I didn’t take Harrison killing dexter as him giving in to his dark passenger, but instead, ridding himself of it
I liked the season overall and I’m fine with the ending. I did want to get some more Bautista though. Same.
Spoiler: Spoiler was really hoping that girlfriend cop and Angel would show up at the deer site with Harrison. Even thought maybe when the gun shot it wasn’t Harrison but maybe bautista that fired. The only thing I really didn’t like was that Harrison had to leave. Like wtf is he supposed to do? He could have had a good life there.
I don't know, I didn't really love the finale. The first nine episodes were essentially setting up this co-dependency arc of how they needed each other, and then Harrison turns on him in the last scene because he killed Logan? He seemed to have come to grips with how messed up he is, and happy he has something of a solution in managing it with his dad and he gives up all of: 1. Staying in the town, 2. His relationship with his dad, and 3. His coping with the 'dark passenger' all in one decision? He's essentially fucked. The whole season was like a decent plate of fast food, probably better than I expected and kind of did the job but this definitely wasn't a "they stuck the landing!" type finish for me.
was right on Batista re-emerging but expected more than a short phone call scene Harrison’s decision isn’t that sudden if you rewatch his reaction to the Caldwell carving up but I still kind of expected him to follow Dexter. That ending though May have been even less received bc there would be no closure
Good season but the finale/wrap up was incredibly rushed as mentioned. It should have been two seasons, a longer season split in two, or just less filler in some of the early episodes. Harrison finds out about Dexter as the ending to part one, and part two shows Harrison going from Dexter's apprentice to realizing he has to kill him, with the cop GF and Bautista figuring him out. They got that part right, they just tried to do it all in 1.5 episodes which is odd. Also, nit picking, but Matt Caldwell being the reason Dexter falls back into his old ways was pretty weak. He wasn't evil enough to justify it.
More I think about the finale, the worse it gets. Almost as bad as the original one. Maybe worse just because they learned nothing from the first go around. Agree a second season where they're on the run and Harrison slowly realizes he needs to kill Dexter would have been so much better. Bautista got shafted on the reboot, let him and the the cop chase them. Plus they backed themselves into a corner with this being it, they nowhere near established Harrison enough as a character to do a spin off anyone will watch.
Original end was definitely worse but having 10 years of hindsight and only coming up with that ending is arguably just a bad.
Harrison in general was a fairly unlikable character. Don't know if it was the actor, writing, performance, etc. but I really never got sympathetic to the character or liked him. No shot at a spinoff IMO
Lucky guess. It’s quite the plot hole. Along w her pulling off the officer involved shooting lie. How is she gonna create a narrative where she had to shoot him w his own rifle, instead of her gun? Also w tons of Harrison’s foot tracks around. Yada yada. But this show has asked to hand waive much dumber things, so I’m not sweating it too much.
The note saying Jim killed Matt was left by Kurt, right? Saw one writer posit that it was Molly who left it, but she wouldn’t have had the screws? The writing did look kind of girly.
The only way it was Molly was if Kurt forced her to write it before he killed her. I dont remember if he found the screws before or after he killed her off the top of my head
This is another bad plot device. Anonymous note containing the majority of evidence blames Jim/Dexter. Conveniently, a single screw is found at an arson site. From a fire that there is evidence pointing at Kurt for starting. A guy that is outed as a serial killer. That also has an axe to grind with the local sheriff. The whole thing screams Kurt framing Dexter. But for some reason Dexter decides to choke out an innocent cop through a jail cell (who also happens to be an in-shape wrestling coach) just so he can escape charges that will clearly be dropped. They rushed the last 30 minutes so bad it's laughable. They could have done even just one more episode with him released and trying to run but the cop and Bautista team up to hunt him down because they know he's guilty. Harrison kills Dexter when he realizes Dexter is going to kill the Cop/Bautista.
