Teared up in the doctors office seeing the baby move and hearing the heartbeat. This damn baby already has me as a huge softie
You’ll be singing and dancing like an absolute buffoon before you know it. Assuming you already don’t.
I find myself a LOT more empathetic these days. Took the 5 month old on his first road trip to meet the great grandparents for the first time today. Little man was a champ on the drive down (~2 hours) and most of the day before I had to flex that new dad knowledge of my own child to feed him/nap time " GGP's he's not tired he's in a happy mood and likes what we're doing..." No no, he's not happy, he's getting fussy and is about to go to 100% asshole real fucking fast so get out of the way. About 5 mins away from the house he started to get restless in his carseat on the way back home, And no blowout diapers so I consider today a fucking success! (he typically has 1/day where he takes a grown man shit that no diaper will be able to contain)
Every time my wife has given birth, I’ve been in the room for all, I’ve cried like a baby each time. The first time I wasn’t sure what to expect as I tend to hide feelings well, but each time seeing the baby for the first time absolutely wrecked me. It’s a beautiful moment.
Holy shit my two year old will not sleep through the night and if one of us isn’t in her room she screams her head off I am going to give her a horse tranq if this goes on much longer
I wasn’t around for the birth of my step son naturally so my daughter was the first time. I’ve helped deliver babies in the hospital when I was in healthcare. When my wife was delivering my daughter the nurse got her ready and started to push. She told me we would call the doctor in when we got close. My wife started to push and the nurse started screaming at me to push the button for the doctor. She ran in and didn’t even have time to gown up of glove as my daughter literally fell into her arms as she got close to my wife. The look of shock on the doctors face when she walked in scared the shit out of me.
If there is anything this boy loves more than daddy’s hat, idk what it is. Consequently, also the reason the patch is pealing [sigh].
1/3 got asked by her PE teacher to try out for her middle school basketball team. Made it to the final round of cuts but the coach didn't take any 6th graders. She's a bit miffed just because the coach took some eighth graders who didn't bother to show up to the first two practices like they were supposed to
Is it dusty in here? Little guy is laying on his changing table with mom changing his diaper and getting him ready for bed. With where she is standing he can turn his head and see me sitting in a chair waiting to hang out until he goes to sleep. I usually sit in his room and hang out while he goes to sleep as opposed to rocking him so he gets better at going to sleep on his own. A few weeks back in the bath time; he was sticking his tongue out and I started matching him. So he would stick his tongue out and move it back and forth like he is licking his lips. So I started matching it. Now at random times I will just stick my tongue out and move it back and forth and he will do the same thing. Tonight he looked over at me and did it while mom was changing his diaper and when I did it back, he just started cracking up laughing. I would laugh and he would start it again. Then when I did it he would crack up laughing again. It was the damn cutest thing watching him cut up while he and I matched each other. It’s crazy how much he patterns himself after me. Earlier I was working pizza dough for dinner and he walked over and got a round oven mat from his play area and started patting it and turning it over and matching what I was doing. Kids are incredible.
My almost three year old has now said “fuck it” to my wife a few times when he is upset. She is very unhappy with me.
Say what you will about the ubiquity of smartphones being a detriment to society, but easily capturing moments like these is rad
Boomer post here… I feel like sports cost about $20/season back when I was a kid. I’m paying like $250/kid per baseball season, $350 for basketball, $150 for soccer, etc for my kids. All of these activities run year round too. Shit is adding up fast.
Almost two year old. Any ideas on help with stopping biting? Also how do I get all this diaper gel out my washing machine?
My kids are still very young (6 and 4), but I agree. My older one is starting to put it together a little bit on the baseball field and it’s a trip to watch. When my guy was hitting, I overheard another parent say “Watch how hard this kid hits the ball for how young he is…” I smugged hard.
What’s the context of the biting. Our kid just recently stopped. We worked a lot with daycare to give them lots of teething bracelets so they could redirect her. They also would give her some extra outside quiet time because it seemed like she was getting overstimulated which led to biting. At home we had lots of discussions about biting and making sure to stop and correct her. Gave her a flick to the head a time or two when she was really adamant. Really it was just a phase she was in, we didn’t stop it so much as she just grew out of it.
whenever he gets really mad. At school it’s been over fighting over toys. We keep saying not nice and correcting him and trying to get him to use his word.
So, my 13 month old has now bitten 4 times in the past 3 weeks including twice today. Any tips other than biting him back would be most welcome
He seems to be doing it “lovingly” When corrected and told no he cries but I don’t think he’s putting 2 and 2 together yet.
My first thought is teething as well. Then my next thought is get one of those little spray bottles like to spray a cat with.
Wife fell today (she and baby are fine) today so we went to OBGYN triage. Very funny to see the little baby punch and kick the heart beat monitor for four hours. Sitting there listening to the heart beat on the speakers and then there’s a loud THUNK.
My wife can feel our little girl moving around, can’t feel on the outside yet. Pretty stoked for when that time comes. We’re about 24 weeks in.
As a follow up to the stool idea, I went ahead and spent a couple hours during the Arky game last week building the top. Put it together this morning. I need to paint it but it didn’t turn out that bad. Stool was around $40 on Amazon and lumber was about $20.
Theres a couple of episodes that come to mind that just blow me away as trying to live up to it. One is where he pushes around lawn chairs at full speed and pretends to be a train going around the house with multiple stops. Another involves being a medical patient for a long period of time. Daddy Robot comes to mind. Theres a few others where the commitment level is just nuts.
Need a good Christmas Present idea from dads that is something my wife will find useful either through the rest of the pregnancy or as a new mother. Looking for something that a new parent would never think you may need or find helpful.
Is the present for you or your wife? I think its your wife but just making sure. I think it was mentioned in here, but a bottle sterilizer/cleaner would be one suggestion. They have some fancy ones like this: https://www.target.com/p/one-step-sterilizer-and-dryer-baby-brezza/-/A-16712199#lnk=sametab My wife hated how much time she spent cleaning bottles early on to the point.
Oh and I bought my wife this thing when she was in her third trimester. She put it under her desk during the winter and would use it 6 to 10 times a day. (Turn off adblocker if it doesn't show up)
Would y’all get 4 year old one of those balance bikes or bike with training wheels? I think I remember someone on here saying they liked the balance bikes because it prepared them for real bikes but I’m not sure if she might be too young
