I dislike the Doudrop name for multiple reasons, but the ambiguous pronunciation is really annoying. Is it Doodrop or Dowdrop?
Butch is never going to be WWE champ. Pete Dunn is never going to be WWE Champ. The name isn't going to be the reason why he won't ever lead the company
But why not keep the name that he got over with at a place owned by the same company? It’s not like these are indies or ROH dudes. Dressing a badass from NXT like a 1930s newsie is begging him to fail.
It's a terrible name, Shawn. Didn't realize this was a dickwaving contest for the ultimate worst. Doudrop isn't even in the same universe as The Viking Experience.
His original name fit the look they went for too which is sad. It's always crazy how small these NXT guys look next to the mammoths Vince has assembled on the main roster. Even early into AEW I was surprised how big Mox and Cody seemed compared to a lot of the talent.
Glad E is going to be OK, he's like one of the best people in the biz. Would be tragically unfair if that shit was worse.
At least those are real words instead of apparently pulling letters out of a hat to come up with Doudrop
Pete Dunne could be IC or US. Butch has been pretty well covered by now. You seem to be the only one defending the change.
Let's look at the following wrestlers that have won championships, including defunct championships. since the 90s (excluding the 24/7 and Hardcore title because you can't take those seriously) and had dumbass names. Ryback Bad News Barrett The Mountie - and at leas this made sense for the gimmick, it's just that the whole gimmick was dumb R-Truth Carlito Caribbean Cool - lol what the fuck is this? Hornswoggle Nunzio Mideon Hervina Bertha Faye That's the list. The lesson? If you want someone to be taken seriously as anything more than a midcard jobber, you don't give them a dumbass name.
I don't think a name matters. Sure i'll laugh at some of this shit but the name isn't making or breaking any act. Luchasuraus is hella over and a champion Orange Cassidy is super over Stupid names are all over professional wrestling.
Neither are presented as the third lackey and dressing as a news delivery boy. Names and presentation matter whether you like it or not. Jungle Boy and Orange Cassidy chose those names and their gimmicks fit the names. You saying Pete Dunne chose Butch?
This, if someone gets a bad name in WWE they are generally going to get treated like a midcard jobber rather they get over or not. Hell, Big E won the damn WWE Championship and has already been relegated back to the midcard. You think they going to give a guy named fucking Butch a fair chance?
Have you watched NXT before? He dresses like that all the time. It’s probably why they paired him with Ridge and Shamus. This isn’t the first time he got paired with Ridge they were a faction in NXT. He wasn’t presented as lackey. In fact they put him over on commentary really strong and he beat down Kofie post match. And yes, I’m sure he had a say in his new ring name. Everyone does for the most part.
Yes his name is why he dropped the tittle so quickly and not the fact he looked uncomfortable in his role and character as champ. I guess Vince forgot his name prior to giving him the title and once he was reminded it was Big E, booked him to lose it! Genius.
It's not the name that makes the wrestlers treated poorly. It's a status symbol. It's Vince telling the talent they are going to be booked like shit no matter what they do.
I’m her the say that pics don’t do Samantha Irvin justice. She is gorgeous in person https://instagram.com/samanthairvinwwe?utm_medium=copy_link
I don’t have the energy. Butch has a strong future with WWE and he’s been presented extremely well. He is in no way a third wheel to ridge and sheamus and he will soon totally not eat pins in the group. I’m super excited for the future and can’t wait to see how E presents this dynamic new addition to the main roster.
Jungle Boy and Cassidy kept the names they had. Butch is garbage and no amount of cheerleading by bankz will make it better, but watching him try and act like this is normal is hilarious.
Never a truer word was spoken - Revolution was friggin' awesome. I'll post a proper summary of the matches later today, but there were at least 4 brilliant matches on the card. Haven't seen that in a loooong while.
Comments on Revolution 2020: SCU vs Dark Order (pre-show) - I think I like SCU as much as I dislike Dark Order, so I had mixed thoughts about this one. Decent match, but probably in the right place on the card. Jake Hager vs Dustin Rhodes - If I ever see another fucking Jack Swagger match, it'll be too soon. One of the few ill-advised pick ups from WWE - the guy sucks. That said, the match was okay, I guess. Sammy Guevara vs Darby Allin - I love both these guys. They are friggin' guns and they put on an amazing show. Might have been match of the night, if not for... Omega/Page vs Young Bucks - So normally, I'm not a fan of two singles stars being tag champs, but these guys show how to make it work. And I know it was Feb, but this was an easy MOTY contender. The single best AEW match I have seen so far. Nyla Rose vs Kris Statlander - First time I've seen someone butcher the flip up from a lying position. KS just did not seem ready for such an important match. Bit of a stinker. MJF vs Cody - It's weird how most of Cody's matches feel like they could be from WWE, but I guess that's just his style of storytelling. I probably enjoyed this more than the others, but I'd put that more down to MJF. PAC vs Orange Cassidy - This was the funniest match I've seen in years. I know how good PAC is, but damn, Cassidy is awesome. He does things so effortlessly and skilfully - I hope he gets his due rewards in the future. Jericho vs Moxley - Now THAT'S the title match I'd been after. Both guys delivered - It's probably the best performance I've seen from Mox. Great way to end the show. Easily AEW's best event so far and was only let down by a couple of dull matches that couldn't keep up with the A class performers. 8.5/10
Changed or not they are shit. I’m making no case that Butch is a good name change. It’s just a nothing burger in the grand scheme of things. On the main roster his ceiling is a mid carder maybe a IC/US title run at times. Had he stayed as Pete Dunne his ceiling is still a IC/US title run and a mid carder. You idiots overreacting is what I’m calling out.
Terrible news on Scott Hall. He has lived a rough life but seemed to be doing better in recent years. https://www.pwtorch.com/site/2022/0...-after-health-complication-after-hip-surgery/
In all this name change conversation I can’t believe the Seth Freakin’ Rollins hasn’t been brought up. That’s by far the worst. I only really watch the PPVs anymore but they literally say the whole thing Everytime it is so stupid
