2 of those contracts still need to be dealt with iirc. Lo Celso should be easy --- he played well in Spain. Tanguy tho... he's not good.
Much of the team’s shortcomings have been on the mental side of things. They’ve been mentally weak for years. It seems like that’s starting to change. Shore up a few positions and get some depth and they can compete for some real silverware.
I sort of get the feeling Tanguy going to be another loan at best. I wonder if he’s realized yet that it’s his a “him” problem?
Dier misses out on the England national team again. The defenders on the team: Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Coady (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), James Justin (Leicester City) Harry Maguire (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle United), Kyle Walker (Manchester City), Ben White (Arsenal)
I am struggling to figure out what this means in terms of what can be spent now. Is that cash flow that needs to be used entirely in 2022/23 in order to convert or the lifetime value of what is spent? If it is the latter it doesn't sound like that big of a deal. Clubs blow more than that in one transfer cycle on fees.
so if for example we finance the transfers like we usually do over a term, then we would theoretically be able to spend quite a lot. I just don't see Levy doing that though. I think we bring in two big time transfers and some squad players. If that happens I will be thrilled though.
Only way we’re competing next year is if we get a RWB, LCB, MF and a backup striker. This team needs depth in the worst way possible, too.
Keeping PSG away from Conte is the biggest priority. Everything else is much easier to accomplish if you can continue to employ the best manager in the sport. We're going to see quite a bit of business this summer, I would think. Reguilon is due £28m this summer and I think he should probably be moved to avoid that. So we might need a LWB as much as a RWB. Regardless, I'd love to see them sign someone world class on one side or another. Doherty, Sessegnon, and Emerson Royal all improved markedly after the winter window (helped in no small part to the arrival of Kulu and Bentacur); but seems like someone on the next level would really make Spurs a dangerous attacking team. Need depth everywhere else, particularly if/when players like Bergwijn, Winks, and one (or both) of the backup CBs leaves.
I know everyone says we need a LCB, and while I don't disagree that it would be great to get one, we have to stop insulting Davies. He was phenomenal and he is actually pretty good going forward also.
Outgoings: Winks, Rodon, Gollini, Lucas, Reggie, GLC, Ndombele, Clarke, CCV, maybe Royal Incomings: whoever Conte wants
Upgrading any of the starting CB positions seems pretty low priority to me. Honestly, Dier might be the one I'd look at first.
in: bastoni eriksen kostic terrier mcginn +more that i cant think of right now out: reguilon winks lo celso ndombele clarke lucas (which makes me sad)
Question: where would Eriksen even play in Conte's system? (Ditto, I might add, if Lo Celso were to stick around) Bergwijn and/or Gil head out before Lucas, I would think.
Eriksen played as a LCM in a 3-5-2 under Conte at Inter. I’d like to keep Berg, but understand his desire for first team minutes. If we can get 22-25 for him, it would be wise to take it. Gil will almost certainly go on another loan. Valencia are keen to bring him back, but I’d like to see if we could find a PL loan for him first.
Re Eriksen, this would make him a substitution type player at Spurs, because I can't see them taking one of the front 3 off to play a 5 man midfield. Not sure Eriksen would want that if he can go be 1st team somewhere else.
I think we need somebody to compete with him because at worst we need depth there. I really enjoyed his play this season.
He was typically used as a sub at Inter. From all reports, he prefers to stay in London and would love another UCL run. I think it simply comes down to loyalty to Brentford and his familiarity with the Danish contingent there, or giving it one last go with Spurs. Can’t fault him either way.
Think Gil got banged up down the stretch there. Doesn’t bode well for him ever holding up in the PL imo.
we definitely need a backup. I am also assuming we sell Sanchez because he will demand some transfer money in the market and we probably have other preferences. I am assuming we bring in two CB's. I still wonder if we may sell Royal as we might be able to recoup some of his transfer fee now that he showed better form and Conte may prefer others. I think Serge and Royal are fullbacks and not wing backs and they should have value.
Hey look who is a free agent. (I didn't even realize he was still playing) https://www.transfermarkt.us/steven-caulker/profil/spieler/121280
We finished the season so light on players, but we have quite a few who were injured or on loan. Lot's to consider here in terms of possible outgoings (orange). I think there is just too much work to do in terms of player movement that there will be no way to achieve the type of transformation we expect. That is 15 players who could move and I would argue we have to move like half of them even if they are just loans. There really isn't a position that I don't think we couldn't look to bring in even a backup. Green is homegrown in the EPL and Sessegnon, Skipp, and Clarke finally count as they are now 22, but Kulusevski counts against us next year because he will be 22. Sarr wouldn't count and I don't think Gil would either if they play for us since they are under 22. Goalkeeper Lloris, Gollini, Austin RWB Doherty, Royal RCB Romero, Sanchez, CCV CB Dier, Tanganga LCB Davies, Rodon LWB Sessegnon, Reguilon CM Hojbjerg, Skipp, Ndombele CM Bentancur ,Winks, Sarr, Lo Celso RW Kulusevski, Moura, Clarke ST Kane, Scarlett, Parrot LW Son, Bergwijn, Gil Doherty, Davies, Rodon don't count as homegrown for UCL. For this reason we almost have to make some moves for homegrown players this offseason, so that explains why Forester is so high on the list. I would love to see us go for Kalvin Phillips or Declan Rice but they seem a pipedream with all the competition. James Ward Prowse makes a lot of sense too. I wonder if Lamptey's value has gone down and he could be a sleeper LWB homegrown option. Djed Spence is also an option.
