But Slavitt fixating on the judge and trying to tie it to Trump is so out of touch w the average person on this issue where there are enough Dems that actually agree w the optional ruling at this point
The thing that confuses me about the mask discussion (e.g. the replies to Silver) is that omicron has essentially been spreading uncontrollably throughout the world the past 4-5 months. Somehow removing the mask requirement on planes and public transit is the straw that breaks the camel’s back and will spread covid across the country, as if this hasn’t been happening already (especially given that most people have been wearing low quality masks that may or may not even have even been worn properly).
The issue is that the main institutional body that can actually help us when needed just got neutered. Koch brothers win again
So there are apparently 80 sublineages of omicron now Its both kinda good and bad news. Good that it seems to represent a bottleneck evolutionarily speaking since it out-competed everything else and is a clear vaccine target, bad in that there's still a bunch of wiggle room to evolve stably while still being so infectious. Hopefully all the non-omicron lineages are effectively gone now
I’ve seen some far too popular LinkedIn (lol) posts from business road warriors happy they don’t need a mask anymore. I hate flying 100X more than I did three years ago and it’s not because of a fucking mask. I like being at home a lot more.
There’s nothing he says there that isn’t incorrect. Early on there was a logic for masks on in planes, in fact there was a decent argument for grounding flights for a couple of weeks. There was also a strong argument for them during the pre mass vaccination phase. Now it’s just another setting but one where some think it’s appropriate for there to be mask theatre to make themselves feel better. A small and concise area where they can still eat and drink before going off elsewhere not to wear a masks. In reality there are workers there who do not want to wear them for the rest of their lives.
Flight yesterday was 50% masked from Miami to Philly. The unmasked were predominantly white men or white men traveling with their families. Of course, pilot made celebratory announcement before take off, as if this was necessary.
This is bullshit. Failure to comply with the mask mandate isn’t a one off occurrence. These idiots will again act up. Especially now they know there’s no real consequence.
Whether or not you believe air travel contributes to disease spread or masks work to mitigate that risk is irrelevant to why his post is stupid. The number of hours the “average American” spends on a plane has nothing at all to do with the discussion.
no one at work wears a mask anymore except for one person....the weird old guy who wears a trump hat every day we do live in a society
this is garbage unless by circumstance they mean they were completely passive and refused and were removed or left on their own accord without incident.
Feeling a lot more groggy today and have some sinuses. Not sure if it's Covid. But I may have spoken too soon. Wife was really bad yesterday morning - deep cough and sinuses really bad. But by the time I got home she seemed a lot better.
There should be a zero tolerance rule for acting out on a fucking airplane. Are you fucking kidding me? The FAA should step in and just ban these people from air travel.
normal me: that's not a thing and would be illegal and someone would sue based on ADA rights this timeline me: probably could happen bc it would pass the state govt and would get a trump appointed judge to ok it
surprised they are doing this ..figured they would just quietly use the off ramp given by the idiot judge
Probably useful to get her bullshit overturned even if the goal is to let the mandate expire. Although it will likely have expired by the time it gets finally determined so the appeals court may just say it doesn't matter and not rule on it.
Who would have thought that airlines, along with nearly every work place, would struggle with staffing shortages during the biggest covid surges in the UK to date? I’m sure passengers wearing (largely) cloth and surgical masks when not eating or drinking would have prevented it all. Of course Feigl-Ding quotes make up half the article.
Cloth and surgical masks would help. And you don’t eat or drink during taxiing which is exactly when the issue is the worst.
