Who cooked food or created clothes to wear during their “vacation?” Peasants definitely had less free time considering it took a lot longer to do things to stay alive than what it takes today.

Homes today are bigger so it makes sense that bigger homes cost more. You are also ignoring interest rates. People in the market now are priced out of some homes at 5%+ vs sub 4%. I think for profit housing is great, we just to build more houses. Massive shortage of houses built since 2010.
