did anybody here the Vinny Cerrato interview with Eric Hansen?

Cerrato turned down a commitment from Tony Boselli because he thought he would never be big enough to play OT (he was a TE in high school)....just crazy. We could have had Boselli lined up next to Aaron Taylor

Loy said Braylon James has chosen to announce on 4/19...will be great to get momentum rolling for BG game weekend

out of the last 3 classes, I'd rank him third behind Merriwether and Lo Styles but he is a top 100 guy and will be a massive pickup for ND

Singer's prediction for next 5 commits

It’s been nearly two months since Notre Dame landed a new commitment for its 2023 class. On Feb. 11, Lawrence (Mass.) Central Catholic linebacker Preston Zinter made his pledge to the Irish — the most recent commit for Notre Dame.

There have only been two new commitments this calendar year for Notre Dame. Who could be the next five to join the class? BlueandGold.com takes a look.

Prospects are listed in alphabetical order.

Cambridge (Mass.) Buckingham Browne & Nichols School ATH Ronan Hanafin
I logged my prediction for Ronan Hanafin, the nation’s No. 400 player and No. 19 “athlete” per the 2023 On3 Consensus, back on Feb. 10. Hanafin has seen his recruiting stock soar since, adding offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson and Miami in addition to already having Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State and others on his offer sheet. Notre Dame offered him last November and have hosted him on campus three times already. Despite adding offers from the Crimson Tide and Tigers, I’m still projecting Hanafin to end up siding with the Irish. Sources on the Notre Dame side of things feel this one could be wrapped up in the Irish’s favor by the start of the summer.

Rock Island (Ill.) Alleman OL Charles Jagusah
Minutes after Blue & Gold moved to On3 on Jan. 1, I placed my pick for Charles Jagusah — who On3 rates as a five-star recruit — to choose the Irish. Jagusah is visiting Notre Dame this weekend, which will be his second time on campus. It’s huge news as the Irish look to land their first offensive line pledge in the 2023 cycle. Notre Dame sources feel great about where the Irish stand with Jagusah, but there’s no telling when he will make a decision. It could be next week or three months from now. We tend to believe that it’ll be sooner than later.

Del Valle (Texas) High WR Braylon James
Ranked as the nation’s No. 109 player and No. 19 wide receiver per the On3 Consensus, Braylon James would be a big get for Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish surged in James’ recruitment after Chansi Stuckey was hired as ND’s new receivers coach, and James is the top candidate to become commitment No. 10 for head coach Marcus Freeman. Although James has discussed wanting to stretch his recruitment into the summer and take official visits, it appears that the four-star playmaker will make a commitment sometime this month. Notre Dame is considered the team to beat.

Lake Stevens (Wash.) High RB Jayden Limar
I also predicted Jayden Limar to land at Notre Dame a few weeks ago, and even with our report this morning that Notre Dame is hosting 2022 running back Gi’Bran Payne, a former Indiana signee, for an official visit this weekend, we still believe the Irish would be happy to add Limar to its 2023 class. Limar is visiting Notre Dame for the Blue-Gold game April 23, and it may be soon after that when he pops in favor of the Fighting Irish. Limar ranks as the nation’s No. 265 overall player and No. 15 running back per the 2023 On3 Consensus.

Fort Washington (Md.) DeMatha Catholic DL Jason Moore
My prediction went in for Notre Dame to land Jason Moore on New Year’s Day, and it’s one that I’m feeling better about more than ever. The Fighting Irish staff has made great strides with the nation’s No. 38 prospect and No. 6 defensive lineman per the On3 Consensus in recent weeks and look to be in prime position to land him. He hasn’t taken many recruiting visits at this point in the process and has only been to South Bend once — last October for the North Carolina game. I expect him to be back at Notre Dame sometime this spring, but if not, then he’ll take an official visit in the summer. Whenever Moore visits next, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him choose the Irish soon afterwards.

    Who else was considered?
The most noticeable omission is five-star quarterback Dante Moore. Don’t get me wrong folks — I absolutely believe Notre Dame will land him, but it appears that he’s going to stretch his recruitment into the summer rather than committing in April like we had been hearing was a possibility. With that in mind, I don’t believe he’ll be one of the next five commitments for Notre Dame. If I wrote this article as the five players most likely to pick the Irish, then I would have included Moore on it. Rather, this article looked at the five who I believe could be next for Notre Dame based on their interest in the Irish and timelines.

Four-star cornerback Christian Gray and four-star offensive linemen Sullivan Absher and Austin Siereveld were also considered.

Sinclair posted this article yesterday about how much different ND is recruiting now compared to when BK was in charge

Remember when Notre Dame recruited three-star prospects?

Okay. Maybe that’s an exaggeration. But without question, there are far fewer three-star recruits in the discussion this cycle compared to what we grew accustomed to.

