If that new challenge ends up being a move to Bayern, the level of challenge might be the easiest in the sport. It would be cool if he went to Leipzig with Lewandowski and Haaland leaving their clubs.
That was the media’s words.. not mine. I’ll miss him. He was twice the player Salah was after both came back from AFCON.
Bayern already has 3 good but not as good versions of Mané. I would like to see just one match of Bayern in a 3-4-3 with Mane, Sane, Gnabry and Coman all playing in the wide positions.
Realistically, how many clubs can afford Mané that would actually present a new challenge? How many of them are looking to sign him? Seems like I’ve only seen Bayern talk, not sure what he’s supposed to do if he wants to try somewhere besides staying LFC
Outside of the usual suspects, maybe Inter? But that’s if the Lukaku and Hakimi money wasn’t used for other means which is probably the case.
Buying a player that doesn’t play in the same position where Spurs seem to be in great shape already would have made a bit more sense.
theres definitely a world in which a 33 year old winger moving to the Prem for the first time in his career doesn’t work out
Son is an attacker, LW, can play ST Perišić has been playing as a “LM” in Inter’s 352 so more of a wing back which is what his role is expected to be at Spurs
Absolutely but I think more the fact that they somehow got a free transfer of his caliber not on massive wages has most agreeing that it’s worth the risk
We signed him primarily as a wing back playing behind Son. That was where he played mostly at Inter. He can also play at least 4 other positions though.
Agreed. Plus he has also played for Conte, so you would think eh knows what he is getting. His end product at the position and work ethic are huge. Any transfer can fail, but seems a good bit of business.
A 33 year old wingback going from Serie A to the EPL doesn’t seem like a great idea to me. I’m due for a terrible take in a transfer thread so maybe it’ll be a shrewd move.
EPL is a more open and pacey league. I do think it could be a tough transition early on. But he may have been the 2nd best player on Inter this season. I think he should do well if he can adjust to the pace of the game in the EPL.
if he’s not going to let me shitpost with impunity I’m not sure I can carry on in a literal football transfer thread
Fastest top speed in Series A last year at his age, above average in distance covered, and had great production at LWB - 8 goals and 7 assists. You also can't forget that Conte coached him and hand picked him, so I feel pretty good that if he was worried about age or transition he would have looked elsewhere instead of prioritizing him.
Perisic is damn good, even at 33. Spurs left wing is gonna have so much attacking output. I guess his defending will be the question mark.
That would be really good value for a player of his experience on a bosman. what’s the deal with the reported £180k/wk? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...Echobox&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1653914108
Didn’t Laporta win the Barca election on the promise of keeping Messi even though he knew that it wasn’t going to be possible?
So they want to sign away part of their income for 40 years to do this? It is like they are planning to eventually go bust.
No player swaps for Raphinha please. Still have the nightmare of Firpo this last year. Make them pay the full payment now.
Grain of salt, but the word out is those are Arsenal sources trying to put a damper on the deal. All Spurs sources agree on 98M. Either way, if Levy feels we can afford him and add 6 to the fold then I trust Levy when it comes to finances. Plus there was no fee.
Has there been any report of a signing on fee/signing bonus? Typically free transfers just end up larger wages and the signing on fee to the player instead of a club. Depending on the amount of those, still probably worth the risk but people are skeptical just due to the history of “free” transfers
Haven't heard any. All close Spurs sources reporting the 98K. Like I said, even if it was 180K, I wouldn't care because that is the equivalent of 8M transfer fee difference, which is nothing for his type of talent. At 98K he is still the 5th highest earner at the club and that includes (shakes head) Ndombole at 200K. Most players of his caliber at the club are in the 70-100 range. https://www.spotrac.com/epl/tottenham-hotspur-fc/payroll/
180k would be fully acceptable given no transfer fee and it’s for two years. Doesn’t fuck our wage structure. He’s going to have weekly 1-on-1 sessions with Sessegnon to cultivate the latter’s talent. Nothing but positives here.
the larger number probably factors in the signing on fee over the length of the deal. it's similar to the way some outlets are reporting Nketiah's wages.
Perisic on a Bosman is definitely worth a punt. Wanted him several years back, when we were rumored to be interested
By all accounts Perisic is in excellent physical shape and was clocked running a faster on field speed than any of our players hit last season. And we just got a 150m hot cash injection - not sure you heard. There is literally no risk with this deal.
Where is the risk? He is on low wages. He is a winner. Previous experience under the manager and was one of the most productive wingbacks in Europe this season. Struggling to see how 98k per week over 2 years is going to ruin us.
It is complete stupidity to claim any deal is literally no risk. No matter how little risk you believe it to be, there’s always some risk. Also, it’s already been discussed that there’s skepticism over the alleged wages. The most reasonable explanation is that the £98k is net, hence the discrepancy in numbers reported.
If any of you say you wouldn't take Perisic on those terms you are lying - even if it is 180k. Given how the 2 signings from January went I'm willing to trust our current recruiting strategy bringing in players Conte already has worked with. The dude is an absolute baller and shows up on the biggest stages.
he’s a low risk squad player, I’m not sure why we’ve spent so much time on it. surely we’ve missed some crucial Bayern rumors while this has been the topic of the day.
