Question for Rafael Theodore Cruz: What's worse, politicizing the murdering of elementary children or monetizing off of it?
maybe Zelensky will say 'we've got Russia on lock, here's your 40b back to take care of your own shit'
I'd wish the families of the deceased would sue the depts involved out of existence but then I remembered that it'll just be the taxpayers who'll foot the bill while all the fuckface pussy cops that caused this will continue with their lives
Firearms have been illegal here for 100 years and we put in a unarmed police for at the same time. Outside of paramilitary actions up north (where unfortunately some of those disused weapons found their way to criminality), there is no history of significant gun violence here. There has never been a mass shooting by some incel or when an attempt to do so. Australia followed here with a rule that if you want to own a firearm, you must keep it locked up outside of your “sport”, you will only get a licence after significant vetting and all ammo is audited on visits. The U.K. had a similar about turn on firearms in the late 1990s after the Dunblane school massacre but it was never as stark as the Australia example you mentioned. Australia had a similar culture of rural guns that the US had. John Howard was a conservative politician who stood up against a lobby and many of his own base- where are the brave politicians in the GOP?
You’re kind of right but any R politicans that did 180 their gun stances regardless of reason, would get pushed out of the party and replaced by someone who does fall in line. So yeah there is no hope.
One is to assume that if he were to actually engage it would be more embarrassing than whatever this is, which is pretty embarrassing in and of itself.
Never forget these motherfuckers were quick to make changes because people were outside SCOTUS judges homes peacefully protesting.
If the dems don’t use every avenue at their disposal - -Exec action, force votes that will fail, public shame and humiliation, to force Rs to publicly own their position on guns, this country is beyond lost (they won’t)
You can’t shame the shameless. They hold grotesque positions all around and it does nothing. Most of them just voted against emergency action to help with the baby formula shortage. Shame and humiliation goes no where with them.
Just dropped my 5 year old off at his last day of school and the image of him walking in under a flag at half mast is now burned in my head. Fuck all this shit.
Sad sad stuff. Not much was done after Sandy Hook and sadly not much will be done after this. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see it. Greatest country on earth my ass. My kids are 11,7 and 6…. They have done active shooter drills at their schools. Just that alone isn’t fucking normal. Then shit like this happens. Just fucking terrible and heart breaking for those kids and families.
Also fuck anyone who says, “let’s have security forces at our schools, that will solve it”. All so they can keep their weekend toy that goes bang and pew pew because it’s cool to them. Fuck those people. Our kids shouldn’t have to be escorted to class by armed fucking guards
I can’t say what I want to say, but man if “certain” people started getting gunned down in the streets this country would get better almost immediately.
Dropped the kid at school this morning, big smile on her face, other kids in baseball stuff for the field trip later today...My brain simply can not fathom the the horror these kids went through yesterday. We talk about the kids who died as we should but god damn the damage to the survivors... Guns have to go, it's the only way.
Want to feel worse? Once an active shooter scenario is announced, teachers are trained not to allow students in their room who aren't already in it. If a student happens to be in the hallways, they would essentially be left out to fend for themselves or die.
Good morning where this WP headline makes it clear that 10 years should be considered a long gone between horrors like this
I got in trouble bc a kid was using the bathroom during a lockdown drill and I opened my door and hurried him in my room. The admin was nice about it and said “you made the right decision in that situation but sadly there are people who would think it’s the wrong one. Crazy job we have isn’t it coach Kilmer.”
I can't imagine how hard that must be if your child is a victim. All the stuff you had planned for the summer like vacations and beyond. You would be constantly in that place of despair. Uggh
During one of our active shooter drills this year, 5th grade was outside at recess. Well a handful of them panicked once it was announced and ran back to their classroom. By some miracle the door was unlocked (it's district policy for classroom doors to remain locked at all times), so they were able to get inside and then barricaded themselves in the classroom closet. The teacher realized she was missing 4 kids and panicked so Admin went to go check her classroom. When they went in and tried to open the closet, the students started screaming and swinging whatever weapon they could find at the hand coming through the door. Of course they quickly realized that is was the AP and it was a drill, but for those moments it was very real to them. The students were then publicly recognized and commended by the Sheriff's office later that day for their perfect demonstration of "run, hid, fight", the story was retold, and laughs were had by all because we live in the "this is fine, everything is fine" meme.
We had a horrifyingly frank discussion about this and another tidbit over summer PD a couple of years ago: During lockdown drills, it is advisable to spread the children throughout the room; if a shooter gets into one of the classrooms, the children being in one concentrated area will make it easier for him to sweep the room in one spray of gunfire. This sentence was uttered in a middle school, in the United States of America, in the 21st century.
It needs to be said that by these ass holes stating that schools need to be hard targets, you're implying that the school itself exists naturally as a target and we should accept that. That is fucking infuriating. When I stood armed watch in the Navy we always emphasized being a hard target and for people to think that an elementary school and a sentry watch should be on the same force level is asinine.
I got 12 hours off of twitter for telling a guy (some FL rep) he would fumble his gun and shoot himself if the government came for his guns. I guessing saying we would all be better off made it bad.
and not that you’ll ever get over it but every time there is another school shooting (every other week), it’ll be like opening up that wound once again
This is part of me having to gunsplain every dipshit that says “What about Chicago?” It’s actually the answer. Illinois has very harsh gun laws, but you can drive 45 seconds to Indiana, an hour or so to Iowa or Wisconsin depending on where you are in Chicago and purchase guns in those states and sell them illegally. Other than the obvious issue of population, that’s why other Illinois cities aren’t wrought by shooting deaths. If all states had gun laws as strict as Illinois this wouldn’t be happening to the same extent it is. I rarely get replies from this.
