thats Mike Ryan’s entire point(which he then let get overtaken by his Arky Twitter beef) Miami has been very open and transparent that they got turned down by Candle. This all started when Briles agent told McMurphy he had turned the job down when Miami didn’t even have an answer back from Candle yet and Briles was using early conversations with Mario as leverage with Arky. There’s definitely a Ryan-McMurphy beef over the AD search and Diaz firing and then weirdo Arky people got in the middle of it. In this instance everyone involved is being a loser, especially Ryan and Briles McMurphy should work on getting some better sources in Miami, maybe he can call our AD Eddie Nunez
I wish I cared enough to rub it in Miami’s faces but I truly wish they would have taken him from us. the spin after the fact is just an embarrassment.
Candle was still sitting on our offer when the story leaked from McMurphy that Briles had also been offered the OC job, only to 'turn it down' two hours later. There's been no denial that Mario spoke to Briles about the job but the whole thing reeks of leverage play given the sequence of events.
Idk why this is so important for y’all to continue to deny. We’ve been turned down by several coaches in the past too, it’s ok to admit.
The briles thing is very funny to me with embarrassments all over the place, but I still can't believe he jumped into the twitter argument with two beat writers or bloggers or whatever those guys are.
He and Odom were always going to get an extension and raise this year. Turning Miami down as leverage wasn’t going to change that, they’ve both been here two years and it was time to extend them both. Same with Pittman
yeah definitely like that hire, and despite him looking like he works in IT so far has been a decent recruiter
Imagine thinking having additional people on your staff is a bad idea. It would be bad for business to just name them Bagman 1, Bagman 2, etc.
I would have preferred “this guy can’t possibly be worse than the last guy special teams coordinator” if he really wanted to excite the fanbase
He’s an odd dude, I imagine coaches are just trying to capitalize on some positive momentum and get away from him. Ole Miss will be just fine on offense as long as he’s there though.
This was going to happen eventually, it just happened a year sooner than we expected. Harsin was always going to promote his guy. It was pretty clear when he gave him the Ast HC title. It does suck going from expecting Karl Dunbar or some NFL DL coach to now settling for Jimmy Brumbaugh. He's coached some good players, but most people agree he's a lazy recruiter and the state of Alabama is loaded with DL in 2023. Oh well, with Harsin we were likely going to whiff anyways
How about the fact that Lane hired his brother Chris Kiffin. A dude who had a show clause because of the Laremy Tunsil situation.
We're about to get a front row seat to Lane's ability to develop guys that are in his program. Don't think it will go well considering he absolutely wants out of Oxford.
Are we? He already has 8 portal commits and they seem to lead for several more. I have a feeling that will be his game every year. he'll probably do pretty well with it imo
“Game changer coordinator” is corny although every college team has some corniness involved in its approach to spec teams to motivate the middle part of their roster to contribute more Re: the other roles on staff I think this is evidence Napier has put a lot of thought into the type of program he wants to run and he’s not just swapping out the logo on the Alabama program and clicking “Save As”
Ole Miss has hit their absolute modern ceiling a few times recently and it's still "don't make the SECCG". Considering the number of his assistants that are leaving the program. I don't know if Lane is a lock for repeating success.
