might be a small number but there is definitely part of that Trumper coalition that is blindsided by Roe and the threat to Gay Marriage, they didn’t care to ally w the evangelical right bc in their mind those issues were settled. some of them probably still trying to rationalize that this isn’t the result of Trump
I’ve recently moved to CDMX, it’s a badass city and I’m really enjoying it. You guys are clowns, the US has it very good compared to 95% of the countries on earth
i never understand this mindset, especially for communities targeted by the growing reactionary right here especially from someone who literally left the country
I left for a cool project, not because I convinced myself the US was a 3rd world country with zero individual rights.
As much as I love Cali we got our issues and the biggest issue is water. Not trying to stop people from moving here but just understand we got issues. But I love San Jose. There are some great but expensive places to live in the south bay.
No I don’t think so explicitly. But I’ve counted 10+ comments from people wanting to abandon the country. My attempt was to educate these people that we have it very good. Binary thinking is really weird.
i think acknowledging the US is backsliding on human rights with a political system that shows little room for remedy in the short term and has always been very poor on things like healthcare are valid reasons to rethink where you want to raise a family finger wagging that without addressing the substance of the complaints is silly
I guess my issue is this. None of you will do anything about this issue other than shitposting in a dying message board forum. Take a step back and think about that
you didn't criticize anything substantively, the US is probably the worst country in healthcare by gdp in the world, we've backslid dramatically on abortion access that is going to directly lead to increased mortality, we're having increased gun deaths that are MASSIVE outliers worldwide. there's plenty of very reasonable reasons to contemplate moving to a blue state (that are dramatically better on just the 3 above things than red state equivalents) or god forbid outside the country. its being a smarmy douchebag to post the shit you did as some rich guy working in mexico city
i understand YOU think that because it makes you feel better, but it's not remotely the case for many many people here but again, that defense mechanism to believe it is intoxicating so I get why you do
So I guess you’re saying bc you’ve typecasted me into a certain group, my opinion has no basis. Thanks GOD
I hate the “you’re lucky to live in the U.S. so don’t you dare complain” crap. Just because we’re “lucky” doesn’t mean we shouldn’t strive to make things better. It’s just lazy, cynical crap that people say so they don’t have to acknowledge issues.
"You're lucky to live in the US" was a Boomers thing we all got told while they fucked everything up. Gen X was too indifferent when young and too old to push back now. GOOD LUCK MILLENIALS. GEN Z, YOU'RE ON DECK.
As a young Gen X my generation is pretty useless, just white noise between the boomers and millennials.
Those saying Alberta/Calgary have not been there in the last couple of years. They can compete with any chud challenge
theres a massive difference from being around chuds and having a government controlled by them and the downstream policies therein
On same page as milkman Someone seriously suggested moving to Ecuador from the US. We’re living a matrix of crises and who knows what the other side will look like but the competing hyperbole (only about moving abroad) is a bit much ITT. I do believe there will be a TON more domestic sorting; people are not going to ever go back to working in the office like they used to which frees people up, and ppl have their preferences. I do a lot of domestic travel for work (6/8 last weeks) and by far the biggest cultural fissures I can sense are rural/urban.
My initial thought was Spokane/Eastern Washington or just about anywhere sub ~1 hour along the Oregon coast.
hilarious NothingIsOT liked this. Forgot he is a (not a Trump voter!) Republican. Missed opportunity to drag him in the SCOTUS thread yesterday.
Man this thread really took a turn from where it was then I just wanted to come on down to Clevelandtown everyone.
No. He spent his entire life, like you, supporting Republicans. The Party that had a stated objective of overturning Roe; which happened yesterday.
Moved to southwest Oregon (Coos Bay) about 4 years ago from Little Rock. It is either heavenly summer perfection with a high of 75 or it’s pouring rain from November to May. Have also lived in the central coast of CA and it is amazing too. Local political climate here is pretty dumb due to being rural but everything decided statewide rules thanks to our liberal population centers. Highly recommend, can’t imagine ever moving back to AR.
Since you are the smarmiest douchebag on the board you really ought to check a mirror lyrtch. @milkman for the most part most people are just venting. We live in Oklahoma currently and have a teen daughter. Additionally the wife is an MD at a very poor and rural hospital so this ruling effects us directly. I’ve lived in quite a few nations and spent time in many more, and yes none are perfect and most have a significantly lower quality of life than we do here. That doesn’t mean we can’t do better or that this ruling doesn’t make life worse here for women and provide less freedoms for everyone.
ofcourse when comparing to most of the Global South and especially northern Central America but is it really controversial to say all things equal and not considering family distance that quality of life and public safety/health might be better in Australia, Canada, Portugal, Spain , or the UK?
Of all the times to scold people about how good they have it. If nothing else, it’s completely tone deaf.
I can tell you as someone who lives 50/50 in the US, Midwest and Southern Europe, the EU is without a doubt a better quality of life but more expensive and that is something to watch as we all have seen in the media, electricity right now is absolutely out of hand in most of Europe. I can see myself moving 100% overseas as the divide is growing wider every day. My opinion only.
