I 100% think I could have thrown that ball to home and I've never played baseball at any level ever. It wouldn't be pretty but it would have been better than whatever horseshit Ozuna did.
Really can't overstate how bad that Olson fifth inning one-pitch AB was. First time we really had pressure on Alcantara and just let him off the hook.
Negative WAR this year, and for his entire career. He will make a halfway decent defensive play, and Chip will talk about how good of a defender he is in RF. But even the defensive metrics are not a fan of Demeritte.
Sad stat for the day: Olson is LEADING the qualified regulars with a .242 average and he’s hitting .183 in May.
I have a strong suspicion that might be an AA influenced lineup. Why? Check out this Snit quote from 2 days ago.
It was actually me. I’ve had the PA guy playing Shake It Up by the Cars on a loop during batting practice every day for weeks trying to subliminally reach Snit. And it looks like it worked.
Interested to see how we end up playing the last position player spot when we have to reduce pitchers. Feels like it will either be Tromp or Waters that comes up.
Well, Waters is the only non-injured position player on the 40 man not already in the majors. We literally only have 15 position players on our 40 man: our current active roster, Waters, Rosario, and Piña. We’d have to make room on the 40 man for anyone else. And that means dfa’ing a pitching prospect and hoping he clears waivers or moving Eddie to the 60 day to open a spot.
I think there’s a few realistic options; 1. You give the spot to Tromp and pull him up as the second backup so Contreras can play more 2. You give it to one of the vet infielders so Arcia isn’t your only option. All of the starters have been iron men so far, but they’ll need some breaks eventually. 3. Do one of those + send down TD and bring Waters up.
I think Tromp makes more sense than Waters. It would allow us to DH Contreras most nights while having Tromp as a backup for TdA, and Waters isn’t doing spectacularly and probably should be given more time to see AAA pitching. With Ronnie getting healthier and likely to play in RF every game sans on certain artificial turfs I think that gives us our most potent offense until Rosario returns.
I wonder if Gosselin can play emergency catcher. That’s probably the best option if so. Would allow TdA and Contreras to still alternate DH and C as needed to stay fresh, while giving us a competent third emergency catcher/backup infielder.
Imagine being a former Gold Glove center fielder and being so bad in the field within five years of that award you’re getting sent to the dugout in favor of a rookie who has only ever caught Hope a hypothetical player that is happening to has a good therapist so the people around him don’t have to deal with him expressing that frustration in a healthy way
It honestly is incredible that a major league outfielder can have an arm that bad. You would think his pride would make him at least get it to serviceable.
He had shoulder surgery. You can't always just "get it to serviceable." Obviously, he shouldn't have played a full season with it injured before having surgery, but it's not as simple as just willing his arm strength back.
He used to have a fucking hose for a left fielder: If he still threw like that, he'd probably play for the Dodgers or Yankees.
Well, I take back what I said…had a teammate in HS who basically threw his elbow out over a summer trying to increase his velo in a decidedly unscientific way. It worked for a couple of years, but he lost more and more later on and basically can’t throw anymore.
