Lol "getting the first call they made to take the job" is almost unanimously a good thing in any industry, but when it comes to position coaches, the Kelly era has us thinking we're just going to get a lump on a log
I get it but I have never heard of this guy or Washington until they hit NDs radar so thinking they are good or not comes down to fans of their last teams around here. They could be fantastic or they could fail, but having them at positions recruiting well isn’t like the WR coach which isn’t a close hire is probably as safer bet.
If it was Saban first call he’s already be lined up for head coaching positions, and of course I get the difference.
I don't like how Freeman is now getting a staff of his buddies this early in his career- Mason, Washington, Laurinitis, Mickens, and now Parker (That's maybe more than Kelly ever had). However I do love the projected offensive staff on paper so fuck it
Mason is really fucking good. Washington is also. Not sure why he was hired to coach LB's at OSU James L is on support staff so who cares Mickens was here before Freeman Parker - don't know shit about him
Mason and Washington are both regarded even outside of ND as home run hires. SEC programs were trying to get Washington. Sometimes your buddies are also the best candidates. Should you just turn them away because of the optics? He certainly went outside of his circle for Stuckey and McCullough, and is sure to do the same for DC. Thoros is right. BK scarred and scared the fan base.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerad_Parker give a gander to this page, specifically the time he spent at UC. would they really offer him the job?
Wait, just to be clear - was Parker let go from West Virginia or did Notre Dame nab an Offensive Coordinator from a Power 5 school and convince him to take a demotion to TE coach? Not arguing that West Virginia Offensive Coordinator is anything to write home about.....
He was co-coordinator and apparently didn't call plays, so it was probably a title to allow for a raise somewhere along the line.
Little column A little column B, at our hinted at pay rate money is probably a wash even as just TE coach.
I honestly don’t hate the Parker hire. Plus it’s the one position at ND that seemingly takes care of itself, so it’s not a huge deal even if he isn’t great. That said, the hiring processes - as reported, which needs to be taken with a grain of salt in itself - for both this hire and the WR hire were reminiscent of a staff without much hiring experience. So if either of those don’t work out, there’s going to be some lost trust. But c’est la vie.
After long researches, Gérard is such a shitty fucking name and I hate his face. did he ever coach tes? I guess my research skills are not great
we probably did, ND reportedly had that kid from Stanford ready to transfer in but he went pro instead
lol fuck that loser. However, they should show-cause Kelly for it. Pickett in our O would have been fun as hell though
Washington coached LBs at OSU because our DL coach Larry Johnson is one of the best position coaches and recruiters we have ever had. Maybe Washington does better coaching DL for ND. He was fairly mediocre at OSU.
Schefter is Michigan guy. Immediately trying to spin it positive that Jim said this isn't gonna be a yearly thing
Oh I know about LJ. Just puzzled by adding a career DL coach to coach LBs at OSU when you guys could have your pick of the litter.
Basketball on the precipice of a big comeback win even if both teams looked pretty shaky tonight Don't know how Miami beat Duke and is 8-2 in conference
We overhauled the defensive staff when Day took over. Only LJ survived (just like this year). Hafley was seen as young/inexperienced as a DC so Mattison came in as a co-DC from Michigan along with Washington. Day had coached with Hafley and Washington before, so we put Washington at LB with Hafley in the secondary. It worked really well in 2019, then 7 starters on that D were drafted and it’s been a complete shit show on defense since.
