No, you highlight it. That’s what college should be. Nd is a place where you learn from the best and become the best to go into the world as an elite person into whatever field you like. beist i definitely can recruit
I mean Bama has been doing this for the last 15 years. Kiffin, Sark, Napier, Kirby Smart, Jim McElwain. I could go on. That’s a good thing
Yeah I’m all for position coaches and coordinators moving up. Head coach is where I’d like to think ND is a final stop for, but we know that’s no longer the case. But position coaches and coordinators moving up is a sign of a good program. Then it’s on you to make the next right move
Yeah, I’m in no way opposed to ND becoming a spot for hot young assistants to grow. coaches are cool too.
so true, either he becomes too hot and gets a crazy offer or he sucks and he is gone(in that scenario he would still get good offers). i have never seen anything like this, the guy is almost as popular as Pam anderson in the late 90’s
Wanting autonomy over the offense and then get bus-drivered into a TE coach probably didn’t feel so great.
Tommy and Buchner have a great year, Tommy takes NFL OC gig, Deland promoted to OC. I feel like that’s a good path, assuming he’s the real deal. Freeman would probably promote his boy instead.
Yeah, I’m enjoying everyone jumping on the Parker hire like freeman forced him on everyone. For all we know Tom was all about it too. The main dudes not having sources is leaving a vacuum that is being filled with assumptions based on the last guy.
i fuckin love ND, but if you offered me 2+ million a year to be OC at fuckin miami i may give that a second of consideration
It has nothing to do with the last guy. The process around that hire was very unique compared to the others. Driskell reported Freeman completely made the call and Rees didn’t get any input. He actually didn’t think that was a big deal. Couple days later, Rees - who seemingly has connections to tons of reporters - is out of nowhere up for a few different jobs. Reading between the lines here, he’s not super happy at the moment. We’ll see if it’s real or just a moment. Will he leave? Does it honestly matter much if he does? All up for debate. But pretty clear trust was shaken in the last week.
Seriously you give me that offer when I was 29 before my kid and I’m gone. I’d wear my ND shirt under my Miami gear every Saturday.
Couple tidbits from Loy: -Rees was in Miami yesterday, there was a point yesterday where people thought he was leaning towards taking the offer - Loy said he doesn’t expect the Rams to go after him for their OC job - Rees did not try to leverage Miami to get more money out of ND a la Elko.
- He has the right to be sensitive. Ultimately, the guy turned down hundreds of thousands of dollars for more autonomy. If he feels like he isn’t getting it, feeling slighted is natural. - He’s a sub-30 single millionaire. I’m not sure maturity and perspective are things he has in bulk right now. - He also needs to understand that he’s widely replaceable As with all things, there’s multiple sides to the story and shades of gray here. I just hope Freeman is getting personally involved with recruiting the big time offensive guys. It’s a natural hedge just in case Rees isn’t here come next Signing Day.
Everybody’s sources are lacking. It’s clear not many outside the coaches themselves know what’s really going on right now.
Also here’s my guess: Miami appears to have made like 3 or 4 OC offers and missed on them- UM more emboldened to go after other top OC’s UM tells Rees we want to “interview you”- obviously it’s hinted through agents that offer could be 2.0+ million a year I think Rees makes 1.4ish now after the raise Rees tells freeman shit I might as well go an listen- Freeman himself just was going through this. I’m sure Freeman was unhappy but understood Rees leaves shitty snowy ass South Bend, visits Miami- they offer big bucks. Of course he’s now interested he sleeps it off, decides to stay in South Bend UM throws same deal at Gattis- timeline on Gattis is vague was he also in Miami at the same time as Rees? Did Gattis just accept before Rees could?
I'm sure Rees wants it getting out he was close and he was interested - for his own leverage, fans knowing he is 'loyal', etc. I'm also not completely sure he's out after this year. I can't really imagine him leaving Jr Year Buchner/Diggs/Alt/Fisher/Styles class for another OC job or a very ho-hum non P5 offer and I'm not sure he gets P5 HC looks or solid NFL OC looks next year. I may be wrong though, but I think if he stays two more years he's looking at his choice of NFL OC jobs or mid-level P5 jobs if that's what he wants
I wouldn't say it's no longer the case. Kelly was here 12 years. Things had gone stale and it was honestly probably time on both sides. The LSU offer came at the right time for him. ND may have been able to fight to keep him and chose not to. Kelly got serious interest from the NFL early on and stuck it out. ND is still a final destination type of a job for head coaches. But that doesn't mean the time can't be right to move on.
I could see him leaving for an NFL OC gig or a good CFB HC job. But yeah, this was probably the dangerous year to lose him as a CFB OC.
Anyway guys, I will just go sit by the fire with a bourbon in hand and hope that my dad wakes me up tomorrow with a multi million offer to coordinate nd’s offense.
In a macro sense, sure, but at this point in time and for this program.... he's got a fuckton of leverage. I'm not saying its impossible for ND to find an equal or better replacement, but I think there's far more downside than there is upside in a world where Freeman has to take on that challenge in February 2022. I think at this point the best case scenario with Rees is he gives Freeman one great year as OC, then moves on to be a college HC and establishes himself as first on the list as Freeman's replacement.
It wouldn't at all- Rees isn't buying a mansion on the water. Dude would be renting in a big amenity high rise like all the other tech bros in Miami No income tax in Florida either
if rees turns buchner into an all american, he's going to have his choice of OC gigs in the NFL. he would have been fucking stupid to do it, but he's 29, who didn't do stupid shit at that age? i'm just glad he's staying
Why is anyone concerned about Rees. Any team with a pulse , ND offense was predictable and ineffective at best. Rees isn’t a great recruiter or coordinator , one would think ND fans would be excited for his departure
the peanut butter is not for everyone, but I kind of dig it. it’s probably the texture that throws you off
