Russia going broke and unraveling puts Putin in a very desperate position and that is scary. I have a feeling one way or another we are going to have to face a nuclear threat.
This will be, as it always will be, his choice. We can’t prevent that if that’s going to be his ultimate play.
kind of what I was saying a few pages ago. He gets backed into a corner and feels he can use a tactical nuke and we will be so afraid of escalating into all out nuclear war that he is able to get his seat at the table back I don’t think it will come to that, but I also don’t think we can 100% rule it out
and at that point we’ll get to find out what our taxes have been paying for in 3 decades in terms of defense systems
So was Germany waiting out the first couples days just to make sure it wasn’t going to be a quick victory?
ever since I was a little kid and learned about nuclear war, I always assumed since centcom was down the street from me I would be safe. Never took the time to look up if that was anywhere close to realistic
Imagine the hell on earth that would erupt here if I couldn't pay for my popeyes spicy chicken sandwich with plastic. Don't even want to think about it
You can look up locations of missile silos in the US for a good idea of targets. I want to say Kansas may have the most continuous space between locations. Probably the safest spot from which to enjoy the nuclear winter.
Area on the Florida-Georgia border near Jacksonville would be in danger as well if anyone’s concerned.
In my head, I feel like cities would be nuked first, but I don’t know why you wouldn’t target farmland/pastures. Take out the food supply and let the people in cities kill each other for resources
Fixed silos and command and control are the first targets. You neutralize the enemy’s capacity to counter if you can. You can’t, but you try.
I would be beyond shocked if we did not reach out to them beforehand about the SWIFT sanctions against Russia and come to an agreement. It’s entirely possible that Xi has realized he gravely miscalculated on this little adventure he sanctioned and is looking for a way out.
we only need strong, masculine crops that uphold the gender binary. These will surely survive nuclear winter
I remember watching a BBC movie called "Threads" back in the 90's. It was about nuclear war. It was on YouTube for free, but I caution you on watching it (especially in this environment) because it will scare the fucking hell out of you
I was discussing this with the wife last night. In reading stuff from those involved with planning during the Cold War, the idea wasn’t to just hit major metropolitan areas, it was to ensure we never recovered from the strike. Russians were expected to target most military bases, power plants, logistical hubs, dams, airports, technological centers, factories, anything which could be valuable to us helping to rebuild. It’s really bleak actually. If it ever happened I am going to try and get us to South America as quickly as possible.
