At least more people might die now so there’s always that. Feel bad for the kids and people who don’t really wanna die from a preventable disease, but hey, peanuts am I right?
Probably a decent % for a while but it will go way down as people get more comfortable with it. People still have a thing with flying and Covid (not sure why when they go to packed bars, I guess it was how it was transmitted globally).
Not the same at all. I personally couldn’t care less about wearing a mask on a plane. Or even a grocery store. But I don’t work there. Even if 60% of employees were happy enough to wear a mask, that’s still 40% who don’t want to wear one. Given what we’ve seen in other industries, I expect most staff will jettison theirs shortly. At some point this has be weighed up against the overall benefits. The most convincing argument on masks comes on day to day public transport imo. There’s no justification for peeling the mask off and munching on food as people do on planes. Staff are mostly segregated from customers so can choose to wear one if they want. During winter flu season and if a new variant comes around, I expect it will be simply good manners to wear one. But theatrical wearing of masks (which planes really are at this point) for longer than necessary actually undermines longer term population wearing of them.
Less than 10% of people masked up by my unofficial count this morning through Cincinnati and O’Hare. I’d imagine that number will not increase when I get to Houston
Wife has Covid. Tested positive on Sunday with an at-home test. She's pretty sick. Throat sounds like hell when she talks. She was Vaxxed and boosted. I'm still negative though.
It was surreal flying across the country last night. I started in Columbia, SC with a 7:30 pm departure. Everything was "Covid normal" with masks in the CAE airport and on my short connecting flight to Atlanta. However, when I started walking around the ATL Airport it was clear something had changed. The thing that really caught my attention was that every crew member that I started seeing around the airport was not wearing a mask. My first thought to google if the Atlanta airport had different rules but then saw the news that it was a national change. My Atlanta-Los Angeles flight had a 100% unmasked crew and we got this announcement from the pilot "Those masks you are all carrying...you don't need those anymore unless you want to. We are operating under the you do you policy now."
Long term covid health issues I wanna see you voting history, vaccine status, and pictures of you in a mask before I express an ounce of sympathy. By all mean, live free
2022: conservative white breakfast diners just want to make decisions for themselves! 2032: these poor conservative white breakfast diners have longterm respiratory issues from contacting covid, how should the government help them?
I’m glad the policy is over simply because my sister is an FA and has had to put up with some incredibly rude anti maskers on flights. The worst of it was two weeks ago when she ultimately had to have a passenger arrested after repeated refusal to adhere to rules and verbally assaulting her. Locked himself in the bathroom during landing and came out screaming that he pissed all over the lavatory. Shit sucks. People like that should be banned permanently by the FAA from all domestic air travel. Banned from a single airline isn’t enough. Flying is a privilege.
Yeah the pilots sit up front in a protected box away from people. I may cough in their direction today.
This one seems so onerous and dumb to keep in place given that it's been impossible to keep this shit from spreading between countries as opposed to actual masking that would clearly tamp down spread in the airport and planes.
Biden Admin and US federal government are generally slow to things. The US kept specific countries banned from there whilst allowing in others (with vastly inferior vaccination rates) for months beyond it was in anyway useful. The provision of antigen tests was a mess. Jeffrey Zients is stealing a living imo.
My buddy is a pilot. Says they’re all a bunch of insane right wing chuds. Fuck these people are garbage. Imagine having such little adversity at any point in ur life that you see a mask mandate to protect people as “oppression”. These mother fuckers wouldn’t last a few hours as a minority in America. Pathetic stuff
For whatever reason I didn't picture pilots as chuds. Maybe because it requires actual long-term training to do their job and it's a job that doesn't give you the power to beat up and shoot people of color.
It requires a ton of money and time to become a pilot. Who are the kind of people that have the money and time to do that? Rich people or military people. When you think of it like that you quickly get it
And considering where all the company HQs are, wouldn't a disproportionate amount of employees be from chud areas (GA for Delta, TX for SW and AA, etc.)?
Well-off white dudes and those with military flight training are the only people with the means to become pilots.
How terrifying would that be if a former military turned passenger pilot had a flashback to their time in the service and did a barrel roll.
Flying San Diego to Cleveland. 5% masked. I’ll admit.. I was walking on the plane thinking I wasn’t going to wear a mask but the 3 people I heard coughing/sniffling has me masked up. Boosted and had COVID in January so I’m “super immune” right now but fuck that, I don’t want to get a cold/flu if I can avoid it.
when it comes to the online discourse this is true …no middle ground w blue checks . If I was flying tomorrow I would wear one on the plane but probably slip it off in parts of the Airport . Slavitt that used to be part of the Biden administration having a meltdown and seems to want the admin to fight this which seems not to be the best idea if you were weeks away from letting expire (unless that rumor was a lie)
people need to be less online or at least if they are actually engage with opinion polling and things to not just create binaries in their heads
Slavitt and guys like that are just upset that this Judge from Florida was able to make this call over the Biden administration. The mandate was going to probably end on May 3rd and a lot of guys like Slavitt were ok with it. Here is what Bob Wachter had to say about it a week ago:
muddying the politics of this is actually good for biden and they might make a token lawsuit but they're happy to move on imo
I think ATL airport was about 50/50 this morning and my flight to LGA was about 70/30 for masks / unmasked.
