So damn annoyed today. Played Ty Webb ’s favorite course today. Spoiler I booked as a solo onto another threesome at 315. Clubhouse asks why I’m playing 18 and the rest of the group is playing nine, did the group mess up or did I. Well I’m a single I have no idea, but I’m playing 18. Go check in with the starter early. 2 some goes off. I’m waiting figuring maybe he’ll just let me go early. Then a three some rolls up and they’re ahead. Then the starter radios to the clubhouse, my “group” never shows up. Starter tells me I’m getting moved to another front 9 and get paired up with a 330. Instead of you know letting me tee off as a solo and catch up to the threesome. He tells me that it’s course policy to not let singles play. Which is completely bullshit because I play single there all the god damn time, it’s why I play there frankly. So I get over to the other front 9 and they are backed up. 2 foursomes in front and I get paired with a 2some of new golfers(nitro/tour edge complete sets…and then brand new Taylormade drivers ). It wasn’t the worst but they didn’t have course etiquette and anytime I’d say something they’d put their hands up like I was attacking them. Took us 2 hours and 20 minutes for the front nine. Back nine I just head straight to ten to tee off. The group I was with rolls up and says hey go ahead and play without us, to which I informed them already planned too. Back 9 took 50 minutes.
This was the most fun weekend I've had in a long time. Would love to stay for the 4th day of stroke play tomorrow but had to get back The ability to get up close to so many future PGA Tour dudes makes big time college tournaments such a blast Gordon Sargent is a dude. The freshman from Mountain Brook is leading through the first three days of stroke play Spoiler
Ha. I was so pissed. Best I had been hitting the ball in a long time. Had a few unlucky bounces. Should have been a couple under honestly.
Didn’t realize the Santa Barbara city championship was this weekend, and I accidentally booked right behind them for a twilight round yesterday. 7 hours. Santa Barbara Golf Club is one of the most punishing short courses I’ve ever played. The greens are pure evil, or at least they were set up that way yesterday
Why are we even talking about it then? Just have him hook you up so you don't have to always complain about the trappings of public golf.
Pasatiempo is so unbelievably good, better than any of the public tracks on the Monterey Peninsula. Conditions are so pure and the shots on/around the greens so challenging yet fun. Would love a few more rounds there to get to keep trying short game shots
What the hell is the golf channel doing showing these idiots blab about Annika Sorenstam instead of showing college golf? Such a waste of a great event.
Either let you play as a non-member or even better...hook you up with a discounted membership (which may still be possible there regardless of you knowing him)
Traveling to Banff, CA in July and booked a tee time for Stewart Creek Country Club. Was planning on just renting clubs, but was told they only have regular shafts while I play X-Stiff. How big of deal might this be for me? I’m a 12 handicap so I do have some volatility to my game.
It isn’t a big deal. I play x stiff as well and rented clubs with regular flex like a month ago for a round and I adjusted pretty quickly.
I insist on traveling with my clubs because I’m a douche and don’t want to have to rent. I also don’t pay for bags though so ymmv
Yeah, this is what I’m trying to convince myself as well. One round where the wife will be riding with. Just playing for the sites/experience.
Going on a golf trip this week with my boys and I’m not bringing my clubs. They’re so old, I’m better off with whatever I can rent.
Just enjoy and have fun. If it was a tourney or competitive with friends it would be different. You’ll be fine. And as a plus, if your game is off you can blame it on the clubs.
Looks like Auburn just jumped TTU for the 8th spot. Still some holes left on both sides and it's looking brutal out there. OU and Vandy going at each other for the top seed out of stroke play
A few buddies played it Saturday and said it was in fantastic shape. Also the first time they’ve caught it firm. Should be fun. Enjoy
He grew up at my club. Absolute animal on the course. Driver speed is high 120s when he goes after it.
Hermitage has 36 holes and probably the nicest amenities of any of the public courses. Gaylord Springs is also a fun course. Greystone is about 45 mins west of town and is my favorite public course in the greater Nashville area. Not great amenities but just a really fun course. They usually host a bunch of the state am tournaments. There are also a few city muni courses that are all decent. Harpeth Hills is the best of those.
Out of curiosity.. what would he shoot regularly on the home course? Cousin is a rising senior and hoping to get him into a decent sized school.
Gordon is a freak. Almost won the Western Open at 18. I would approximate his hcp at +6 or +7. I fully expect him to be on the pga tour in 18 mo. College is all about SJGT or AJGA scores.
