was another guy who constantly shit on Chins. I was wrong. He's a good coach. Maybe not a great coach but he's put together a unit that's as good as we've had in a lot of years with really no standout athlete to anchor it.
Chins as interim head coach. Make Frost really dwell over his shitty coaching efforts. then blow it up after the season cause I don’t give a fuck anymore.
It’s very painful to watch SEC football and then come back and watch Nebraska. Our talent is nowhere close. Let’s give Frost more time so we can look like Vanderbilt in a couple years.
From outsider view it seems like Alberts is going to let Frost coach for his job the whole season? I would think if he was planning on moving on he would have fired him this week instead of giving him the chance to win a few meaningless games vs a clearly down B1G. Not sure if even getting to 5-6 wins would save him but feels like a huge risk for the AD to let it play out.
He’s not getting fired. 80% of our fan base is a bunch of simple minded fucks who worship the man. Nebraska football is done. We should all quit caring.
Nothing is favorable when you look at the effort of our recruiting. Only 3 schools in P5 conferences are worse right now. I hate this university and Scott Frost
On defense I do, though if anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt its Chins. But basically the whole DL and secondary will be out.
I think Alberts is REALLY going to let this play out in public to get approval from the outside. He is absolutely a no-nonsense kind of dude and lots of talk he is well-aware of some issues with Scott. I’m not sure what his final move could be, but I’m 99% sure it’s coaching staff changes at a minimum while a full staff removal won’t be too big for him to make. You got to remember, Scott still has a TON of support in this state and it seems Alberts is willing to let him hang himself. Very similar to the last time lol. Either way, I’m 100% in Trev’s camp. Before I went to Nebraska-Lincoln I was at Trev’s old school for college. It was a complete dumpster fire and he made a ton of decisions that pissed off a lot of people but almost every single one has put the school in a great spot today. He is extremely detail oriented and isn’t going to make a rash decision either way. But I do think (even if it’s to hold off a year because of finances or whatever) he will make the right decision. I weirdly also trust him to find a coach worth a shit. Whoever he hires will be buttoned up and if that means we can actually not shoot our own dick off that would be a start.
I'm not sure Trev gives a single shit what our mouthbreathing fans think. Dudes got a pretty solid track record of making shrewd, unpopular decisions ripe with blowback potential. I think Frost is gonna be got.
This is easily the best thing about Trev, assuming it proves to be true. We’ve needed a guy who isn’t afraid to do something different to get success. I also have to wonder if Trev was brought in under the assumption that whoever followed Moos would be the one to fire Frost at some point. He may not be as beloved as Frost is, but he’s a former Husker and not some outsider, so I’d imagine most people won’t go too crazy whenever Frost racks up enough Ls to do it.
Exactly. I get that a lot of people (complete idiots) think Frost should get another year. That doesn't mean they will be outraged if he's canned
He might not, and it will 100% because they get to a certain level of wins and expectations. Trev isn’t afraid of Scott, I’m even more confident in this the more I hear since he got hired. Trev is every-bit the alpha Scott is without the other shit in the way.
It just feels like the defense is good enough and the B10 is bad enough that they will win enough games to keep him around. Similar to how fans hyped up Bo when he’d beat “names” like OSU, Michigan, and PSU when they were in terrible shape. I could see wins over NW and Wisconsin for example being the same for Frost.
Counter-point: We find ways to lose games we should win basically every week. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose every game left on the schedule
I’d argue that this defense might be the best since 2010-2011 it’s hilarious how awful the offense and special teams are.
I actually think we will. "We're gonna beat NW" is right next to "UW's defense is gonna suck now that [insert defensive coordinator] left" on the all time list of " do you even watch college football?" takes.
I assume because he’s like the 8th WR in the rotation so that part of it makes sense, but still comedic to say they’ve been working with him the past few weeks and he would have tried him at PR if he traveled. Especially after talking about how Toure is still getting used to catching punts.
