Feeling like a total schmuck for not getting the preferred 100k
Somehow I convinced myself that I had been too "active" in the space for the time being (not talking 5/24 mind you)

Put in a luggage damage claim through Chase about 2 months ago. Took a while but eventually got $490 back. The value new was about $650 2 years ago...although it was essentially brand new b/c I only used it once

$95 for 100k points was an absolute no brainer. Tried to get any friends I could to apply as well.

Parents still think they open up a second credit card and they’ll be $100k in debt and on the streets in a month.

So its official. Im an idiot and my 500k chase points are gone because I forgot to transfer my points over to a different card/account after I cancelled my card. Dont be me. I even appealed the decision and everything and they still wont give them back.

The Southwest Rapid Rewards cards are up to a 100k bonus. I originally got my Rapid Rewards card many years ago. The terms say if you don’t have a current RR card and haven’t received a Cardmember bonus in 24 months, you are eligible. I am outside the bonus window.

My question is — If I cancel my card and apply a short while later, would I be eligible for the 100k? I’m trying to scheme some points for a honeymoon next year.

If anyones buying a house in the near future and have the amex plat, I would recommend RBN. Get 1 MR point for every $1 for purchase or sale of your house. You don’t have to pay anything, you just have to use a RBN approved real estate agent. We just bought and sold and i just got the deposit of MR points for the purchase and it feels amazing

That seems crazy. So like you could get a million mr points for buying a house for that price using their agent? Was your agent good? We'll be buying and selling within the next year so this interests me.

Exactly. The one to one assumes it’s a common commission transaction (3% for each agent) and it’s adjusted if the commission rates are different, but it’s really that simple. And our agent was good and you have the chance to refer people (so if you have an agent you like, som long as you haven’t actually entered into a contract, you can try and get them into the network).

Who's hopping on the new Capital One Venture X card?

$395 annual fee. Spend $10K in 6 months to get 100K points. $300 back on travel through their portal. $200 back on Airbnb for the time being? TSA/Global entry credit. Priority Pass (including authorized users, which you can add up to 4 for free). Seems like a really good deal compared to Amex and Chase, especially once their lounge network gets up and going. Points seem to only be useful for international travel though. No transferring to domestic carriers or Hyatt/Hilton/Marriott.

Apple is pretty good at setting the retail price (illegally IYAM) across all platforms. I haven’t looked, but I would think using the points bonus would be the same as the 50% money payback was and a good deal. I’m looking to get the airpod pros for my wife for Christmas and that’s the place I’m going to look (after Costco).

Amex Plat has a way better sign up bonus right now if you’re purely looking for points. The new capital one venture x card has a better one as well.

Also, he can’t hold the sapphire preferred and reserve at the same time.

Nice. You already got the card? Any issues with applying or getting approved? Did you have a previous relationship with capital one?

Only thing that makes me hesitant is I opened a checking account with them last year to get $400 and closed it soon after. Not sure if that would have any impact.

Oh, and I also promptly transferred that $400 into my betting account and lost it.

    I got denied myself :(

but I applied for the wifey and was pleasantly surprised she was approved! I had a cap one savings with $10k in it. Still denied. Took my money and went somewhere else.

I have more new accounts and recent inquiries because I’m a degenerate.

Do you have high natural spend, or do you use any Manufactured Spend methods? I had no problem hitting 5K, but 7.5K is probably out of my spend range

I've been on the sidelines since COVID, but I remember Chase and other CC companies had been alot stricter on approvals. Has that opened up now? Looking to get back in the churning game here soon.

I read that cap one can deny for seemingly no reason. Just because you have good to great credit doesn’t mean they’ll approve you. Seems odd.

Honestly, I could see us shifting to this card full time. I’ll pull out a chase freedom for a 5x category but I’m getting tired of managing different cards. I’ve churned them all at this point.

this Venture X has all the things I want. Easily offset annual fee. Trip protections. Cell phone insurance. A good mobile app. Visa - so accepted everywhere. 2x on all purchases is fair.

At $695 the Amex platinum just doesn’t make sense. Went to a centurion lounge in Miami a few days ago… crowded and not at all worth it. It was honestly terrible.

Going to cross-post this in the travel thread:

Could use some suggestions/ideas from the TMB think tank.

