He might get a lot longer than he should with them being just the brokest. He clearly cant coach or recruit so be smart to move on but bet he gets 2 more years unless they need a new coach to sell a stadium fundraising deal.
Pretty sure the last time he played Miami a qb who couldn’t throw and a big slow wr who can’t catch beat him
He had deployed the parachute by that point. I think he was something absurd like 13-2 vs uf and um in tallahassee. He needed meaningless games to really go peak jimbo
I do like that Jimbo gets a free visit to Miami in 2023 maybe he’ll get to reel in the next Donnell Harris, Amari Daniels, Yulkeith Brown, and Shemar Stewart but historically Miami has not been kind to us on the field
you must have forgot how the 3 previous games to 2017 went. Saul Shabazz you better let your boy know Dalvin Cook not walking through that door at TAMU.
I did not seem to forget that they were all victories. But maybe you are on to his devious plan to just recruit better players than the other team has. That was something I always liked about the guy
Nah..Amari nice been a balla since lil league and I wish he was in the O&G, but he ain't no Dalvin. Buddy would put the FSU offense on his back when Jimbo would be on his bull shit with the game plan.
Not sure I trust it but smoke coming from SC about Campbell tonight. Don’t hate it but like Aranda more and those seem to be our final two at this point.
I mean Campbell can still be kind of anonymous in LA, there’s a lot more going on than USC football coach.
I’m stupid high in Napier. I don’t want him at Florida. I also thought taggart and Norvell were good hires
There's no reason Campbell can't succeed at a very high level at SC. He's been a very good coach at Toledo and Iowa State. Think it's just a matter of whether he's willing/able to adapt to a different circumstance. He probably wouldn't be my first choice for SC, but that job is weird and it's also not that hard to win/recruit there if you can get it rolling even a little with some momentum. If he embraces that, he should at least avoid "train wreck" status.
For it being such a common belief that it's not that hard to win at USC, no one has consistently done that since John Robinson's first stint except Carroll (unless you want to count Larry Smith's back-to-back-to-back Rose Bowls before his tenure derailed). There is no good reason why that is the case yet it is.
I think he's a good coach, but I do think sometimes I wonder how his star has gotten so bright. His overall tenure isn't much better than Dan McCarney's best years, and they without a doubt underperformed this year. The whole, our goal this year wasn't to make the Big 12 championship game just makes me wonder if the guy is suited for a big time job.
For as much shit as Michigan got for the "Michigan Man" crap (and some of it was deserved) after RichRod, SC might be the worst at that of any program in the country. Since 1940, USC has had 13 head coaches (not counting interims Orgeron and Williams). 11 of them either played or coached at SC before they got the HC job. I believe the only ones who didn't were Larry Smith and Pete Carroll. The last decade+ was ruined by family hires of Kiffin/Sark and then Helton. At least in this search they seem to be trying to find the best candidate instead of just another SC guy.
I think Campbell will be able to recruit better than some give him credit whenever he lands a big job as long as that job isn’t in the Deep South or at USC. I just don’t see him playing those games as well. If your coach isn’t recruiting well at a big school, he won’t get the benefit of the doubt. Zero chance Mullen gets fired or manny is potentially getting fired if the recruiting wasn’t so subpar. If you stack a shitty class and then a transition class, it can create a nightmare that even the portal struggles to fix.
That's fair. I've got my questions about Campbell. I have questions about anyone else they'd hire, too.
they definitely need to go for a non-USC guy but I still think they need the personality like Carroll had. USC just seems to be at their best if they’re arrogant. I see why people think Franklin is a good fit for that job even though I’m not sure he would leave.
Very true. No seemingly obvious guy for that job. Though this stuff is such a gamble, the obvious guys don't work out at least half the time anyway.
If it's down to Campbell and Aranda, I would feel more confident in Campbell being a good coach there. I have no clue if that's the case, but it seems like those are the two names getting the most play at the moment. And that's not a shot at Aranda. He might be awesome. But he's only been a HC for two years and went 2-7 in one of them.
I think the concerns would be pretty similar for both, so I don't disagree since Campbell at least has more of a resume. Neither seem to have the personality to flourish in that job, and would really need to structure their staff around meeting their weaknesses.
I understand the thinking that we need a personality like Carrol but I disagree. We just need a coach that can instill discipline and toughness. We have completely lacked that since Carroll left. For all of his celebrity interaction etc those SC teams were big, strong and tough as fuck. If we win socal recruits will want to stay home so I am less worried about recruiting than most. I have heard good things about Aranda in one on one settings so I think he can build back a lot of the relationships with our feeder schools that have been broken recently. We can keep a guy like Donte and hire a couple more west coast recruiters and be ok there. I like Aranda more because I know he is a great defensive mind and I want a coach who is a master at one side but I would be happy with Campbell too.
