Almost completely new roster, coaches trying to figure out rotation, guys learning their role in the system, and North Texas was a tournament team last year. Hogs didn’t look so hot at the beginning of last year either but when the rotation got settled and guys felt comfortable then it all started clicking.
A Tennessee fan who talks about being an “established” program. Maybe he’s right, but maybe not. Would like to know his rationale with Kentucky since that roster essentially turns over every year. It’s a hot take to get reactions. Probably upset bc of Tennessee’s poor showing last year.
Kamani Johnson hasn’t played (still has cast on hand) and Jaylin Williams sat out against North Texas (a team that made it to 2nd round of ncaa tourney last year) with back spasms. We have very little front court help behind them, and Trey Wade got his first action against UNT coming off his knee surgery. Guards are mostly new and trying to find the right rotations early. We are pretty great defensively, just need those bigs back to help rebound. Scoring will come with this group
Other than Sategna who you talking about? The punter? Those are only two recent ones I’m not super high on Sategna and hope I’m wrong. He’s fast but not elite speed in sec fast.
Probably led by bturns I thought they were saying overrated but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was that stupid shit too
Yikes. We got lucky. Defense has to improve. Bowl eligible is huge. Will take the extra practice time it gives us. Wow. Loving the improvement
Damn right we got lucky 3 missed field goals and a 4th down hold....not the kind of luck I'm familiar w as a razorback fan I mean wtf we kick 3, they miss 3, and we win by 3
We were the happy recipients of a classic Mike Leach game. Wins a big rivalry game against a ranked opponent, jumps to the top-25, then shits the bed against an unranked and struggling Arkansas. Had a chance to win with a field goal and decided to trot out the backup for the game winner, who was 4-for-7 before the kick...which he shanked. Classic, classic Leach. At least the press conferences are fun.
Through friends. Met him this past weekend. His GF and one of my buddies GF are apparently really good friends. Good dude. Was fun to party and chill with. Def knows his Arkansas football.
My thoughts after one game: - Notae is going to be great and frustrating all season. Gotta take the good with the bad. 30 points and 7 steals doesn’t happen often regardless of opponent. He missed a few open teammates several times looking for his own shot. - Devo has to be more aggressive. Zero shots and zero points can’t be something he settles for if he’s going to be a team leader. Had several uncharacteristic turnovers and seemed to defer to Devo and Lykes. Did the same in one of those scrimmages and tonight. I’m confident he emerges and gets more aggressive. I think he’s trying to facilitate too much and force some passes that aren’t there, and needs to utilize his length, ability to create, and being a lefty to look for his shot a little more in the midrange game. -Jaylin Williams does so much and I love him. Tenacious rebounder and defender in the paint. He needs to stay healthy. Sat out scrimmage last week with back spasms and took a rough fall tonight on a bullshit no call and also took a healthy shot to the side of his head that was bleeding the entire 2nd half. Great and willing passer and facilitator at the high post or on the perimeter to stretch the defense. We need him to be that guy inside badly, because I don’t think Kamani is capable. - Toney is a dog and I love his physicality. He is a highlight waiting to happen. He’s going to get a tip slam this season that is going to make me shit my pants. He’s Justin Smith’s replacement. Great defender and super athletic. - Umude looked okay, expecting more from his perimeter game as the season develops. Another good to great athlete that will play a lot of 4 for us. - Lykes is unbelievably quick and had several key buckets or free throws tonight and in the scrimmages. Wonderful weapon off the bench. Reminds me a lot of former Ole Miss guard Stefan Moody. perimeter defense was really bad. 2nd half we really turned it up and created some turnovers. I know all the new faces will take some time to mesh together, and we’ve got some guys like Williams, Kamani, and Wade battling injuries in our front court… but our rotations were not great defensively. Staying healthy will be huge.
I was surprised at how much taller their team was than ours. We are really going to struggle against teams this year with big men if we can’t do better. They seemed to get every rebound and we had to steal it from them or catch them being careless when they pulled it down.
My thoughts are that they better get a lot better and do it quickly because the team I watched tonight would probably go like 4-14 in the SEC. Devo looked like he started playing basketball a week ago.
