I have had lunch there. They've got some pretty solid sandwich offerings. Will be interesting to see how it does. Thanks for asking.
Any high resolution pics so we can really see it? Spoiler But for real it looks absolutely delicious.
Días de los Muertos is coming up and is hosted in Pepper Place. It’s one of my favorite Birmingham events and we look forward to it every year. Added significance this year because I’ll be responding when they read my Dad’s name from the memorial roll call. It’s a very cool event with purpose and for a great cause. I encourage everyone to attend. https://barehandsinc.org/ddlm-2
Ended up having to eat baumhowers for lunch because the round took so long. Pretty solid food though.
Had automatic reservation at 7 but moved it back to 9. Tired and stuffed from eating lunch at like 3.
Some thoughts on Birmingham.. First, the golf is unbelievable. Pursell farms was the best place I've ever played. I've played more expensive courses and comparable courses, but farm links was really really nice without being "stuffy." I'll probably try to play there monthly from April-November. Oxmoore short course was great too. Looking forward to getting back and playing the others there and Ross bridge. Seems to me that there are just tons of good to great courses in the area. Really head and shoulders above Atlanta for public golf. You guys are really luck. I was pretty shocked by how hilly (mountainous?) it is out there. Really cool. Now for my hot take: Helen was good and I'd happily go back, but for 100 bucks I'd rather get Ruth's. Automatic was good. Crispy fish collar was one of the absolute best things I've ever eaten. Had a chilli butter sauce that was out of this world. Got scallops that were good but they were served on cold apple sauce. Throw those bitches in the warm chilli butter and it's a 10/10 dish. When I come back fuck all the fine dining, I'm eating at Gus', back 40 and the golf course. Anyway, you guys have a really good situation out there. Can't wait to come back in the spring.
Also.. I stayed in hoover and had to take 5 main roads to get anywhere. Reminded me of spaghetti junction in Atlanta.
If you really want the Birmingham experience next time you’re in town try going anywhere down highway 280 at 5pm.
Another hot take.. I love the half shell. I'll probably eat there next time I'm in town too. Was trying to stay away from chains this trip. I like cajun food.
No this is probably my biggest regret. It was our lunch plan yesterday but golf took forever and we ended up stopping at the first sportsbar we saw for Georgia game. First place I'm going next trip. Breakfast looks good too.
Crazy story but Milo Carlton was actually Jack Caddell’s bastard son. Milo’s mother, Jackie, worked as a cashier at the original Jack’s located in Homewood. Jackie caught Jack’s eye and inevitably became Jack’s mistress. When he was old enough, Milo worked at Jack’s as a line cook and tried to win his father’s approval by crafting his own brand of burger and fried pastry dessert. Legend has it, when Milo presented his culinary creations to Jack seeking his approval, Jack spat out the burger and pie on the floor in disgust and yelled, “Get this nasty ass horse meat burger and crusty ass bullshit frozen Apple pie doorstop piece of drywall shit the fuck out of my restaurant you stupid bastard!” Milo was devastated and turned his focus towards the beverage industry where he made his fortune selling brown syrup water to obese fatties who drank it up.

Here is the full article. Can’t tell if Bagwell will still be involved, as he seems to have wanted Parkside to continue as is https://www.al.com/life/2021/10/par...troversy-but-loses-its-lease-in-avondale.html
