I’m not mad at Biden. The Republican Party is the party of religious zealots, white supremacy, and the wealthy. They don’t believe in democracy. They no longer act in good faith. The blame lies completely and totally with them.
lol yeah not the dems who haven’t done shit about anything the conservatives have done typical lib think
My wife and I, through her consulting business are going to be offering services to women in need of abortions. Here’s the text of the social media post she’s putting out to her network on LinkedIn: “Today I woke up to the news that the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade; eliminating access to safe, legal abortion throughout much of the country. Silver Branch Consulting is not a multi-million-dollar entity. I'm a small business, but I said these words to my husband this morning, "I'd rather go broke than know unwanted children are being born into the world." Starting today, I will do my part to help support my sisters (and those with XX "plumbing") in gaining access to safe, legal abortions. We have set a budget from our business revenue to help as many people affected by this onerous ruling as possible. Through this endeavour, Silver Branch is committed to: - making abortion arrangements - paying for travel expenses - providing lodging and meals to allow individuals to rest and recover for a few days until they are well enough to travel home I don't know if this will cover 2, 5 or 10 per year. Time will tell. I ask that if you or someone you know is in need, to call me and we'll figure it out together.” We are still obviously in a very preliminary stage, but I’m trying to amplify this as much as possible. I’ve found this community to be largely made up of good people and I’ve seen it come together for causes in ways that have inspired me. We aren’t asking for donations. But since our personal networks are largely in NY/NJ and CA, we could use your help in connecting with individuals living in states most affected by today’s ruling. If you know of someone who needs help, or would like to know how you could be a part of this (frankly we are so early in the process I don’t know what type of help we would need but if you have a background in organizing, perhaps you could make some suggestions) please DM me. I won’t be checking the board much today as I have some work deadlines, so if you do respond to this, please be patient. I know a lot of us are pissed off, angry and possibly feeling dejected. I know I was earlier this morning. But reading the posts in this thread helped me realize I’m not alone, and that has strengthened my resolve. Thank you guys for that.
Gay marriage is next and then anti-sodomy laws. It will be illegal to be gay in a bunch of states within 5 years.
Yeah, for sure, but Biden is ill equipped to deal with this moment. He beat Trump, and that was crucial, but pretty much* any of the other democratic candidates in 2020 were better options wrt crisis management / leadership. *I say pretty much, because where the fuck is his Vice President? Jesus Christ, we have a woman Veep... has she even tweeted today?
At the same time, him and his Democratic ilk a) don’t seem to recognize this and/or b) think it’ll be corrected via the regular process. The Republicans are the assholes but the inability to recognize the problem is a huge indictment of the Democrats.
The argument that it's the legislature's role to pass laws protecting unalienable human rights when that is the express purpose of the Constitution (which SCOTUS enforces) is just so hilariously ignorant and wrong. It's a textbook example of a stupid asshole who doesn't know shit but thinks he's the smartest guy in the room spouting off word salad like he knows what the fuck he's talking about. All to rationalize his loyalty to a destructive and regressive political party. It's fucking pathetic
You aren't though. You voted for Donald Trump - twice - who *Said* he was going to nominate judges that would overturn Roe. He did exactly that.
The Ds in general don't appear to stand for anything except 'I deserve to remain in Congress for the duration of my life, and then my heirs will take my seat.'
Most of Europe has a "little restrictiveness," somewhere between 16-24 weeks feels right. Anything less I wouldn't be cool with and would likely tip me to Abrams. I don't think continuing this convo under the circumstances is going to produce much though, so going to bow out and resume here in a day or two
I’m very rarely the guy that gets mad at Dems over awful shit Republicans do but what in the actual fuck is wrong with these people. They had MONTHS to form a cohesive strategy to deal with this and it’s just absolute nonsense from 90% of the caucus.
Gay marriage gets overturned and they’ll do an Irish jig. Read a sonnet when being gay is illegal. If our democrats weren’t a bunch of goddamn feckless theater nerds we’d be so much better off. Why can’t we have some leftists that go hard like those people in South America?
The ironic part of this entire thing is there will be a guy who loses his wife or loved one to ectopic pregnancy and that guy is going to be fucking irate, and rightfully so because of some shitty law. That same dude is going to be able to easily purchase a firearm during his grief and there will be people that will die thanks to his rage. NONE of this will even remotely move the needle.
might be time to consider rules that prevent the country from being run exclusively by folks so old that the private sector wouldn't hire them to even a mid-level role for fear they'd retire or expire.
I have 3 daughters and am actively going to begin searching for a way to be an ExPat. I have an old neighbor who moved to Algarve Portugal when Trump got elected, anyone know anything on Portugal?
what in the blue fuck are you talking about? In May 2019, Kemp signed into law a highly controversial bill that would prohibit abortions after a heartbeat can be detected in a fetus, which is usually when a woman is six weeks pregnant; the legislation was one of the country's strictest anti-abortion laws.
