I saw Hayley Holmes on the credits and then was really disappointed that she showed dressed up like a hobbit.
That was one of the most satisfying single episodes I've seen of anything in a long while. The final move is a master stroke. It provides a level of guilt for Jimmy and Kim that they were in no way prepared for and it's basically the keystone from which their life together (if that survives the immediate moment) never recovers from. Lalo is the hardest mf on the face of the earth and just makes the weaknesses of similarly conceived "villains" (arrogant variously flashy brutes let's say) in ahem other shows glaringly obvious. This is a psychopath of the highest order who has every reason to expect the kind of pleasures that his general appearance and suave demeanor would suggest. But he knows he's in heightened danger and he's committed to the mission of getting Fring so he's IT'ing it up in the fucking sewer. Fucking brilliant. A++ I'm also glad that the "scheme" is now over, with episodes to spare. I can only watch so much "getting away with shit" for so long before my suspension of disbelief crumbles.
Jimmy and Walt are the same character We’re introduced to the character as someone who is trying to play it straight even though they have the background to be successful in their particular area of criminal enterprise. A slight by a perceived dear friend/family member drives them towards a life of crime even though they have close ties to the legitimate side of the law that complicates their illicit activities. They have an unlikely partner in crime that sometimes drives them deeper into the game and sometimes seemingly makes them want to get out of it or do things they shouldn’t for the benefit of the partner. The relationship in both cases is complicated and up and down. There are several legacy players in the game that overshadow them that they have to overcome to flourish. In Walt’s case it’s Tuco to truly break bad and be Heisenberg and get deep into the game and then Fring to become a true kingpin. For Jimmy, it’s Chuck to finally flourish into Saul and I think it will be Howard’s demise to truly accept he’s a criminal and take over the black book and be a crook (because at this point he’s still got the pretense that he wants to be taken seriously like Chuck and Howard, just look at his office decor). And then they both end up blowing a shitload of money at a vacuum shop!
I’m gonna be that guy without more context, I don’t like Lalo being the one to take out Howard. Kinda feels like the writers wanted him out of the way after the sandpiper plot succeeded, so they had lalo do it. But I’m sure this will be a colt take soon.
He didn't have that intent. He just wanted to a) confirm that he was being listened to (though he was damn sure) and b) see what he could glean from how they adjust. Remember team Gus doesn't know he's already on to the laundromat and they have no real way of knowing where he is planning to strike from the contents of the phone call.
I stopped at a Love's on vacation a couple weeks ago when we were in the middle of nowhere. I didn't use the shower or laundry facilities though. For a truck stop I was pretty impressed.
I'm really surprised how many of you claim to have never been in truck stops. Short of Bucees, they are easily the most consistent nice & clean gas stations around. Loves, flying J, TA have all been that way as long as I can remember
If I'm on the highway and need to stop for a piss...9 times out of 10 I'm going to one of the truck stops you listed. Way cleaner/ton more stalls than normal gas station.
Stopping for a dump though, you gotta pull the hotel trick. Always stop at a Holiday Inn Express, La Quinta, etc… and use the lobby bathroom. Spotless.
People on Twitter claiming to not know showers existing at certain “gas stations” is weird. Especially when they’re advertised on billboards pretty frequently.
I thought maybe Lalo was back at the truck stop from bag man and was going to strong arm the clerk into handing over video. Then he’d see Mike and Jimmy together and Bolsa getting gas there the day before or something to connect all those dots.
Great episode. I became more sympathetic toward him but glad their long con of Howard is over. I will be interested in how they handle getting him out of the apartment. Too bad Kim didn't tell Jimmy that Lalo was still alive or else they might not have even been home when he showed up. There was zero doubt it was Lalo when the candle flickered. Sucks we have to wait a few weeks for the homestretch.
I didn’t realize until I rewatched but Howard’s head hits the coffee table on the way down to kinda mirror the way Chuck fell and hit his head at the printer shop
I’ve said BCS is better for a while. This episode has to erase any remaining doubt about which show is better, right?
One detail that may have slipped by me - is/was there an equipment access tunnel to the lab that has been shown?
i dont think so. this show likes to play with you, so id say us seeing it makes it a lot less likely that happens.
Absolutely a better show than BB, and has been for years. While I hate seeing what they’ve done to who I thought Kim was, I also absolutely love what they’ve done to who I thought Kim was. That’s impressive writing.
Yes, before Gus hid the gun. I’m assuming the tunnel was from the warehouse where the Germans were staying to the laundry mat. Mike said something like no one’s getting in through the concrete and amount of dirt between the two.
So there’s only one way in and one way out. Shootout is happening down there. Lalo ain’t coming out. His body will be in the concrete.
i think they are way different shows. (Depending on the ending) i like BCS more, but i have no problem with people picking BB. BCS is just a deeper show imo.
501 where Mike sent everyone back to Germany is when he said it was sealed. There’s a whole lot of work left at this point. And we know from BB that Gale set that lab up later with large equipment that 100% wasn’t coming down the washing machine ladder. The German crew was shuttled in a van between the two locations.
There can be differences on which is preferred, but the bolded is why it’s definitely the better show. I mean, Kim’s mom is a better written and acted female character than basically every female character in BB.
I agree and as i said i think its the better show. But BB is still so good that i’m okay with people prefering that. Id argue that a lot of people who’ll end up picking BB doesnt have the attention span to really get into BCS but maybe thats just me being a little arrogant.
I’ve seen a lot of people say on Twitter that the first season moved too slow for them and they stopped watching, so I think you’re dead on.
I rarely like actually laugh when i’m watching stuff on my own, but my god was the swapped photos fucking hilarious, i was straight up in tears. Then 30 minutes later Lalo shoots him in the god damn face. What a ride.
I think this is recency bias because I rewatched BB during the pandemic and forgot how fucking good it is
I love both shows but I think people are forgetting how good Breaking Bad was. There were a handful of Breaking Bad episodes that had similar crazy endings(Jesse killing Gale, Walt running over the drug dealers, Todd killing the dirt bike kid, etc).
Man, you have to feel so bad for Howard. Imagine if this show was set from his perspective. Jimmy would be an all time prick of a villain. I won’t go as far as to say I don’t like the Jimmy and Kim characters at this point, but man they are horrible human beings.
