there's an internet fan fiction that they caught it from some Brentwood player who tested positive immediately after their fixture with Spurs, but in reality, it's more than likely all over the place (multiple vectors) and just completely blew up in our training facilities. Would guess most (if not all) of our club is vaccinated.
I mean, we had a player test positive today, after he trained with the club. So in 3 days, half of the people that positive player came in contact with, will test positive.
the reasonable part of my brain is telling me: "Spurs need to forfeit this match and get themselves sorted and healthy" but the part of my brain that craves watching train wrecks is all: "no, no, let's just see what happens"
So based on process of elimination... -Royal -Davies -Reguilon (maybe) -Skipp -Son -Lucas -Gil (maybe) -Romero (maybe) basically everyone on that list is a starter except for Gil, LOL.
So now the concerns rightfully should shift from can we play to what is the long-term impact on the team and individuals from a health standpoint. Not everyone does well. we have seen examples of player's having long haul covid issues that impacted their health or much of last year. I wonder if this is part of why Conte is talking about it in the way that he is. he is focused on the reality of the health scare and not the games it impacts, which is the more reasonable focus, IMO.
If Jose was still at Spurs, he'd be angry with your medical staff for informing the players they tested positive.
So basically if things stand as is, we need to win and score two goals to go through 2-1 or 2-0. It doesn’t look like it will stay as is though. It gets more complicated after that. Teams are ranked according to points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss). If two or more teams are tied on points, the following tiebreaking criteria are applied, in the order given, to determine the rankings (see Article 16 Equality of points – group stage, Regulations of the UEFA Europa Conference League):[2] Points in head-to-head matches among the tied teams; Goal difference in head-to-head matches among the tied teams; Goals scored in head-to-head matches among the tied teams; If more than two teams are tied, and after applying all head-to-head criteria above, a subset of teams are still tied, all head-to-head criteria above are reapplied exclusively to this subset of teams; Goal difference in all group matches; Goals scored in all group matches; Away goals scored in all group matches; Wins in all group matches; Away wins in all group matches; Disciplinary points (direct red card = 3 points; double yellow card = 3 points; single yellow card = 1 point); UEFA club coefficient. Due to the abolition of the away goals rule, head-to-head away goals are no longer applied as a tiebreaker starting from this season. However, total away goals are still applied as a tiebreaker.
Mura pull one back. Any win over Rennes would put us up on GD. If it ever gets played. A Rennes forfeit because their fixture schedule is oh so congested (a whopping three games left this month) would also be acceptable ty.
I suspect UEFA may change the rule and allow us to play in January given the next round doesn’t begin until February.
Watch Rennes really dig in now to not play our game and try to get us to forfeit. This was actually the best result we could have hoped for where Vitesse won the game. If we can’t be Rennes we don’t deserve to advance, and oh btw they are in 2nd place in France, so no easy feat.
As far as rescheduling, we have issues because of potentially winning v West Ham in the Carabao and Morecambe in the FA Cup 3rd round. Someone joked that the inevitable circumstance is we draw with Morecambe to force a replay (which have returned this year up to and including the 4th round). Just add another game on the pile.
Looks like the game with Rennes will be cancelled. Not the worst thing in the world to crash out of that and focus on the Premier League especially since we are going to have a lot of games to make up already.
Yea I care about focusing on a top four finish and establishing Conte’s vision for the style and roster construction going forward.
What a clusterfuck. Players are already in Leicester and both clubs asked for the game to be postponed two days ago. Utter incompetence from the league.
Eh. It’s like a 2.5 hour drive. Put ‘em back on the bus and put on The Dark Knight and they won’t even notice. This sucks, void the season.