What proof did they have? The screw was easily explained as planted and even the wrestling coach cop said none of it was going to stick.
Did he ever use ketamine in Miami? It was always M99 right? Kind of silly to think Logan would stand right next to the cell too. Same as leaving Saxon alone by himself in S8Ep11 (right before Debra is shot).
Once he knew Bautista was coming up, he probably knew he was kind of screwed. The bigger plot hole, in my opinion, was that Bautista would just openly discuss alternate theories of what would essentially be one of the biggest serial killer cases of all time with not much prodding. I'd have to re-watch the scene but she was like "Did you think Doakes did it?" and he was like "Nah, I think Dexter Morgan did it" which would be pretty crazy without her bringing up anything.
Did we even see Molly get kidnapped/killed or am I just completely forgetting it? I know we saw her body in the bunker coffin thing the last 2 episodes but I can't remember a scene where they implied that she was about to be killed. Her character sucked either way.
Off screen kidnapping and death. We knew nothing before seeing her body. Probably the most shocking part of the season for me
Also what happened to that billionaire guy at the beginning. He was an oil guy or something? edit: saw your next post afterwards
I thought the cameras that caught him originally with Matt were going to come into play there but nope end of show.
I love the show. I forgave the bad original ending. I’ll forgive this one too. But, it doesn’t change the fact that both were bad. They telegraphed everything from the start. Even the shit they didn’t telegraph seemed forced. All of a sudden Batista believes LaGuerta was right about Dexter? There is nothing in the original series that leads you to believe he’d have kept the file right next to him. He didn’t believe her. Harrison all of a sudden turns on his dad. Him having the letter clearly shows he knew something was off in Dexter. The screw? Seriously Dexter kept the screw knew it was in the house and was like fuck it no need to look for evidence that can put me away. Anyway it’s over. Season 4 and 1 deserve better than this. Sad to see it go. Maybe I’ll read the books again to get a better Dexter experience. I agree with those who say this was rushed but sadly I don’t think anything would have made it better. They went in knowing this was the end game and still fucked it up.
Also I just read something (plot hole) that in the original series Dexter uses a different drug to subdue his victims. So when AB looks up ketamine and bay harbor butcher she wouldn’t have found anything to make her believe Dexter was the killer because that’s not what he used. It’s a huge plot hole that they just said fuck it hopefully people forgot what he used.
Also Batista tried to hit on the Chief (already forgot her name) at the hotel the first time they met. Then he said he was a happily married man when she called him in the finale.
But, he isn’t. Batista is a legitimately good guy in the original run. Him cheating would be completely out of character for him.
I caught this too and found this recently: On the other hand, Ketamine can at times be confused with M99 by coroners in autopsies, so it’s possible that Dexter's original series serial killer victim reports mistakenly attributed the drugs in their systems to Ketamine instead of Etorphine.
Good guy at times but I think this is debatable. He put the moves on Lila when she was fresh off the relationship with Dexter. He also seemed a bit overly flirtatious at times, so him acting that way with Angela wasn't really out of character imo.
From the article “There was never any mention or report that the autopsies found Ketamine/M99 in the systems of the Bay Harbor Butcher’s victims. Dexter even damaged the ability to perform more accurate autopsies when he sabotaged the A/C of the building where they were being stored. The idea of the Bay Harbor Butcher drugging victims with M99 wasn’t even brought up again when LaGuerta began investigating Dexter in season 7, so it seems like an odd connection to be the basis of the entire revelation of Dexter being the Bay Harbor Butcher in New Blood.”
lol yeah that's right. I forgot he cheated on his first wife too (think her name was Nina). Good character and probably a dude I'd grab a beer with, but not the most faithful of guys.
he asked Dex if he could date her and he was like “yeah”. I think we are misunderstanding the point C A N E was making. If Batista was willing to cheat when he first met AB why would that have changed in the finale? he cheated once and came clean right away. Batista isn’t a scum bag at all.
