PM me if you have any issues getting a reservation at Bestia - I can't imagine it will be an issue on a Wednesday but just fwiw.

The vandalism and robberies are getting pretty out of hand in what used to be nice areas of LA.

City is doing absolutely nothing - it's literal organized crime robbing businesses and individuals in broad daylight. Fully expecting a disaster at some point as I know several business owners, employees (not mine, would never allow that inside a venue), and just people looking to go to lunch/dinner that were die-hard anti-gun and are now regularly carrying.

And......now we have a potential bomb standoff in BH. Been quite the 24 hours of crime in Weho and BH.

Went to Bestia Wednesday night. Great meal. Loved the vibe. Had “Angel on the Coast” cocktail. Possibly my favorite cocktail ever. May try to recreate it.

That warehouse arts district area was pretty cool. Saw some kids riding scooters through skid row. Hope they knew what they were doing.

It's good - but they've had a lot of staffing issues so I might hold off a bit on it especially this time of year.

To clarify - getting fully staffed, not that the did anything wrong.

I've had several chef friends tell me Bicyclette (Manzke that did Church & State and Republique) is legit but haven't been yet.

Definitely want to go check out Horses (used to be the Pikey) - have some friends over there and a James Beard chef that used to be at Freedman's and Catbird Seat.

For whatever reason we handle rain terribly. I was in Charleston, SC earlier this week and it rained all day and life went on. There were some puddles but people were much more equipped to continue living and driving.

Debating going to the super bowl. I have a bunch of Hilton points so would like to use them. All of the good hotels are obviously sold out already. Looks like my options are below. Which one would you pick?

    Burbank
    Santa Monica
    Glendale
    Pasadena
    Universal City
    Culver City

I'd airbnb without a doubt unless you just really want to be in a hotel. There are some pretty dope places available - not sure how familiar you are with LA or which area you're shooting for.

Agreed, those are the only two hotels that are remotely close to Sofi Stadium. You can also take the metro from there to downtown, where I'm sure there will also be Super Bowl events.

I went to an event at SoFi last year and the options for hotels near the stadium were awful. Ended up staying near LAX as I was there for less than 24 hours.

    Yea definitely missed that part.

Party lineup that I've seen so far:

Hwood is doing one at Pacific Design Center with Drake performing
Shaq's funhouse is at The Shrine with Lil Wayne performing, Zedd, Diplo
Maxim party with Tiesto at the City Market (wife is helping organize it)
Bud Light party at the Crypto.com Arena (Staples) with Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani on the 11th
Bud Light party at the Crypto.com Arena with Green Day and Miley Cyrus on the 12th

Obviously there is a ton of other shit going on but those are the big ones I've seen people posting about.

Agree with this take, Culver City is a good option though if there is a huge point difference.

Santa Monica you’ll have to brave the 10 or the redline to get anywhere else, but it shouldn’t be THAT bad on the weekend especially exiting the west side.

Lost cable/internet last night around 8:30, never lost power. Walked outside this morning before sunrise and saw a shingle on the driveway. Fuck... Then I got to thinking that it blew hard enough last night that it might be a neighbor's.

When I got back home I surveyed the damage and my roof looked good. It was the house next door that lost part of it's roof (maybe a half dozen shigles).

Hope all of you didn't have any damage.

Hmm I would still really recommend Santa Monica or Culver City over downtown for both ease of going to the game and generally enjoying the place you are in

Wifey and I are coming out 2/7-2/14. I haven't been in the state in 30 years. My dad was stationed there in the air force. My best friend manages Lucky's in Montecito. Plan is to drive up the PCH Monday morning and stop at a few spots along the way. Then, we stay with him all week. He's got us hooked up with wineries in the area and a Michelin star sushi place.

Will head to the Hollywood Hills Fri, Sat night for an Airbnb. Then a small hotel in Torrance.
I've got a res at Castaway in Burbank for Sat night and Elephante in Santa Monica for Sun lunch (was looking for a view for each). Only other plan is Universal studios on Saturday. (Wife is a Harry Potter fan).

