I think I can speak for most of the Ole Miss fan base when I say we welcome this transfer to end this mascot shitshow.
Unless Travis Dye loves college football and thinks he can markedly improve his draft stock playing on an offense with a functional QB where defenses can't focus on him as the sole weapon, then I'm not sure why he would transfer instead of declaring for the draft. He has a substantial resume and isn't getting bigger or faster with another year in college.
He is 5’9” 170. He’s not getting drafted this year or next. This way he can at least get some NIL money.
I don’t understand this stance that unless a kid can improve their draft stock with another year, they shouldn’t stay. I know some coaches like to push the narrative, but it isn’t a good point for everyone. Some kids just want to stay in college another year, play another year of college football, and perhaps earn another degree for free. They shouldn’t be shunned for that desire. It’s as if we’re actively trying to kill the little remaining good in college sports.
I always feel shitty for Marlon Lucky. He was home for the NFL, first RB in ncaa history to rush for 1k and catch 70 balls. Had a second round grade but got talked into staying. Had a down year went undrafted, practice squad invite from the bengals and never got another shot at the nfl.
That sounds like poor advice. If coaches are actively pushing kids toward staying when it makes no sense to, that’s unfortunate. But if a kid wants to stay on his own volition, we shouldn’t be questioning them. It’s a very individual decision.
We are focusing our efforts on a heisman trophy winner, Hornsby would have been a serviceable backup I guess
If west virginia had a tradition whereby fans literally stood at the ready to enter the game, they wouldn't be in such a frenzy to find a qb
