It's also hilarious that people think that every single person in Louisiana wears shrimp boots and rides an airboat to work.
ND AD really thinks they should be winning titles in this era? I don't think they can't but its not like the 80s anymore and we have Bama and UGA building death stars.
So, just to make sure I'm reading this correctly, Swarbrick stood by Kelly when he killed a guy. Stood by him when ND lost 4+ games in five of his first seven seasons, including going 4-8 in year seven. Stood by him when they had to vacate the only good season Kelly had in the first seven seasons. But then made it clear to Kelly he had no future at ND if he didn't win a title as Kelly went 54-9 with two playoff appearances the last five years?
You’re missing the points where Brian Kelly held him to the fire multiple times with NFL offers, interest from USC, and others to leverage him for new contracts, new facilities, pulled back academic standards, etc. Kelly lost a lot of favor with the administration for constantly trying to re-negotiate, especially after ND kept him after 2016. I actually think the ND administration is dumb for that. You can’t blame a guy for expecting market price, particularly if the coach is actually very good. But it’s not the first or last time the ND administration will show too much pride. Swarbrick was pretty candid in his press conference today. He knew Kelly had been feeling restless at ND for awhile.
I can understand and kind of applaud that in this market, although it's a huge risk. The post I quoted seemed to suggest something else to me, but I also didn't know the context.
What exactly do you need to even manage with Aranda at DC, Joe Brady at OC and an entire starting 2 deep of NFL players? How many actual posters would even fuck up that situation?
Right, and he only hired Joe Brady because Sean Payton told him to hire Joe Brady, not like he had some brilliant insight about how this no name NFL analyst would translate to the college game.
I'm not sure I can remember an assistant in the past 25 years who had more buzz than Joe Brady when Burrow was killing it. That hype train was bananas.
My take is that Kelly seemed to float his name for other jobs whenever he could as leverage and eventually one side was going to blink. I don't think it necessarily came down to Swarbrick saying no to him, but with the program on solid footing they might recognize the ability to take the next step with a stronger emphasis on recruiting led to not bending over backwards for Kelly. I think standing by him early on was out of desperation of wanting Kelly to work. (Maybe similar to the situation with Harbaugh at Michigan?) We had three disasters in a row and if Kelly didn't work then the program was really doomed forever.
I find it hilarious seeing the same people who are morally outraged at BK for simply leaving for a better situation would be elated with an Urban hire Urban seems to be the antithesis of everything ND claims to be about…but I guess turning a blind eye is kinda the Catholic thing
Is ND the type of job Tomlin would consider? Seems like he is CFB's white whale, and the Steelers are currently imploding.
I hope I’m not being lumped into this group, because I don’t mind how Kelly left. Business is business.
nothing better than southern baptists acting holier than thou towards Catholics like the absolute worst group of human beings on planet earth hating on others always makes me laugh
i hate the Steelers but i really like tomlin Hope he leaves that shitty organization for another job soon
Maybe you're seeing stuff outside this board, but most of us here aren't mad. Neither are most of my fellow ND fan friends and family.
mostly outside of the board except for this I don't venture into the ND thread but most of the guys itt seem pretty level headed
Thoros hates BK and would be more outraged if he'd stayed. Don't get me wrong. We're not happy, but it's far from outrage at BK. And very few are blaming him.