Right now, Notre Dame carries a five-star commitment alongside eight four-star pledges. And among all the 2023 prospects we’re covering due to varying levels of interest, three-star recruits are few and far between.

** Since Brian Kelly’s first class in 2010, Notre Dame has signed an average of 9.3 three-stars per cycle. Over those 13 classes (2010-2022), the Irish signed more than 10 recruits who ranked three-stars in six cycles (2010, 2011, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021).

The lowest total of three-star signings – four – surfaced twice; in the 2013 class led by Jaylon Smith and in the 2022 class featuring Jaylen Sneed.

Those two classes also finished the highest in the national rankings since 2010. With just four three-star recruits in each cycle, Notre Dame finished No. 5 nationally in 2013, and No. 7 nationally in 2022. (The only other Top 10 classes were in 2011 and 2021 when Notre Dame finished at No. 9).

** Up and down the 2023 offer board, you see several collections of prospects at key positions that are exclusively four and five-star recruits. It feels like the only three-stars we’re watching closely are Ronan Hanafin (ATH), Elijah Paige (OL), and Jeremiyah Love (RB). And all three are within roughly 125 spots outside four-star status.

In other words, these are the best-of-the-best three-star recruits.

Hanafin ranks No. 406 overall. In recent days he added Alabama and Clemson to his offer list alongside Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State. Ranked No. 462 overall, Love has been raking in offers from Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, and many others.

He’s a recent riser in terms of national attention. In turn, it won’t be a surprise if Love rises the rankings in the future. And Paige might fit that box too. Ranked No. 505 overall, the Phoenix lineman has picked up 16 offers since late January.

** Looking at the 2023 board, Notre Dame has offered 19 receivers, not a single three-star among them. We can say the same about cornerback (15 offers, zero three-stars), linebacker (15 offers, zero three-stars), and interior offensive line (eight offers, zero three-stars).

Notre Dame is reeling in a new level of talent because there is a greater effort on the recruiting trail and a coaching staff that appears to have more ability in selling the university and its football program. Running parallel with that ability is a new bar that’s been set.

It boils down to successfully pursuing a higher caliber of talent.

The proof is in the data.

Just look at the number of three-star recruits offered in each of these recent recruiting cycles…

    2020: 35

    2021: 42

    2022: 33

    2023: 13

For context, just two cycles ago (the 2021 class), Notre Dame signed 15 three-star recruits. And currently, you can’t find 15 three-star prospects on the 2023 offer board.

    That’s a significant note.

** While the total number of scholarship offers in each of the above-mentioned classes should be noted, it doesn’t change the perception.

Below is the percentage of total offers that were three-star prospects over the last 10 years:

    2013: 22.1% (39 three-stars among 176 offers)

    2014: 23.7% (37 three-stars among 156 offers)

    2015: 28.7% (54 three-stars among 188 offers)

    2016: 25.5% (48 three-stars among 188 offers)

    2017: 30.0% (63 three-stars among 210 offers)

    2018: 27.7% (51 three-stars among 184 offers)

    2019: 24.7% (49 three-stars among 198 offers)

    2020: 21.7% (35 three-stars among 161 offers)

    2021: 26.4% (42 three-stars among 159 offers)

    2022: 18.8% (33 three-stars among 176 offers)

    2023: 8.9% (13 three-stars among 146 offers)

Meanwhile, Crystal Ball predictions are in place from multiple analysts favoring Notre Dame to land various four-star prospects. That includes Jayden Limar (No. 249), Braylon James (No. 76), Charles Jagusah (No. 70), Boubacar Traore (No. 149), and Christian Gray (No. 118).

Could we see a recruiting class made up exclusively of five-star and four-star prospects?

    It certainly seems possible.

To be clear, there are plenty of future college stars and early-round NFL draft picks in the three-star category. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was a three-star recruit. So was Patrick Mahomes.

In the latest CBS Sports NFL Mock Draft, four of the Top 10 picks are former three-star prospects.

However, Georgia’s 2018 recruiting cycle made up its senior class last season. And that 2018 class featured eight former five-stars with just a trio of three-star signings (excluding a punter). Of course, the Bulldogs won the national championship.

    Recruiting matters.

The rankings within your recruiting classes matter.

You can’t improve one without the other. And so far, it seems Notre Dame is on pace to greatly improve both.

So a win over a team like UNLV or Central Michigan is going to be the difference for the playoffs? Chances are there are decision making results much higher up on the schedules of the teams being looked at. Has the very bottom of two teams' schedules ever been used to pick a final playoff team? Not that I'm aware of.

Nobody thinks twice when Georgia beat SW Missouri State Southern A&M 72-7.

Whether we beat Tennessee State or Bowling Green for win 11 isn't going to be the factor on whether we get in if we're 11-1.

The only thing that goes away with this is the FCS/FBS vanity but I think this will be VERY attractive for recruits if we start an HBCU national TV rotational game. This is incredibly forward thinking lol.
