Is this true? How, if you are an armed officer, do you just allow an armed person to walk into a school? It also makes a total mockery of this RWNJ talking point of how none of this would happen if we would just have armed guards at every school.
Just found the energy to start following this. Have we gotten to the boomer christians talking about how this is all part of God's plan yet?
You absolutely know this would be the first part to suffer. ‘Holy cow, it’s so hard to find this many people to fill these positions. Oh wow it cost way more than we thought!’ We all know WHO will take these positions for the most part and where we are going to have the most problems. Not to mention, it won’t stop anything. They will then blame it on mental health again while they eliminated the mental health part of the hiring process.
So no to masking and lockdowns during covid, yes to keeping your kids inside by themselves with no social interaction because otherwise they'll get shot by 18 year old incels with AR-15s. Got it. Makes perfect sense.
There is one proven way to fucking make this drastically drop and it’s the only one that isn’t an option for these ghouls.
Anyone is allowed to open (or concealed) carry in Texas. Probably wasn't breaking the law until he went inside. And even then, who fucking knows what Texas's law says about armed adults in schools.
Federal law does not allow guns within 1,000 feet of a school. There's no question of someone doing it legally.
I need Beto showing up with Goucho glasses on to Abbotts next event to do the same thing. And then do it again. And again. And again.
Of course he is, but he’s going to make them sign a statement that says that they will do their best to try not to kill unarmed POC.
you might eliminate some problems but a bunch of kids being subjected to the education levels of crazy fucking people who will tell them the south should have won, that Chicago has the highest murder rate in the world, math isn’t real, books are bad!! That’s also a recipe stew for the crazy militia groups that we are seeing pop-up.
Now that they're infiltrating school boards, I say better their kids than mine. But I get your point.
This conversation should start and end with gun control, but not enough people are talking about the virulent misogyny, domestic abuse, and toxic masculinity that is present in most mass shootings. An overwhelming majority of these shootings start with or include a domestic abuse component involving a partner or relative.
Another issue, that has probably been said here or somewhere, if you armed the teachers it will ABSOLUTELY lead to 2 things. 1) a mass exodus of teachers in the field of which a state or this country has never seen (and one that is already an issue since paying teachers is already something we don’t give a shit about) 2) Those that replace the teachers are going to be a lot of people who believe a teacher should have a gun. If a teacher thinks that I don’t even need to explain the other shit they probably believe nor does any person with 1/2 a brain want THAT person teaching children.
well, then, presuming the security guard knew the law (big presumption), the most likely scenario here is they were hoping the person carrying the firearms would go shoot up somewhere else and/or they were scared shitless. I'm not excusing the security guard(s?) actions, I'm just saying the larger issue is that an 18 year old was able to buy 2 high powered rifles and hundreds of rounds of ammo no questions asked, and we're expecting schools to stop them with $12 / hour security contractors.
(All of which is perfect for the GOP because it’s another way to control the message in another theater)
I'm not disagreeing with you. That's not just the larger issue. It is THE issue. And like I said, if true, this just rubbishes the GOP idea that armed guards would do anything to solve this. I just don't understand how the armed guard doesn't open fire in that situation, if and big if, that tweet is accurate.
Not to mention that nothing good will come from it. You had trained and armed professionals who signed up for this line of work and decided to sit it out in the car until reinforcements came.
Crazy to me that people think some guy with a handgun making 16 an hour is going to save their children’s lives from a deranged kid with body armor and a semi automatic rifle
They are already completely divorced from reality. No point trying to figure out how they rationalize it.
I could be misremembering but I feel like our Texas Dems don’t like Beto very much. Don’t mean that as a dig at them or commentary on Beto one way or another. Just think I remember them not being enthusiastic about him and maybe one of them will see this and correct me or expound on it.
that is me 100% but if he is going to grow a backbone and not just raise money and robocall and text then i can be persuaded to change my opinion today went a long way towards that
I don't think most people would put their life on the line. It's why we should do everything we can to keep it from happening
Around 24:20 is when the director of Texas Department of Public Safety starts explaining the events prior to and including the shooter going to the school. At 26:30 is when he says that the shooter was confronted by a CISD Resource officer where shots were not exchanged, and then the officer FOLLOWED HIM into the building. I’ve never been a fan of Uvalde PD, but goodness, how disappointing.
to further expand if we can teach Dems that standing up to republicans means more money, maybe we can get a stew going
this. expecting someone making $15/$20 an hour working as a security guard/school district cop to act like a marine isn't realistic.
Beto got some hate on this board during the Dem primary because there were multiple better options at the time but he's far better than the vast majority of establishment Dems including Biden
Coincidentally the Harris county jail beto mentioned as the no. 1 provider of mental health care in the state is about four blocks from where the nra dorks are gonna jerk off to some guns this weekend. I’m gonna go to the protest across the street from the convention Friday and probably get mowed down by an assault weapon. Ahh well, it was a good run.
Beto isn’t going to beat a chud in Texas but hopefully he sets an example of having a fucking set of nuts to other dems
I’m willing to give about any younger democrat (at least relative to the established ones) a chance because I just need some hope.