Out: Berg (dont like it but he wants to leave and cant blame him), Winks, Regi, Sanchez possibly, Lo celso, Tanguy (likely loan but maybe PSG will buy), ROdon (loan, still think he has tons of talent), Japhet (loan), Gil (loan), Emerson if opportunity presents itself In: Forster (already signed i think), Sarr back from loan, Spence, Left footed CB (bastoni, inacio, salisu, ndicka). If we sell Regi then someone like david raum. Winger, backup striker. I think there some more FAs to sign now too. I think ward prowse is the dream signing IMO. He would be SO expensive but hard to get someone who provides better service. Lucas says he wants to stay until his contract is out then head back to brazil until he retires. Hard to get a better squad depth guy with better attitude.
This is interesting. I think this means that Gil is almost certainly going to be loaned out again at a minimum. We don't even have room to roster any new international's in UCL with Gil, Lo Celso, and Ndombole gone. Currently having 12 non-homegrown players in their 25-man Premier League squad following their January transfer business, Spurs' numbers will increase significantly should they qualify for Europe. As explained above, Doherty, Rodon and Davies are seen as non-homegrown players by UEFA, with Kulusevski another to be added to this list come the start of 2022/23. As things stand, Tottenham will have 16 of the 17 spots taken up before any transfer business takes place this summer. If Ndombele, Lo Celso, Gil and Sarr do indeed remain at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and are part of Conte's plans for next campaign, the number will increase to 20 and leave Paratici and the head coach with a decision to make over who misses out. Doherty, Rodon and Davies' status as non-homegrown players in Europe really does make things tricky for the club in Europe when it comes to naming a squad. For this reason, Paratici has a lot of things to factor in before looking to improve Tottenham's squad for 2022/23.
So maybe 6 month loan for Rodon until they figure out if we make it to the knockout rounds of UEFA? Edit: Ndombele, GLC, Gil, and Sarr aren't all going to be at THFC. I would be shocked if more than 1 was in the squad come the end of the summer window
By my count we basically have 10 non-homegrown and 4 homegrown expected players for UCL, if I take liberties with Moura staying and adding Forster. That means we need to choose 4 from the other homegrown list or add in the difference from elsewhere. It also means we need to sell or loan at least 2 from the non-homegrown list and then 1 more for every non-homegrown we bring in assuming that we get our 8 homegrown. Paratici is going to have a huge job this summer. Non-Homegrown Expected Lloris Doherty Romero Dier Davies Hojbjerg Bentancur Kulusevski Son Moura Other Non-Homegrown: Gollini Royal Sanchez Rodon Reguilon Bergwijn Ndombole Gil Lo Celso Homegrown Expected Kane Sessegnon Skipp Forester Other Homegrown: Tanganga Winks CCV Austin Omole White Don't Count (U21): Clarke Sarr Parrott Devine Scarlett
I made it a little easier to see in my last post, but yes for sure we have to get rid of a lot of players, but that is always easier said than done unless we give them away like we did with Dele.
When you say aren’t going to be at THFC, does that include loans? Because I’d be shocked if we sold Gil and Sarr this window. GLC should be an easy sell given how well he performed for Villarreal, but Tanguy is going to be an albatross around our neck.
Do you think we can sell Ndombole for 20M? I do, and I think if we get anywhere near that we should take it. Transfermarket has him at 38.5M US dollars
All of those HG rules are such a pain, and that they are more restrictive than even the domestic league, iirc from FM days.
Some valuations (in Pounds) from transfermarket. I don't agree with all of these, but this helps to see what we have that can be sold. Ndombole seems like the only salary that is an issue. Ndombole 31.5M (reportedly on 200K per week) Sanchez 27M (reportedly on 65K per week) Reguilon 25.2M (reportedly on 48K per week) Royal 22.5M (reportedly on 48K per week) Gil 22.5M (reportedly on 65K per week) Lo Celso 19.8M (reportedly on 70K per week) Sarr 18M Bergwijn 16.2M (reportedly on 70K per week) Winks 15.3M (reportedly on 50K per week) Tanganga 13.5M (reportedly on 23K per week) Gollini 9M (reportedly on 25K per week) Rodon 7.2M (reportedly on 10K per week) Clarke 4.5M (reportedly on 30K per week) Parrott 3.24M (reportedly on 7K per week) CCV 2.7M (reportedly on 20K per week)
Probably not, no. He was atrocious at Lyon and is making 200+/week. We’d have to eat a large portion of his salary to even make it to the negotiating table.
How many more years does Ndombele have on his deal? 200k / week? lololololol edit: on the books until 2025 according to transfermarkt. Woof.