GF has never been overseas and I just got a job that allows actual vacations, so time to spend my points on a nice trip for the two of us. She wants Italy and I want business class to make the trip memorable for her, despite the terrible expectations I’m setting. We’re looking at mid-March, so spring break is screwing us I’m sure.

I’m looking at UA flights from IAH (Houston) to FCO (Rome) (potentially returning from Milan, but it doesn’t matter) and they’re 155k each way, so 620k miles for the two of us. Open to DAL, but their flights are ~1.5x the mile cost for business, about the same as UA business class for Comfort+ Premium or whatever.

Collectively, we’ve got the following points/miles: 560k Chase Points (between the two of us), 440k Amex Points (mine), 130k DAL miles (between the two of us), minimal UA and AA miles.

    Cards we have:

Me: Amex Plat (2015), Citi AA (2015), CSR (2018), CF (2018), CIP (2018) Chase UA (2017), Hyatt (2018), DAL Plat (2019). (2018 was a biggun for me haha). Trying to stay under 5/24 (or is it 4/24) to re-double dip or modified version, or whatever, in summer 2022 after the 4 year waiting period on chase has lapsed.

Her: CSP (2019) and DAL Gold (2019). (When we started dating and I convinced her to stop using her East Texas bank debit card for everything).

    Could use some ideas for:

    1) how to make up those 60k miles we need for the UA flights. If I can get Amex points there somehow (through a partner?) or if I should move Marriott points (only 100k) or Hyatt (70k) I guess that works, but I’d rather use them for rooms.

    2) I checked Avianca and ANA for using my Amex points for the flights and no luck. I think SB being around then likely caused UA to pull those flights off partners. Other routes to use Amex points are welcome.

    3) Any cards I should have her churn? And assuming its a UA or Chase card, can I get those points/miles moved over to me? (We live together, so address should match which I think used to be the rule).

    4) Anything else. Been out of the game since COVID started up, so looking to get back into it, despite the golden era being behind us.

    5) I know there are prob dozens of Italy writeups on TMB, but if anybody has some COVID travel experience they can point me to, that would be great.

    Many TIA.

You’re in a similar situation I was in when planning our big Asia trip. My recommendation is to just cough up a couple hundred bucks to Juicy Miles and have them plan and book your points trip. Best money I’ve ever spent considering things change so frequently. They’ll give you multiple options for your itinerary and my guy gave me his opinions on best value and bang for the buck etc because he had already flown all the different first class products before

    I need advice:

For years I’ve been a loyal Southwest flyer, and have the Southwest premier credit card you years. I’ve had companion pass since 2015 but I moved away from Dallas in 2019 to Utah. I have tried my best to keep loyal to Southwest and I’ve kept companion until this year, but I just can’t anyone more. Since a majority of my travel was business based, and their lack of good availability of nonstop options to where I need to fly, plus a couple trips in a row of not great experiences when flying leisure companion flights back East with connections (never fly southwest in the afternoon/evening as you are basically hoping against hope that your flight will be on time) has lead me to finally give up on them.

My question is what do I do moving forward? I have been gifted Delta Gold by my father who is a diamond, and obviously I’ll be flying delta moving forward but I’m trying to decide on which CC to go with to help get/keep status. I’ll likely fly at least 40 segments a year, and would like to have sky club/centurion access considering my main airports are SLC, Denver, Phoenix, Vegas, and LA. Is it in my best interest to get a Delta branded card, or go with the Amex Platinum? My wife will be an authorized user as well, and my other main CC is the Marriott Bonvoy top of the line Amex.

    Any help is appreciated. TIA

if you want to keep/boost status, and will put spend on a card you'll want to get the Delta Reserve Amex imo. it also gets you centurion lounge access and delta sky club access when flying delta. centurion club is getting more restrictive starting sometime in 2023 but I don't remember the deets.

amex plat is a good secondary option but as an also frequent delta flyer i'm dropping the plat after next AF hits. getting hard to break even there.

if you go with either i'll throw you a referral, if you go amex plat you might wait to try and get the 125k points offer. my referral is 100k pts which used to be hard to get.

i assume that's the delta amex plat, which is good, but not when wanting lounge access

at this point im dropping the amex plat before long and will just continue to carry delta amex plat/amex reserve. the companion tickets eat up the whole AF on both, as we now buy first class domestic tickets occasionally.
