What are the rules of engagement if a NATO country goes on the offensive?

Poland rolling into ukraine would be fucking wild. Surely Russia would have to do a general mobilization at that point. Not good

Wasn’t the entry into Afghanistan a NATO operation? Feel like Canada went because USA declared it a NATO op, even tho we had nothing to do with it.

I’m sure they’ve already kicked this idea around and everyone in NATO has convinced them not to do it

Not sure Poland has much of an offensive military at this point, they are heavily built to defend

Hell yeah. If the Euros really are chickening out, we need to. We need to realize that the French and Germans don't care about Eastern Europe other than how it can be exploited by them.

Didn't they get their money from highly unethical/illegal ways? The fact we're seizing their money tells me that they aren't good people. Why would we give it back at all? They shouldn't have any money to pay us back with. Fuck em.

But the article said if governments want to keep that money they’ll end up in court fighting to get it. This isn’t a perfect solution but at least the money is going to help rebuild Ukraine.

su-57 is their best air superiority fighter but they have like 5

su-35 is their best that they have any meaningful number of. Came out in 2008.

unrelated to Ukraine but this is kind of the defacto military thread right now

TIL that f-35 and other stealth aircraft will usually fly with luneburg lens radar reflectors on them. This reflects radar very well making the aircraft visible on radar. Why would we do this?

    1) You need to be seen on radar most of the time for air traffic control etc...
    2) In areas where enemy (russia/china) radars are active we want to conceal the true stealth capabilities of the aircrafts. This is mostly true in the middle east where russia has s-400 systems and we don't want to give them experience seeing f-35s and f-22s on their radars.

    Here is an article: https://theaviationgeekclub.com/these-devices-make-stealth-aircraft-visible-on-radar-screens/

So we send the long range rocket systems to counter the TOS…. What does Russia use next?

don't ask those stupid ass questions. He's a dying man. He's going to escalate either way. This war sucks, but at a certain point, more people will die from us delaying than committing these weapons.

I have no issue with this vs our interventions in the Middle East/Afghanistan. Russia is a broken society. It's like our school shooting broke but at every level.

    Easy fella. That’s not rhetorical.

I was asking what are the next military weapons that get used by Russia to counter. If they can’t use TOS because of the long range rockets, they’ll need to escalate to something else to get through Donbas or other trench/dug in Ukraine positions.

I think the TOS is a short range weapon (relatively). It’s range is around 3 km. Apparently it’s range is just a bit shorter than the Javelin which can be effective at up to 4 km.

I think that’s right? Which is why we’re giving Ukraine the rocket system with 300 mile(I might be wrong on the distance) range to target/counter TOS? I thought maybe one of the military dudes might know what Russia would use next if they couldn’t target anything from greater than 300 miles away.

I’m not an expert but I’m not sure how much you can do about something 300 miles away that’s also mobile especially w/o air superiority. I think you have to do your best to shelter from these and it’ll slow you down / lead to more attrition which I’m sure is the goal.

First one malfunctioned and didn’t fire. Matador was the one that hit it fired by the cameraman.

ammunition cooked off when it drove into the woods. Also looks like some additional hits around that time.