    I'd gladly take recs for:
    1. Places to stop on the PCH
    2. Any other restaurants/craft breweries/tourist traps I need to see in L.A.
    3. Fun night spots for a middle aged married couple for Fri and Sat
    4. Options for the Super Bowl watch that don't cost an arm and a leg to get into.

    TIA

    PCH

-Geoffrey's is great view and good but pricey
-Gladstone's is incredible views, food is 'pretty good'
    -Neptune's Net is good seafood
-Getty Villa is worth exploring a couple hours on your way up if it fits into your schedule

    Other

-Monkish in Torrance is the best craft brewery in LA, and maybe the west coast. Go there for some tastings the night you are in the Torrance hotel or at least pick up some cans to-go
-Highland Park Brewery downtown could be fun the Saturday night you are in Burbank
-Just a bit of a warning, Elephante in Santa Monica is a little 'scene-y.' Full disclosure I have never been there despite living a few blocks away, but its a little more 'IG models brunching' type place. Views are amazing though, but if you're looking for more 'relaxed upscale casual' Ocean Grill or MEAT overlook the Pacific from Ocean
-If you're in Santa Monica Super Bowl sunday, The Whaler is a really good sports bar on Ocean and Broadway that just opened up. Not sure what kind of line they will have to get in (especially if the Rams are playing) but could be fun if you're in Santa Monica

Guessing you're going to Sushi Bar. We went to the one in Encino and it's a pretty great experience, it's only like 6-8 seats, takes 2-3 hours and they talk you through everything as they make it.

Casa Agria brewery isn't far off the PCH on your way up there and well worth the stop. Also it's owned by a fellow Mainboarder VTA

Yamashiro is touristy, a little scene-y and the food isn't anything special (although much better than I expected) but it is close to your Airbnb really is a perfect LA type place and has great views https://yamashirohollywood.com/

You probably won't have a lot of time to do much else if you're doing lunch in Santa Monica (as previously posted, not a fan of Elephante either)then heading to Torrance. Agree with the post that Monkish is the brewery in the area by far but it's not really a place where people will be watching the Super Bowl. Everything else in Torrance is going to mostly be chain restaurants. Maybe look at the beach cities (Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan) for diner/spot to watch the game. Just heads up, Hermosa is super bro-ish.

Monkish has an indoor area with about 10 tables right by the brewing equipment that has two TVs and an outdoor area they instituted post-COVID with about a dozen tables. Agree with you that its probably not the greatest place to watch the Super Bowl, but would be on and pretty casual. I misunderstood his post though and thought the night he was in Torrance was a random night. If he's staying in Torrance, likes craft brews, and doesn't go to Monkish, though, he's missing out.

    2. What type/genre of restaurant are you shooting for?
    3. What would you consider a fun spot for y'all - like lively bar, more casual, or more party esque?
    4. If you were still at the airbnb I'd tell you to come by one of my spots but since you'll already be at the beach and heading to Torrance it wouldn't make any sense to head back to Hollywood so I'd check out the beach cities on the way - there should be quite a few good sports bar options that won't be crazy expensive.

I lived right next to your Air BnB location for six years ha.

I don't know if the Comedy Store is fired back up completely yet, but getting a couple drinks at somewhere casual on Sunset then going to a show is always a fun weekend night that you can walk to

I'm not sure if it's as busy as it was pre-covid but there's no restrictions preventing them from using all the space/capacity so it's probably pretty much back.

    3. Lively and/or casual. We've got kids so our hard partying shoulder to shoulder days are behind us but we both like people watching. Live music is great but not necessary.
    4. We'll need a place to hangout Fri and Sat nights after a meal. I'd love to see one of your places and if we can't find anything, we are happy hanging on the Airbnb patio watching the city. Aka, very easy to please.
