*unless he's open to a manual grinder. Although it would probably suck to hand grind something that fine
Build quality and Features (perhaps temp control and/or PID). My understanding is that the Breville Dual Boiler is about the cheapest dual boiler on the market (if making milk drinks matters?)
Temp stability is the biggest plus. Build quality is another. Depends on the workflow - there are some good single boiler machines around 1k that are good buys like rancilio Silvia with pid or lelit Victoria. Breville dual boiler is good but the build quality on brevilles is suspect after warranty period is over. If you have the budget of 2-2.5, and are looking for a dual boiler, look at lelit Bianca.
Sette 270 grinder Breville machine. I got one without grinder. Interested in the rocket machines also. Don’t want to wait 20 mins to make a drink.
Wife just added a hand blown Chemex to my brew arsenal & upgraded my scale-game to an Acaia Pearl S Pretty stoked
Curious about this, measuring pour rate seems interesting but I can’t convince myself I’d taste a difference
I was kind of wondering the same thing about the expensive electric goose neck kettles. I know I need one, but is the Stagg really worth it?
Really just got this model, as it’s the recent upgrade to the original model. Weight capacity is higher, which will be helpful while measuring for cold brew. Haven’t messed with the smart features yet, so no clue if I’ll actually use them… Recipes & pour rate will be helpful to the wife, when she’s on coffee-duty though.
Last time I tried chemex I think I accidentally created a vacuum. The brew water was gurgling down the chemex spout. that’s all I got
My first ever scale broke and I got a new one delivered from Best Buy because I had a gift card. Should've looked at the specs closer. Doesn't even measure to a half gram. Feel like a caveman. May have to get a vintage triple beam scale to up my cuntiness level.
Not sure if anyone's given a try to the Fellow Drops coffee sub. I've gotten 2 good bags so far and just ordered a third one. Also paused my Trade sub and may just cancel it soon. This one from Coava just hits the spot - very easy to dial in and hit the notes consistently.
I had been to the San Diego Coava location a couple times. Picked up beans a few times and always enjoyed it. Just looked up the location and see that they’re now permanently closed. Covid casualty. Bummer.
I have this scale and it’s done pretty much all that I could ask for. Seems precise, the timer works great…no frills. KitchenTour Coffee Scale with Timer 3kg/0.1g High Precision Pour Over Drip Espresso Scale with Back-Lit LCD Display (Batteries Included)
19-22 a bag for the most part plus 2$ shipping on each bag. Some smaller lots around 24-25. A little more $$ but better profiles / smaller lot coffees.
Already made about a 40% improvement, from yesterday's brew. I've obviously had Chemex before, but never alongside a v60 brew. It's crazy how much system & method impact the result... Chemex filters really seem to pull a lot more of the oils.
Still occasionally forgetting to pause Arcade shipments. I got a Costa Rica friday. It's alright but not that great. I just can't find great coffee state side. It all seems stale/old compared to what I can get off the shelves of a Riba Smith grocery store in Panama.
Holy shit that scale looks amazing and absurd… I never knew I “needed” such a thing, but here we are. Also welcome to the Chemex master race.
Does anyone have a draining station or device to let the v60/wave dry out before throwing out the filter? My wife usually runs the dishwasher every night so we don't have dirty mugs in the morning. I realize that this is unnecessary, but this thread is all about treating yoself
I just set it in the sink but I imagine a plate would work too but I’m a simple man. Look forward to discovering there’s something I don’t have that I need though
Doctor has told me to try to cut out caffeine because of have some chest pain I’ve been having lately and I’m very salty about it. Now I’m back in search of great tasting decaf options. All suggestions welcome.
If you're ok with medium roast, happymug's is fine. I tend to like light roasts and unfortunately haven't had a good one. But if you want to go low caffeine with loose leaf tea, I can come up with some recs
This is quite good, from a local Jax roaster. I always have it on hand https://boldbeancoffee.com/shop-coffee/p/decaf-colombia-mustafa
He thinks I’ve been consuming too many deep fried yokels. I’ve been asked to transition to consuming more vegans from Portland.
what did you end up going with? i'm starting to look at a 'prosumer' machine (prefer pro600 as of now) but curious what you/others found
A friend distributes these machines and I’m getting one at cost. It’s a beast https://www.crem.coffee/product/fam_ilijot/ONE-2B-R-LFPP-Dual
Woof. That’s a beauty. I had read about this a while ago as I was drawing up a list of upgrades in the next year or two. If I remember correctly, this used to be an expobar product?
Yeah it’s based on the Leva from the looks of it. Didn’t realize Expobar basically rebranded. So build quality should be solid https://crem-international.co.uk/expobar/leva-product https://www.bellabarista.co.uk/news/the-new-range-from-crem.html Maybe I’ll have to tap you when I’m ready for my upgrade next year ;)
