I enjoyed the Trolloc battle. Very Helms Deep vibes. They are meeting my expectations in terms of the channeling/magic. regarding plot lines, well, this is just all another turn of the wheel compared to the books. I didn’t think it was bad, but the Lews scene was bad.
After thinking on it, Moiraine may be tied off and not stilled since the bond is still there. Loial is probably why they chase after Fain now, and Ishamael used Rand to break the first seal on the floor there. And the Seanchan really hated that little girl. The battle with the king and queen was a nice parallel to the fall of Manetheran.
I read all of the chapter synopsis's from the book this past week and I was surprised that my memory failed me as much as it did. The show was actually closer to what happened than I recalled with the exception of them removing Caemlyn and making those scenes take place in Tar Valon. That said, last night was just a hot mess. The many plot points minimum that are left open that were not in the books just felt unnecessary and sloppy... -Loial stabbed -Matt (we know why) -Morraine not being able to access the power -Nynaeve almost being fried and then fixed by Egwene (may have actually made sense the other way around if they really felt they needed to do this) -Fain with the Horn -No Green Man -Only one Forsaken and not explaining who it was in any way -I can't even keep track of what the differences in outcomes were for the Fal Daran I get trying to make it a cliff hanger, but I think they made to many open plotlines which makes you not care about anything all that much. It reminds me of the finale of Yellowstone last year, especially since we know how all of these things will work out. The only thing I will say in it's favor is I often felt that the big bad battles in the books left a lot to be desired and left me wanting much more than they delivered. From that perspective they hit the mark. I am hoping they learn a lot from season one and come back strong like the Witcher has. Oh, and Seanchan, wtf? Why end with that? I know they are Book II, but it just felt random given the mess they left of the story. They did look pretty cool though.
We get Lews Therin, who is called the Dragon Reborn vs the Dragon. No mention of the War of Shadow or a sense of a last ditch effort in a losing war, more of I guess we'll go do this for the heck of it where they knew that saidin would be corrupted. No indication of a war or near destruction.
Just finished the finale. Not a fan. Figured my wife who has not read the books would hate it but she liked it so maybe it’s me. Idk.
Can't really get over the Lews Therin flashback. So was there not the War of the Shadow? No decade long struggle where the Light has a last ditch effort to seal away the dark one because they are close to annihilation? Everything looked just fine and dandy and that Lews decided to seal away the dark one just one fine sunny morning kind of randomly
About 200 pages left in Great Hunt. This is way better than I remember when I tried reading this twelve years ago. I really hope I can finish this time
Finished book two fuck it’s so good I take back the shit I said about these books in the past, but if I get to Fires of Heaven again and can’t finish it, I’ll talk shit again.
40 pages left in the Dragon Reborn. The way everything comes together in Tear is just so fucking good. Feel like an idiot for not liking these books the first time I tried reading but 20 year old me was way different than 32 year old me and I jumped right into these books after reading ASOIAF for the first time and expected a similar vibe I’m hooked
They are good but far, far from perfect and have a very different style than a lot of “modern” fantasy. I wanted to quit after the 1000th time a braid was tugged.
I'm assuming some of the changes will be for the better down the line to cut things out I guess. I figured there would need no green man due to money. I think they're just trying to expedite Egwene and Nyneave getting and understanding their powers. The Lews Therin thing people have already brought up was weak. And I wasn't impressed with Ishamael. He didn't feel threatening. Fain was more menacing them him The Fal Dara stuff is all over the place due to the Actor leaving and COVID. I'm really interested in what they're gonna do with all the forsaken. And which ones they'll combine or totally leave out.
I think I've posted in here before but I think we get Lanfear, Moghedien, Graendal, and Semirhage with Semirhage having Mesaana's plot and story. Ishamael obviously, Asmodean, Sammael who will be kind of combined with Rahvin, and Demandred. I think they showed 8 statues in that forsaken teaser in episode 5 so if they stick to 8 those are the ones I'm going with. Maybe throw in a Belal or Aginor for the the Stone of Tear/Callandor story in book 3
I always liked how Jordan slipped our history and mythology into Wheel of Time. Between the space race, cold war, Odin, and King Arthur. Always adds to it.
230 pages into Fires of Heaven. I’m officially past the point where I lost interest when I tried reading this the first time. I’m pretty into it still too so I think I might be able to do it bois
The slog isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I think it was considered that at the time because people were having to wait for the next book. When everything is out and accessible it's not nearly what it is made out to be
Really? Book 6 is pretty consistently rated higher than book 5. It's close but for the most part book 6 usually gets the nod
Brandon Sanderson confirmed that Covid caused massive chaos on filming and a lot of changes had to be made in filming on his recent pod.
it was just a discussion ok the WOT Reddit I saw recently. I’m 200 pages in to book 6 with no issues so far. In general however, I am growing tired of Nynaeve POV chapters. The more this story goes on the more annoying and less likable she becomes imo.
Nynaeves story lines in those books definitely aren't the best. They do get better along with her imo. Nothing is worse than the traveling circus arc
700 pages in The new Amyrlin has been raised. Be interesting to see if the issue of Alanna bonding Rand against his wishes comes up and if she has to punish Alanna she would also have to punish Elayne for what happened with Birgitte? Idk just thinking out loud
Starting to think Rand is the only one planning for Tarmon Gaidon and everyone else is just playing politics I’m annoyed
I watched the first season with no prior knowledge of the series, and I just finished book one. Shocker, I liked the book much better than the show. If you squint hard enough you can call the first half of the book an adaptation; not sure what they were doing with the second half of the book. Annoying that there was no Green Man or Elias, and that Tom wasn’t as prominent in the show as he was in the book. Rand was much better in the book. Matt was just as annoying, but Nynaeve was the worst. Spent most of the book wanting Moraine to tell her to shut up and stop asking stupid questions. Hard to commit to 14 books but I’m on to The Shadow Rising.
500 into Crown of Swords Mat constantly wondering to himself about who is negatively influencing Olver’s behavior is fuckin killing me
I have a wild ass theory about the forsaken but I don’t wanna look dumb :/ but I think I’m right anyway about to start book 8 bois
Spoiler the dark one can bring back the forsaken who do not get killed via Balefire and he has swapped the genders of Asmodean and Lanfear as punishment. Asmodean in a woman’s body freed moghedien from the little tower and Lanfear in a man’s body is who helped Rand face Sammael in Shadar Logoth
Just finished book 9. Holy shit that was cool also did not see that reveal about Dashiva coming at all
About 70 pages into Crossroads of Twilight. Can someone give me a breakdown on where Loial went and what he did after Dumai’s Wells? Unless it’s revealed in this book because I can seem to remember anything about it at all
Have hit a wall halfway through Book 10 picking it up for the first time in a month to see if I can get through it
Just got to the part in book 11 where Spoiler Thom gives Mat the letter from Moiriane Oh shit oh shit
