What is the expectation with the season and season schedule? I was planning a trip to wrigley but completely forgot about the lockout
We don’t know, there isn’t even a schedule for the sides to negotiate at this point. Prevailing thought is they’ll start talking in February.
I'll be surprised if they're playing real games at the start of June at this point. Only way I can see that is if this whole thing has been a bluff by the players, and they might as well pack it up and leave if that's the case.
My schedule is going to be really busy this year so not sure if I'll be able to go anywhere, but would be able to go to a White Sox away series in April (would be to KC). I doubt that will be happening :(
Since the HoF ballot results come in tomorrow, how would you vote? If I had a ballot, I think this is how I'd vote it, in no order: Barry Bonds Roger Clemens A-Rod Big Papi Scott Rolen Billy Wagner Gary Sheffield Andruw Jones Todd Helton Curt Schilling Would really want to find a way to get Jeff Kent in there, but not over any of those others. If I took any of the steroid users off it would be Bonds (because he treats people like shit), A-Rod (see Bonds, Barry), and Clemens (affair with a 16 year old )
I think they should all be in. Yet another archaic baseball process that's always been stupid since the mid 60s.
Barry Bonds Roger Clemens Alex Rodriguez Sammy Sosa David Ortiz Andruw Jones Todd Helton Gary Sheffield Manny Ramirez Scott Rolen With Billy Wagner the first guy left off. Omar Vizquel is an immediate no. Dude sucks. And I'm not voting for Schilling because he's a piece of shit.
So the players withdrew a bit and made a more realistic offer. The next offer from MLB will tell us if there's a chance for baseball in April, or if this is going until July or later. My money is on July or later.
I get that MLB wants to keep costs down, but if you introduce something like $800k year one, $900k year two, $1M year three, isn't the PA immediately dropping the "arb after 2 years" thing? Yes, you're adding money to payrolls, but doing it in a cost controlled way instead of creating more scenarios for higher salaries in arb or FA. And in the process, you're putting a ton of pressure on the PA by including something that would benefit so many more players than anything else at the table.
Let's split the difference and put $100M in the pre-arb high WAR pool and call the minimum wage $750k
No. They agreed to the idea of creating a pool for pre-arbitration players. They then offered $95M less than what players asked for.
I read these stories every time MLB makes a "proposal" and wonder how I missed the news that Darryl Morey was hired to take over negotiations on MLB's behalf
The HOF is a fucking joke if Ortiz gets in on the first ballot and two of the greatest players of all time fall off the ballot
Just such a stupid organization. Complete joke how they treat it as some sanctimonious hallowed ground when it is filled with so many pieces of shit. Along with players who abused stuff like amphetamines and such.
between this and the universal dh it’s clear this sport is in its final death spiral thank god we got a title before the end
Ortiz tested positive, is a bit statistically overrated (similar to Jeter), and didn't play defense. And he gets in on the first ballot while Bonds doesn't? Awful
Cant they do something like have former HOF’ers or a committee of former players and coaches vote? This is such a joke
they do but there are a bunch of old fucks on that too they’ll make it eventually but it’ll take a while for the olds to die
So dumb. Change the damn process. Bunch of stuffy old white men make the wrong choice for baseball related voting. I am shocked.
I'm at the point where I'm more confused by some the strong stances for Bonds/Clemens either way. I'd probably vote for both of them and Schilling because I don't view the HOF as some sacred place where only the most virtuous can be enshrined. I actually kind of think it's important to document that some of the best players are assholes and/or cheaters, too. But I also don't really give a fuck that none of them are in because of what they did (Clemens and Schilling, especially), and it's hard for me to get mad at people who don't vote for them simply because they view the HOF different from me. This isn't a merit argument where people don't realize how good someone was. This is an impossible situation where there are no correct answers.
