Yes, I guess one of the things they have to consider that we don't is set and actor coordination. Focusing on geographical area storyline and not chronology may allow them to get more out of their budget and plan to have certain actors more readily available for filming.
They are really starting to pump out content recently. Whitecloaks and Thom finally seen. Still no Loial
never got around to starting the books, but I'm all the way in on this show. Bezos is a scourge on humanity but he brings the heat in sci-fi/fantasy shows.
Tough because it’s 14 books, but… https://nerdist.com/article/wheel-of-time-everything-you-need-to-know/ “To frame it in an oversimplified way, The Wheel of Time is a high-stakes story about good vs. evil with a heavy sprinkling of hero’s journey stages and archetypes. It’s a Chosen One tale. The Dark One, a formidable force of evil, wants to influence the universe and twist minds and ultimately make it his world. A character in the book describes him as “the embodiment of paradox and evil, destroyer of reason and logic, breaker of balance, the unmaker of order.” The Dark One and his many minions contend with our heroes at every turn, sometimes even in the world of dreams. The Dragon, the leader of the Light, is the champion who must face the Dark One. A reincarnation of a single soul, the Dragon has battled the Dark One again and again. The Dragon has allies perhaps equal in number to the Dark One. The Wheel of Timeexplores the players in this battle, who has been reborn as the Dragon, and what role various lands of the world have. It’s a big place with intricate politics, which leads us to…”
Dumais wells is coming. I don't care if the series is trash I will still wAtch that episode. Oshamon Kill!
That said, I'm getting nervous that there seems to be no matching dialogue from the books in the previews. Especially because it would make the whole fandom geek out if there were. An occasional the wheel weaves as the wheel wills is nice and all but give me an Al Alisandre and I'd melt.
I'm going to be real sad if they don't have Moiraine's story of Manetheren speech in the Two Rivers. That part of the books is when it really hooked me in. I really doubt it's going to happen and I understand why but I can still hope
just got back from the Atlanta premier of episodes 1 and 2 - it's good. have no idea how it'll come across to someone who hasn't read the books, and there were a few really iffy CGI moments, but I enjoyed it.
The question I would ask is how much they were exposed to? Did they see two episodes or an entire season? Edit "I’ve seen six of the first season’s eight episodes."
I imagine there will be some b rated CGI. You can't really help it if they're going to try and show some of the things described in detail in the books. My expectations aren't sky high regardless. I'm just hopeful the source material is covered extensively enough that we don't get the Jackson/Hobbit treatment.
The CGI doesn't matter to me that much. Character development is much more important. It sounds like they didnt do a great job of connecting the characters, which to me is one of the critical jobs of retelling this on film. Think of how little everyone was together throughout the series, and yet part of what kept you going is just wanting them to be back together reuniting and hopefully being more like their old selves when they did so. I was frustrated in the books when Rand felt inhuman at times, but at least in the end Sanderson brought him back somewhat. If you can't connect in some way to Rand in the beginning then it may be a challenge, especially if Matt is the best character (according to Sepinwall) and they changed the actor for season 2.
I'm still a bit optimistic as they are signed on for a second season. They have time to grow and mature as a series. This is not a glowing review but certainly more hopeful than Sepinwall's. https://www.theverge.com/2021/11/16...-tv-show-review-rosamund-pike-game-of-thrones
and even more hopeful... Verdict The Wheel of Time is gorgeous, well acted, and strongly written, a show that understands the characters and plot of Robert Jordan’s books without being slavishly loyal to the source material. The first three episodes use a mix of gripping action and personal dramas to bring the pages to life while also providing an accessible introduction to series newcomers. The groundwork showrunner Rafe Judkins is laying shows he has a plan for the future. Hopefully he will be given the time and money to see it through. https://www.ign.com/articles/the-wheel-of-time-premiere-review-episode-1-3
Yes, plenty of shows have had growing pains that eventually emerged. i think the biggest issue with WoT is that everyone is trying to cast it as a GoT clone, which is absurd on one level (WoT came first as a book series and actually finished), but fair on another. It needs to find it's own mark.
Think they nailed the castings of Moiraine and Nynaeve. First example of a deviation from the books with Nynaeve's backstory. I do like it and think it works for motivations and whatnot
With the show coming out Friday I think I'll talk about book connections in the Wheel of Time thread on the Book Board. I don't want to have any influence or sway on new watchers who didn't read it
torrance just dropped. We should probably designate this thread show only with no book spoilers or discussion.
I remember going into GOT seas. 1 blind. Loved it read all the books in between seasons 1 & 2. Thinking that’s going to be impossible to do here, about 10 minutes into first episode and I’m digging it
