I'm biased since I'm from around there, but this is a really good rec. You could rent a car and do a day trip to the Laurel Highlands or Western MD/WV to enjoy the mountains/mountain lakes. Go the right place, and it's Canadian climate. Damn, I miss home.
If I'm envious of anyone in the world's job, it's Mark Wiens. He's kind of a weenie, but this man is 36 and worth over $6.5M. All he does is make videos of himself traveling the world eating all of the street food. Props to him.
I'd check with the the rental car place. If it's at the airport a lot times they will wait for the last flight if they know you have a reservation. The hours may say 12:00 but if your plane lands at 12:30 someone will be there.
Man I think I'm about to get fucked w/ these flight prices. Two weeks ago checked prices to Costa Rica in December so I can go back to Nicaragua. Well flights were only like $800. Secured the house through the owners and was going to book flights in a few weeks once I had enough reward points. Check yesterday and flights are now $1300. For 3 people, that's gonna be a dent. Also, this is a fucking sub 4 hour flight. This is some fucking bullshit. IDK if I should wait it out or what. Tons of availability on the flight.
Was supposed to land at 2:07pm, now we land at 8:22pm. Advertised closing time is 5pm. Guess we will see how this goes.
Yes, I believe so. Would be Delta ATL->LIR Other options are to fly into Managua, but not many airlines have picked back up service.
Was planning using amex plat points. So you've had success booking a flight then getting a credit from Delta if they dropped the price?
Yup many times during covid I mean you can literally just cancel and rebook if they still aren't charging fees
Is it an off airport rental place? Because that seems super early for a major airport. If it is off site you may be out of luck. But if the airline changed your flight by more than 3 hours you can cancel and they owe you a full refund. If you can find a route combination that gets you there earlier they might be more inclined to change to it because of that, but make sure you know the route and can be specific with them. In my dealings with airlines in situations like this if you do the work of knowing what you want things go much smoother.
I was able to do this and get flight credits for the difference using Chase's portal. Not sure if it will translate over to Amex but I'd imagine it would since its a Delta policy
Going to stay in SE Asia for a bit after hiking Everest, have about 2 weeks to spend before Thanksgiving. Think I'm going to do a week in Chiang Mai and a week in Hanoi. Or two weeks in Hanoi. Throwin it back
got one delta plat companion pass used to head to NY in December. christmas in NYC really is the best.
Have a co-worker who has done NYC at Christmas and is now wanting to do London at Christmas and I'm trying to explain it's not really the same. Been trying to push him to mainland Europe and places with all the Christmas markets
Interesting. We were wanting to do London next Christmas and do things like the Christmas Carol tour, etc. What other countries would you recommend?
I'll be at the Christkindlmarkt at the Rathaus in Wien Last night convinced the wife that the two of us needed to have our own little getaway to Maui in September. To be fair, she didn't need much convincing
I would check it out, I love London xmas. But I also am in NYC for Xmas every year and the flight costs are putrid rn.
Planning on hitting Venice for a few days after Christmas, hopefully low-tourist season. Anybody have any recommendations on what areas to stay in or what to do there
Staying near the Campo Santa Margherta square in the university area should be empty that time of year. You can do everything on foot from there.
Heading to Boston next Saturday for work. I have Saturday night and Sunday on my own and then some meetings on Monday and a conference the next few days. Conference is at the Encore, but I haven't booked anything for Sat - Mon. Any recs on what area to stay? Also, is there a Boston thread here?
I'll be in Louisville next week. Anyone have dinner recommendations? Looking for spots with a good bar selection and decent food. Going to Jeff Ruby's one night so need something more casual the rest of the time.
Hammerheads is a little outside of downtown, but it has really good food. http://louisvillehammerheads.com/
Taking the wife and kid somewhere in Ozark area this fall. Looking to book an airbnb in a good spot but I know nothing of the area. Any recommendations on what part of Ozarks to stay?
Germany for Christmas is definitely on the bucket list. Honestly if I was financially free tomorrow I’d spend September - New Years there for Octoberfest, soccer season, World Cup, and then Christmas. would be hard to top imo
Just go to Germany for a few months and don't tell your employer. Ask for forgiveness, not permission. Worked for me!
Is the hotel industry paying social media folks to shit on AirBNB more lately? I see a lot of it in my feeds. People who have 1 post/1 video and it's just randomly shitting on AirBNB without any specific comparisons. Probably a smart move.
Wife's return flight from NYC got canceled and moved a day later to Sunday. I assume Delta will not do much to help reimburse the $400 hotel. She's gonna hit them up on the text app today. Any tips? Flying is a disaster right now
I just got back from a trip that had one flight cancelled and two missed because of delays. Ultimately I was delivered to a different airport two hours away, and am currently driving to pick up the car at the original airport. But United paid for my hotel.
That might be a good idea. It's a quazi work event, I'm not sure which card she booked it on. Might be Delta Amex Plat
Was thinking of taking a spontaneous trip this weekend but holy shit at some the delays. Think I’ll sit this one out.
Never used Amex’s but Chase’s is great and super easy. Just keep receipts and submit. The few times I’ve used it have probably equaled all of my annual fees paid on Sapphire cards over the years if not exceeded.
