I want to buy my father in law a bottle for Father's day. He used to drink exclusively crown royal and diet coke but he's switched to Woodford Reserve. Is there something similar to Woodford but better I could buy him? I know nothing of this stuff.
Yeah, there are plenty of things similar but better than Woodford. But if he's mixing it with Diet Coke there really isn't a reason to buy him anything nicer. I'd just buy him a massive bottle of the Woodford and call it a day.
Just get him a bottle of Double Oaked Woodford. It's a lot sweeter and most in this thread don't prefer it, but for someone that is used to mixing it with coke he'd probably love it.
It'sAlwaysSunnyInAthens no bullshit, trying to help here, so don't read any of this as dismissive or smarmy... Woodford is a very broad appeal bourbon, there's a reason Delta serves it. I think it's a bit on the sweeter side, but otherwise, it's straight down the middle with classic bourbon notes. Hence, it's easy to spread outwards from there. Since you mentioned he's started drinking it neat, I like Keef 's suggestion of a Woodford Double Oaked; it'll be familiar yet something different. Also, since he's starting to drink neat, Basil Hayden's could be another good option. It's low proof and sweet, so very much something he could sip. (It's also from a different distillery, Jim Beam.) The last suggestion is Four Roses Single Barrel: my favorite entry point into single barrels and, again, a different distillery. All three of those bottles are sitting on the shelf at any liquor store.
Yes, like the time I went to my mom's house and I forgot I left my Double Eagle Very Rare. It was such a pleasant surprise.
Personally think Four Roses Single Barrel might have too much rye spice for a Woodford drinker. JMO obviously.
There’s an earthy note to Wild Turkey products (Russel Reserve.) I love their stuff, but some are out off by what’s referred to as “funk,” it’s kind of a musty/earthy note. You can’t go wrong with anything that’s been suggested. Safest options would be Basil Hayden’s and Woodford Double Oaked.
Hell of a haul there. The gold and straight from the barrel were on the list of possible buys for the trip but I couldn't pull the trigger on secondary.
And I was on record as saying Buffalo Trace soap was the jumping the shark moment… No idea what’s in these New stuff picks, but that there is some kind of >$500 valuation for the pair. Colored wax and doll hats are expensive, apparently.
Do the kentucky_dawg special, tasting bar at Evergreen Liquors and then the cuban place across the street
Ended up at Proof on Main. Great bison burger and a good bourbon selection with reasonable prices. Started with a Four Roses 2020 pick and now an Elijah Craig Private Barrel.
Realize it's probably too late but this is the move. Evergreen has an awesome selection to choose from and they aren't going to kill you on prices either. Restaurant across the street is fire too: https://www.labodeguitademima.com/
https://neatbottlebar.com/ Recommend this place if you want to check out vintage bourbon. Danielle is a wonderful person.
I’m squeezing every last draw out of this Padron 1926 maduro along with Morgan Wallen and MM cask strength 46 from.. DistantFactor maybe?
I really like this MM46 cask, we got distribution to GA about 6mo after you shipped this one. It’s still hard to find, but conceptually it’s available. Also, I’m team Padron. I like Oliva Series V, but nothing fucks like a Padron maduro.
I used to have a humidor with about 50 sticks in it but gave it all away a 5 years ago since my smoking went down to about 2-3 times a year. When I do smoke it’s always a Padron at this point.
