It's interesting. Much has come to light in the past decade + about the complex interplay of neurohormonal factors that essentially make weight an inconquerable, pre-determined equilibrium. Not sure there's been the same sort of biological links discovered WRT being a tiny little gun man.
You were saying? I’m all for a good thread derailment, but don’t pull this revisionist bullshit like it’s on me. I attempted a discussion in good faith, there are people who’s opinions/perspectives I value/respect in these discussions, I have changed my mind/pov on things from these talks, but goddamn someone put the kids to bed. The ad hominems never start here. Pull the receipts.
Unfortunately for TMB (but fortunately for Tib, Jr), my son has graduated to travel soccer so I am no longer his coach and the team doesn’t need sponsors. I did take on the role of team manager, however.
In my limited view, the Venn Diagram of pasty, short fat dudes with neck beards who wanted to be cops or soldiers but their asthma kept them out of either and dudes who sleep with their glocks and carry them to Golden Corral to eat off the chocolate fountains is a circle.
Literally every one of those replies is a reply to something you said. As my momma used to say do t start no shit won’t be no shit. Everyone can afford to be better, but you’re not helping
Replies to things I said that weren’t controversial in anyway? You’re seriously caping? Starting shit is having an opinion that differs ever so slightly? I can conceive a need of a gun in the use of personal protection means I’m a 2A freak? Because I own properties in rough neighborhoods I’m a slum lord who’s scared of/wants to shoot black people? There’s a correlation between liking the Sopranos and wanting to shoot someone? Caping for this level of hyperbole makes you look silly. I appreciate the number of people engaging in it makes you think it’s right or okay, but it’s pointless.
I see a different demographic around here. White, millennial guy who drives a new truck a little too fast and aggressively, often between "work sites." Financially successful in the mid-upper rungs of some corporate gig that he always likes to appear as though he is overworked by. Has a dumb cabin that's a manboy toy repository that he thinks people love to come to but they actually don't. Has "the good fireworks" on 4th of July. Vapid wife named Teagan and two accessories aged 6 and 4 named Hunter and Keely. The gun(s) are just the cherry on top of a disastrous psychospiritual existence that thinks the work of attaining wisdom can be summarily replaced with manic materialism.
I remember one called "gun control debate so we don't screw up the Parkland thread" or some such but can't find it now
I was looking for one. I’m just amazed we’re gone long enough to not be back on a mass shooting in this county
These Pro-gun vs Anti-gun arguments have been going on for about 2-3 days in this thread. If that’s all we have to talk about, I presume no children have been murdered at school in the interim, maybe our country is fixed. Or maybe since it’s been a couple of days we’re overdue for another tragedy. Another tragedy with the only common denominator being the use of a gun. Though sadly a large section of our country continues to view that common denominator as irrelevant.
It's unfortunate that all armed robberies don't turn out like this. We just had two recent cases where the victims complied and still got shot and killed. So needless.
Ok this is the last time I'm going to post on the topic, I tried to let it go but people keep quoting me and calling me out and (imo) misstating the point I was making. I am not defending gun ownership or our horrendous gun laws or saying the proliferation of guns in America isn't an epidemic that has poisoned us to our core (it is and it has). The ONLY point I was making was that the logic behind dbl's statement that I quoted (you've never had to pull a gun on someone so carrying one around for a hypothetical situation you've never been in is stupid) was flawed. Preparing for a hypothetical situation is not stupid just because it hasn't happened to you before. That is the full extent of the point I was trying to make. I am not saying condoms and seatbelts are exactly the same as guns or imply that guns do not pose a unique threat to public safety. That's all I have to say. If you guys want to call me a dipshit some more feel free and I hope you all have a wonderful day and fabulous holiday season regardless.
I think I understand your point. Mass/school shootings are uncommon thus why are we worried about them. It’s therefore hypocritical that we are arguing someone who hasn’t been a victim of gun violence is dumb fir carrying a gun. Do I have that right? But, you’re missing our point. People itt want something done about all gun violence not just mass and or school shootings. All gun violence. We are just discussing mass/school shootings itt because this is the thread dedicated to those subjects. We don’t want more guns we we want less therefore that’s why we think people carrying everywhere is dumb. You guys keep bringing up things that you think are rare to prove a point. But the answer to not getting less STDs isn’t more unprotected sex. The answer to less drunk driving accidents isn’t more drunks on the road. The answer to less car accidents isn’t to drive faster and to have less licensed drivers. You don’t ever say we want less “X” so let’s put more “X” out there with anything other than gun violence. We want less gun violence so let’s arm everyone seems like a stupid solution. Seat belts, condoms, helmets vaccines etc are preventative measures that don’t contribute to the issue they are attempting to stop. Adding more guns to alleviated gun violence is the opposite of that. I have been a victim of gun violence. I have pulled my gun out for self defense. I should be an advocate for the stupidity of Ale’s actions but I can’t because I know individuals with his mindset contribute to the problem.
seat belts and condoms don’t make the problem they are trying to solve worse. A better comparison would be a bullet proof jacket. It’s as ridiculous but it doesn’t make the problem worse.
You're getting way too deep in the weeds and forgetting how analogies work. You could say condoms make STDs worse because it gives a false sense of security to people about preventing STDs.
So the alternative solution is to reduce the availability of Shitty AMC Show machine and what makes it lethal (ammunition), no? Leaving it, because...still cracks me up
This must be an inside joke I don't get. If you're asking about the how to reduce armed robberies? The key is definitely significantly reducing the amount of guns we have in society. I think you may be confusing my argument. I was just pointing out how bad the analogies some of the other posters were making.
There have been some poor ones, but yours was right up there with the worst of them. Thus, I’m not so sure you’re the best arbiter for analogies
honest question do you wish you’d have had a gun? Do you think things would have gone better or worse if you’d have had a gun? No judgment.
Answering for someone else: I’ve been in proximity of shootings (the old spray and pray method) more than once. No, I didn’t want a gun. And it would have been way worse if others did.
I’ve been shot and shot at multiple times. I was honestly asking his opinion. I think more guns make the situation worse but I can understand why someone might think it would be better have one.
I've definitely been in situations where I needed a gun and could have easily been killed as a result of not having one - but I'm still not CCW level of concern about it. Gun in the houses and keeping myself out of some of the dumbass dangerous situations I got myself into when younger seems to be a working strategy. Also we don't have kids and guns are locked up.
