I haven't opened mine either. I had actively stop myself from wiping it out in like a week last year My pilot buddy grabbed me one in Vegas
Went to bardstown bourbon company yesterday to try their distillery releases. The triple stave might be the best pour I’ve ever had. If you get the chance it’s a great place to have a pour also tried the farrand cognac finish was good but not nearly the depth of the triple stave
This bourbon group I am in is doing homemade finished W107. There’s so much damn 107 in Ohio they just went out and bought a ton and are doing a honey finish barrel and a toasted finish barrel with 107.
Yeah here is Ohio, I feel like I can't even walk into a liquor store without tripping over a few bottles of special reserve. Antique is a little harder to find but is pretty easy to get to with a little effort. Lol at finding eagle rare or Buffalo trace though. You have to line up hours before a store opens on delivery day to get that. I watched an interview with the superintendent of Ohio liquor control, and he said Sazerac has actually pulled weller out of other states and into Ohio on purpose because they want to determine a demand ceiling for it. They still haven't hit the ceiling yet apparently.
Saw a Caribou Crossing store pick yesterday but it was $100. Passed on it but it looked like a fancy Canadian blantons. Is it worth it? Never seen it before.
I am in this group as well . Looking forward to more than likely missing the in post and jumping off a building
I haven't even tried for anything lately last one I got was the Down Home 9 year MGP Rye, half the picks have been shit so I've lost interest in the group. However I did want that Starlight Cigar Batch that went in 1 minute so that was annoying but I might try for this 107 Honey Wheater as well
I've never seen a bottle of eagle rare on store shelves in my life. I just picked this up for Keef this morning, just sitting on shelves.
I've bought Eagle Rare a few times in my life, but the only ones you're finding in Florida now are insanely overpriced or just by the stroke of luck. But that's pretty how the distribution of this stuff is by region.
It was on the shelf all last fall in Marietta, OH, but I haven't seen it since other than delivery day.
Yeah, honestly it is pretty rare for it to sit for more than 24 hours, but its definitely something I can get without lining up or anything. Weller green is something that will sit for days, though.
Haven't seen a 107 in the wild either, but can find special reserve on Sazarac drop dates almost monthly. Can get EHT, ER, BT or blantons almost monthly, too. Would love to get my hands on some 107. Going to start having work in Indy and may try to plan to driving trips through Ohio just to try to grab some.
Many of us also drink scotch, but below is a link to the actual scotch thread if you were looking for that. It's not quite as busy though https://www.the-mainboard.com/index.php?threads/official-scotch-thread.49369/page-11#post-16790410
I'll post in here because it hasn't had a post in months. I'll make this bourbon related by asking for a recommendation for a drinkable bourbon. Not really a fan, generally. Also, normally drink Laphroaig 10 and prefer peaty Scotches but just picked up a bottle of Johnnie Walker Green Label and some H. Upmann The Banker and Davidoff Churchill cigars.
I also moved over from drinking peaty scotches and tend to prefer bourbons with a higher rye mashbill. Here are some options to try and you can see what you like and go from there: Old Scout Smooth Ambler Smoke Wagon Straight Bourbon Basil Hayden Michter's Small Batch Bourbon Old Grandad 114
CharlieKellyReturns if this is available in your area, it may be a gateway whiskey to get you into bourbons. It’s not a bourbon, not a scotch, but drinks like a sweeter, lowland scotch.
Hey cheddarisbetter are you still in Chattanooga? Bringing my wife up for a long weekend Friday. If you are, let’s grab a drink at Whiskey Thief.
Got to sample the new Bottled in Bond offerings from Redwood Empire. The bourbon was great up front, but the youth (I think it’s only 5 years) came through in the finish. The rye on the other hand I thought was very good all the way through. I’m a big fan of their Emerald Giant rye so no surprise, but at 100 proof it was quite tasty. The bourbon has potential for sure, I’d like to taste it again in another 2 years. The rye I would grab a bottle of as soon as it hits shelves.
I'm way behind on this I'm sure but I just listened to a podcast on Uncle Nearest yesterday. Had no idea the history of who he was (former slave who taught Jack Daniels how to make Tennessee whiskey) and how the brand launched (African American lady read about him in a NY Times article and hunted down his ancestors, bought the old farm, and got "approval" from JD's ancestors). If you are interested it's a How I Built This podcast.
