any further detail on nico missing elite 11? i want to make sure it's not some family emergency thing before i make fun of him for being immature and unreliable
Apparently he was considered the top volleyball recruit in the country Volleyball was fun as hell in Team Sport high school class ngl.
I’ve followed recruiting for the exact same amount of time as everyone else on this board and “family emergency” is code for “bullshit” so feel free to make fun. If a grandmother is sick then it’s guaranteed to be complete and total fuckery.
It would be neat if Georgia just landed Wilson and let Ohio State have Downs Bowles, but unfortunately that doesn't seem likely.
Damn shame he wants to play competitive volleyball one last time and ride some roller coasters with his friends instead of going to the elite 11 and prove himself. Doesn’t have that dawg in him
lol just clicked on the "latest crystal ball" thingy while on the UM site https://247sports.com/college/michigan/Season/2023-Football/CurrentTargetPredictions/
this is the weirdest recruiting year for Michigan I've ever followed. There are a lot of good recruiters on staff. Is UM the only school that just doesn't do NIL stuff for recruits? I get that the Harbaugh stuff was bad, but it can't be THIS bad. It's just baffling.
They have one, but the presentation they give is based on when kids get on campus instead of paying them to get there. Pretty sure UM's compliance people have been against the collective model and A&M type stuff, and Harbaugh's been quoted a bunch of times in recent months saying "Michigan is a transformational experience, not a transactional experience".
We were doing that as well but I think we've done a hard pivot. There's still a pretty big emphasis on finding players on campus endorsement deals but I think we realized we can't sit on our hands if others are going to do otherwise
Got it. Tennessee fans are currently mad as hell that our AD, Danny White, has told UT’s coaches not to have direct contact with our collective. So the coaches have to use burner phones not provided by the university. I get that the NCAA has yet to hand down Tennessee’s punishment for self reporting infractions to get Pruitt fired. I just don’t think the NCAA has any power or use at this point.
Michigan is very good at claiming moral high ground in such instances while the world passes us by. We don't believe in such hard pivots.
Hunter Dickinson did an interview after the basketball season where he said UM's approach to NIL means they're not going to get good recruits in football or basketball. And as annoying as Dickinson is, that's coming from someone who has done very well for himself in that space and stayed another year because of how much he's getting from endorsement opportunities in college (and because he's not an NBA prospect).
We supposedly have 2 lambos on our parking lot, Stroud has a $150k+ suv, and a backup DT has a new Corvette; we have some idiot fans acting like NIL hurts us
Dickinson killed us in the NCAA tournament, along with us not making any threes. But Rick Barnes was wary of signing Julian Phillips because he was going to be making more money than the established players on our basketball team. So Barnes asked the senior leaders if they were cool with it before, our collective paid Phillips whatever it was that got him to pick Tennessee.
I feel confident with the approach OSU is taking as long as Alabama is taking a similar one tbh. It makes sense that we don't have to offer insane deals up front, when you get here you're gonna be taken care of but offering 7 figure deals to sign seems like a thing bad programs do and it's gonna bite them.
I think teams like Bama, OSU, Georgia, Clemson have the luxury that when one recruit is demanding some crazy money we still have options to replace them without having to replace them with a 3 star or something like that
It's not that we're not paying them but when a kid is demanding something crazy like 8 million we can pass and still recruit a replacement at a similar or closer level without having to put out that type of investment
