Izzy is in a weird stage where there’s no other 185 to really challenge him, but he isn’t beating Glover or Prochazka if he goes to 205. And of course Jan already beat him.
It's sort of a weird tradition, it has to be like not even a contest to be 10-8 or a point has to be deducted.
Usman just isn’t big enough. Hes need to add about 20 pounds of muscle to his lower body and that ain’t happening at his age.
It’s based on boxing scoring. And I think giving the judges more leeway would open a can of worms. What happens when one judge scores a round 10-7 and then a judge comes back 10-8 the other way?
Yeah and I'm not the one getting punched in the mouth so it's easy for me to say, but he was trying to snipe a superior sniper. Said at the end he thought he did enough to win. He did better but he's never going to beat him at range.
There are guidelines and with the knockdown it could have been a 10-8 but Whittaker wasn't down for long and never in any real trouble
Why not just 1-0 then? Just always seems a little silly it’s 10-9 every round, even if a round is way more slanted than the next. I also don’t really follow fighting, just always wondered.
Hope you guys made some money tonight. Dobson/Hernandez stung, but the rest was pretty on point. Fattened my bankroll for Riviera next week.
It's the 10-9 must system. It's archaic and sucks. Basically a favorable round would be 10-9, a one knockdown round would be 10-8, a two knockdown round would be 10-7, and anything else would be an anomaly. It stuck when they were starting MMA scoring and there wasn't really another way to score.
i thought whittaker looked decent at least . adesanya just has some weird body type where he has crazy power at that weight, but he's like 6 inches taller than everyone else
his body doesn’t present a big target to strike combine that with his defense and it seems like it’s going to be a awesome wrestler that gives him issues
Na Izzy clearly won that fight. He wasn't super active and it was kinda boring but that happens. It sucks to see a guy like him and Jones, or even Mayweather in boxing, win a fight with that style, but I can't blame them for going that route gives them the best chance to win that fight. As long as Izzy didn't get to the ground in a bad spot, he was going to win that fight so I can't blame him for being cautious and avoiding that.
Izzy is mostly a counter puncher, right? I know he sits behind his jab a lot too. It’s easy to get a wrestler in there until they realize he’s legit 6’4 with an 80 inch reach. He switches stances and feints nonstop. He’s got more weapons than anyone in the division. Chimaev is about the only one who is coming for that belt imo
Do you get rewarded for a “takedown” if it doesn’t result in anything? Izzy never seemed in any immediate danger from the takedowns.
his urgency after being talked down reminds me of you aldo it’s weird how certain guys can just refuse to stay down no matter how good the wrestler
Over the past year or two they’ve done a better job of not rewarding guys for fluff takedowns and clinches. Used to seem like every card there’d be a guy who clearly lost the striking battle but would force a worthless takedown to steal the round. Now you actually have to control your opponent on the ground or do damage. Whittaker’s takedowns last night were a perfect example. Impressive he got them but they did not impede izzy at all. The thing is a one one knockdown round is never scored 10-8 in UFC and I can’t remember ever seeing a 10-7 round. UFC judges need to see someone get destroyed to score 10-8, think Sean OMalley vs the punching bag on the last McGregor/Poirier card. When people commit fouls there are Point deductions. Sometimes they deduct two points. So a guy could win a round but also have an incidental eye poke and groin strike. So the score would be -1 to 0? How’s that better than 8-9?
I don’t even care about take downs just for control. Still have to do damage. like I applaud you for making the fighter fight your fight and giving yourself the best chance to win. But you still have to go win. I’d applaud USC for not letting a UGA team blow the doors off them by playing ball control and keeping them out of the end zone. But that doesn’t factor into the final score at all. USC still has to score more points.
“Of course there was talk about the takedowns but in the new unified rules of mixed martial arts, in a very close fight, a takedown unless you use it to pass guard, advance position, do damage or look for submissions, that it’s just classified as a change of position. It doesn’t affect the scorecard.” -Bisping
I think more that he quit. Honestly it doesn't look like a KO strike to me bc it's so short but maybe it was placed perfectly and they are huge dudes idk.
I'm trying to remember(I really need to cut back on the lettuce I think) but hadn't he just about KO'd Tai right before this? Why would he quit?
37 year old who has been through wars can get KOd easier than a fresh 25 year old. Breaking news I know
